I am incredibly picky about my tacos. I can’t help it, I was born and raised in New Mexico and I spent a large portion of my 56-year-old, adult life living in Southern California. It's not easy finding anything close to my grandma’s homemade tacos and SoCal has some of the best Mexican food on the planet (which obviously includes exceptionally good tacos). I also lived in Guatemala for a few years on a tourist visa so I did many “visa runs” across the Mexican border where I would spend 72 hours eating authentic Mexican tacos in Mexico; tacos do not get any more real than that. But, I have to say in all honesty, Vincent and Dean at The Pit Stop make insanely good tacos!

I recently started a new job on the 7th floor of a building at the corner of Kalakaua and Seaside and forgot my lunch and snacks at home. Forgetting to pack snacks can be a huge problem for me because I have type 2 diabetes and keeping my blood glucose levels under control isn’t always easy. When my levels are low, I can’t just go into an ABC and grab a banana and some trail mix without making my bood sugar skyrocket. Not knowing what else to do, I went down to see if I could find something substantial that I could eat quickly on my break.

I happen to see The Pit Stop truck and thought I would check it out. Once I approached it, I saw the sandwich board that read, “I SAID,TACO NOT TAKO,” and I instantly remembered the zany character who wears that board on Seaside Avenue with similar quirky slogans such as, “TACOS KILL COVID”. The playful energy around the truck encouraged me to give it a try so I ordered the steak taco and was blown away by how good and filling it was. It was a fat, 5”, corn tortilla taco stuffed with grilled, seasoned steak and topped with a little diced, raw onion and fresh cilantro. I only got one taco and it definitely hit the spot, but it was so delicious that I know I could have easily eaten two or three more.

I enjoyed the steak taco so much that I thought I would try The Pit Stop again. On my second visit, I tried the chicken taco and again it was amazing. That time however, Vincent offered to make lemonade for me. I explained to him that I couldn’t drink it because of having diabetes, so he said that he would make it with a lot less sugar. Again, it was a bull’s eye! The freshly squeezed, homestyle, lemonade revitalized and refreshed my whole body like magic. It was a perfect remedy for the relentless Honolulu sun. Granted, the lemonade was a tad bit tart, but that’s what lemonade usually is with a lot less sugar.

Three times a charm! Today I went to The Pit Stop and had the pulled pork taco and once again Vincent and Dean, the angels sent down to Hawaii from taco heaven, made a taco that I ate way too fast because it was way too good. I also got a lemonade because the last one I drank did a brilliant job of bait and hook. Kudos to you, Vincent, I’m hooked.

The menu is clearly more extensive than 3 tacos. They also proudly serve gourmet sliders along with other enticing stuff that I’m sure I will try sooner or later like the Kalua pork fries and an all beef Chicago dog. What makes The Pit Stop extra cool are Vincent and Dean. They are two fun guys who full-on display how much they care about the quality of the food they prepare.

If you’re a taco lover living in Honolulu and you haven’t gone to The Pit Stop, make the effort and go. You will not be disappointed. If you’re visiting Hononlulu, you definitely need to go because you may never get another chance to try some phenomenally good tacos. Unless you’re visiting from Mexico, then of course you’ll get another chance at good...

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pit Stop Tacos Burgers & Sliders: The Ultimate Roadside Culinary Experience

When you're cruising down the street and spot the unmistakable, colorfully decked-out Pit Stop Tacos Burgers & Sliders food truck, you know you're in for a treat that'll shift your mealtime expectations into high gear. This isn't your run-of-the-mill food truck; it's a culinary pit stop that'll refuel your hunger with some of the most delectable, mouth-watering eats in town.

As you walk up to the order window, the scent of perfectly seasoned meats grilling to juicy perfection is a siren call for your appetite. The menu, though concise, is a testament to doing a few things extraordinarily well, with each item showcased with pride and gusto.

Let's talk burgers – these beauties are a love affair between bun and patty. The hand-formed burgers are a symphony of taste and texture, with a sear that seals in all the juicy goodness you could ask for. The cheeseburger is a flawless execution of the classic, with cheese melting beautifully over the patty, while the more daring creations, like a blue cheese and caramelized onion burger, prove that Pit Stop isn't afraid to hit the flavor accelerator.

Tacos may not be "homemade" in the truck, but they're assembled with an eye for flavor combinations that'll make you forget you're eating street food. Fresh, zesty, and bursting with fillings like slow-cooked pulled pork or marinated chicken, each taco is a handheld delight, with toppings that add just the right amount of kick.

And don't pass up the sliders, which give you all the burger brilliance in a snackable size, making it easy to sample across the menu without overcommitting to just one choice.

While the fries might not be the main act, they're far from a sideshow. Golden, crispy, and sprinkled with just the right seasoning, they're the perfect supporting act to the truck's headliners. And if you're in the mood for something sweet, the milkshakes are as nostalgically satisfying as they come, with a richness that's pure decadence in a cup.

Sure, the setting might not be that of a five-star restaurant – after all, you're grabbing a bite at a food truck – but the bustling atmosphere of satisfied customers and the team's quick, friendly service more than make up for it. You're here for fantastic food, served quickly and with a side of genuine enthusiasm.

In short, Pit Stop Tacos Burgers & Sliders is where you go when you want to indulge in some seriously good eats. It's the kind of place that turns first-time visitors into regulars, and regulars into evangelists. So next time you see that truck parked on the street, do yourself a favor and pull over. Your taste buds will thank you for...

Pit Stop Sliders - A Gem in Honolulu

During a recent visit to Honolulu, my wife and I had the pleasure of experiencing Pit Stop Sliders, a food truck that truly stands out. Not only did the food exceed our expectations, but the hospitality of the owner was unmatched.

We found ourselves in a bit of a bind with a recently delayed flight and nowhere to park. The owner of Pit Stop Sliders went above and beyond by offering us his personal parking space. This act of kindness set the tone for what would be an unforgettable culinary experience.

As we waited for our food, we couldn't help but be drawn to the unique concept of the crispy cheese that surrounds the burger. This crispy cheese was a revelation – perfectly cooked, adding a delightful crunch that complemented the juicy, flavorful burger. Each bite was a perfect harmony of textures and tastes.

The burger itself was nothing short of perfection. Fresh ingredients, expertly seasoned meat, and that signature crispy cheese made it a meal we couldn’t put down. In fact, my wife and I were so engrossed in savoring each bite that we didn't exchange a single word until we had finished.

Pit Stop Sliders has set a new standard for food truck cuisine. The exceptional food and the warm, accommodating service made our visit memorable. If you find yourself in Honolulu, make sure to visit Pit Stop Sliders –...
