My husband, my daughter, and I stayed at Ohana East by Outrigger for two weeks in July. We came from Las Vegas, and I have to say we are kinda spoiled with the hospitality we get here in our town in restaurants and hotels.
It was my first time in Oahu and my husband is from Hawaii. We needed an early check in around 9am, and our room wasn’t available yet. Tracy at the front desk worked it out and provided us with one of the best rooms on the 17th floor and ocean view! Tracy’s service was exceptional. She went above and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. Her incredible hospitality continued during our whole stay. We went to her to get towels every day or for any questions, such as parking protocol. She took care of us and always had something else for us, such as a bracelet, flower, or cookies either for the 3 of us or for my daughter. Within a few days of our stay, Tracy was absolutely part of our family! I don’t know how someone can make such a positive impact on another person’s feelings in such a short time, but she is one of a kind. She made me cry with her amazing hospitality and loving personality. I don’t think it’s easy to find such a soul. Ohana East is lucky to have her. We enjoyed our stay visiting parts of Honolulu, and we called our hotel “Home” because that is how we felt about it, mainly because of Tracy, and our housekeeper, other staff at the front desk, and our breakfasts. Our room was comfortable too.
Our housekeeper was also incredible with a great smile and greeting every day. Everything was perfect and replaced properly. During our stay, I caught a cold and she made sure I had everything I needed. She showed a lot of care, provided extra tissues, etc. without me asking. I don’t know her routine and how she decides which room to give service first, but I know she was completely flexible with us. She took care of our room when we weren’t there, which was very convenient. A few times, I needed to go to her to get towels or ask her to have the service for us in the morning before we left, and she was flexible with that. We liked her service so much that we missed having her when she was off.
We are very satisfied with the Front desk as well in all shifts. Very pleasant, welcoming with smiles. In the middle of night, as I was sick, I needed an extra blanket. I called for one, and in a few minutes, I called for another. There was no change in tone of voice about why I called twice and not saying what I wanted at once. The front desk staff (a female) at night shift responded with so much care and wanted to ensure the two blankets got to me. We also needed help with the safe in our room. We needed to get out because we had a reservation for an activity and couldn’t open our safe. We were worried that we might not make it. The person in charge of that came to our room so quickly and we made our reservation. Thank you!
We loved our breakfasts! My daughter ordered the Guava waffle every day! The coffee was amazing!
We didn’t have to worry about anything when we stayed there. I would like for Tracy to be recognized by her supervisor and in her team. She made our stay memorable and made me feel like I have a family in Hawaii.
I forgot to add our housekeeper’s name. Her...
Read moreWhere do i start? this is the worst hotel experience i have ever had in my life:
1-Construction is in progress while having their guests stay in the hotel, under the guise of renovation. you should shutdown the hotel while that is ongoing. you don't have the right to annoy the guests during their stay (We were told that it is from 8am to 5PM. imagine being on your honeymoon and having to deal with all of that).
2-We booked our stay through expedia and already paid for everything. just to be hit with "resort fee" to a total of $500+ for the entire stay. we never agreed to anything like that and we were not told that we have to pay anything extra from the hotel on our first day nor on expedia's payment page.
3-They slipped a notice under the door twice about either cutting the hot water or cutting the water completely. First of all, that's not how you notify the residents. secondly, why is this happening in the first place.
4-The room is extremely small.
5-No water bottles given in the room.
6-Constant noise in the street, people revving their car/bike engines constantly or drag racing. Why isn't the hotel coordinating with the local PD to prevent this? this is supposed to be a tourist attraction, not a downtown area.
7-To my surprise, Japanese tourists have been extremely disruptive. especially teenagers. they are partying in the pool as if it's some kind of a dance club between 7 PM and 10 PM during our stay.
8-You can constantly hear the emergency services sirens in the adjacent street.
9-Construction in the next door places makes it impossible to have a peaceful time in the pool area.
10-People constantly get into the pool or jacuzi unsanitary and you can see their skin break onto the surface. One of the teenagers in the jacuzi peed himself while sitting with us.
11-People are constantly letting stuff fly off of their balconies facing the pool fall down. be ready for a game of wack-a-mole on your head. we had a soda can, water bottle, and other items, fall next to us.
12-Some of the front desk employees are rude and unphased to our problems.
13-No shower body gel, you have to use the bar of soap they are providing you.
14-The bathroom sink is so small, that you have to get close to it so you don't spalsh water outside of it. Have never ever seen something like this before. whoever the interior designer is, needs to get fired.
15- one of the elevators, had wooden walls. (Way to care about our safety).
-The only good thing about this hotel is how helpful the pool employee was. very kind and taking intiative to helping first timers in the pool area(handing towel, guiding us...
Read moreWe stayed here in a two bedroom suite for a week during our trip to Oahu. Overall, our stay was good. Here’s my breakdown of what we liked about this hotel and what could be improved.||What was good? Location - it’s about two short blocks to the beach. We could walk to the beach in about 5 minutes, shorter depending on the traffic light. And so convenient to stores and restaurants. It was nice to be less than a block to a Target where we got some water and snacks on our first day in Waikiki. Another thing that was good was the staff. The front desk people were friendly and helpful and the concierge, Blayne, was very helpful and informative about where to visit on the island. Also, our room was clean upon arrival and housekeeping was great. And the beds were comfortable. And the kitchenette area was good. It had a microwave, a decent sized refrigerator, and a kettle that we got upon request. There was a Keurig coffee machine but as a tea drinker, the kettle was better to have. We also liked the size of the living room and the two balconies. ||What can be improved? So, I can only write about the two bedroom suite. Maybe the other rooms didn’t have these issues I am about to describe. My husband and I had one room with the queen and our young adult son had the other room with the full sized bed. The size of the rooms were enough. However, we wished there was more storage in the rooms and the rest of the suite. In the room, a nightstand with a little storage on both sides of the bed would have been nice since there is no dresser in the room. Instead, there was a small side table and an oversized lamp. It looks nice but not practical. I ended up using the tv stand/cabinet in the living room to put some of my items. Something else that could have been improved is the storage/organization in the bathroom. The bathroom itself is small and the shower area is the smallest I have ever seen in a hotel. It would have been nice to have a bigger counter space or a drawer or two or maybe just a few hooks in the bathroom. To share a space with even one other person and not have the space to put our stuff was a bit challenging. This is a small issue but improving storage space would make a big difference. Another challenge was the parking garage. Since it was also a public garage for some local retail and restaurants, finding parking with our rental car was sometimes frustrating. But we did visit Oahu during a busy season so that didn’t help either. ||So overall, we did enjoy our stay. In terms of the accommodations, I would give this place a 3.5 but the friendly staff bumped up my rating to a 4...
