Wow! "The Old Termite Palace" I remember living in Honolulu, Hawaii from 1970-1977. My Late Father and I used to go see the Then Hawaii Islanders play at the old "Termite Palace" I remember walking through a residential neighborhood to get to the Main entrance. The old Wooden grand stands, The dull roar of the crowd, and the dim white hew of the stadium lights are unforgettable. At the time I was a Student at Aliamanu Intermediate school and we lived in Catlin Park Navy Housing where Baseball was a big thing to us in Honolulu, Hawaii. And The Hawaii Islanders was our Pacific Coast League Home Team, a AAA farm club to the San Diego Padres back then.
We saw several games there, in "The old Termite Palace" we had Popcorn and a big white paper cup of S&S Saimin! Those were the Days... We used to watch the old local TV Station show called Checkers & Pogo to try to win free tickets to the Islander games.
I remember going to see the very last Hawaii Islander game there. I remember feeling really sad that night walking back to our old 1969 Toyota Corolla in the Dark neighborhood. I remember asking my Dad why would they tear down this nice Stadium Dad? it is so perfect! My Dad replied, Son it is old and they call it the termite palace for a reason. and i recall seeing the termites flying around in the lights in the night sky during the games. When they tore down "The Old Termite Palace" my Dad used to drive us by there just to see the demolition. It was even a sadder moment to remember.
Then the Hawaii Islanders Starting playing in the New Aloha Stadium in Aiea. With greats like Joe Pepitone, Bill Almond, and others. We went to see the very first game there! The spectacular new Stadium Had metal everywhere, and bright Orange plastic molded seats, not the old wooden splintered bleachers. I was in awe to hear the organ playing and the crown cheering, and the towering Stadium lights way up above!
It was the end of an old era in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am proud to say that I was a witness to the end of the era of the Old "Termite Palace" in Honolulu, Hawaii. And a Witness to the New era of the new Aloha Stadium. It has been over 37 Years since we left Honolulu, for the Mainland, My Parents had just past away these last few Years, and I am returning them to the waters off of Honolulu, Hawaii This Month of May. I will stop by the old "Termite Palace" Memorial "Old Stadium Park" Plaque on South King St. to pay my respects to the old "Termite Palace". And to to thank her for the the great...

Read moreIt's a great little park. Mostly clean, spacious, and everytime I have been there, which is often, I have always been able to sit at one of the picnic tables. There's a public restroom that is not overly unkempt, and trash cans are well placed. The only annoyance worth mentioning would be that there does so seem to be an abundance of flies that do what you they do so well... Please don't let that be your takeaway from what other than that, is a very pleasant place to spend a bit of...
