I can say that I've been to both the Japan location and this brand new location in Hawaii. Both are excellent but there is some differences. Some similarities are that the sushi chefs bring out fresh fish to display to customers and encourage them to order that item as they will work on that fish next. The quality and freshness is also similar. Customer service is top notch at both locations. This location however, is a true Kaiten where your order comes to you on a conveyor belt. It's very convenient since you order items in either Japanese or English on their tablets. You can order 4 items at a time. Also, with the currency exchange rate, it's much more favorable to dine in Japan at the moment. Aside from that, decor and ambiance is about the same.
I came on the Grand Opening day and was their very first customer in their first Kaiten outside of Japan! On top of their cold offerings, they also offer cooked dishes as well. The items include chicken karaage, octopus karaage, edamame, French fries, ramen and 2 types of chawanmushi. Since it was the Grand Opening, I was advised to order the hot items first as they take a little longer to prepare then order the cold items as they don't take as long. It was a great tip! The tablet had the same format as Japan so I was able to navigate it and order quickly while other guests were still figuring things out. Please make sure to show ID to the staff if you want alcoholic beverages enabled on your tablet. Must try restaurant and I look forward to...

Read moreA nice and clean place to have sushi. Great ambience and friendly staff.
Food was fresh and delicious. The options were fairly fine but the portion was kinda small, as other comments have pointed out.
Price wise, honestly, it shouldn’t be expensive like this. I used to eat a lot at the kaidenzushi restaurants in Japan. Most of them were down-to-earth and rarely hurt your wallet like this one did (I don’t really often eat sushi at a sit-down restaurant like this one in Hawai’i so I could be wrong): it was shocking to see that a O-toro tuna sushi costed $12! The bill came out to $74 for one person, which didn’t look that bad at this point. But the problem was the tipping. I never understood how come tipping is still expected at a kaiten sushi restaurant when the conveyor belt did all the delivery work while the staff only walked me to the seat and brought me a cup of tea? I literally placed all my orders using the tablet and served myself when the food was delivered by the conveyer belt, and the minimum amount of tips that showed on the cashier’s screen was 18%, I was like,...
