Over the past 25 years I have stayed at The Bamboo a handful of times as well as other properties. Back then it was a good 3 star hotel with many services, a nice pool area and the property management team was impressive. Today the Bamboo is old, tired, very poorly managed and really needs to just be abandoned. We have just had a 10 day stay where the hotel never provided a room cleaning, only gave us clean towels on day 6 after a stern complaint and we were constantly told there is a 4 day waitlist for beach towels that are normally provided. All water was shut down for 4 hours one day, our room was not properly cleaned prior to our arrival with hair and blood stains in bathroom, the sheets were stained and very poor linens are used on the bed including a ridiculous bed protector that wasn’t fitted properly and meant we needed to strip the bed every day. Pool facilities are old, run down, not all that clean and didn’t encourage us to use the facility. They of course use Covid-19 as their reason and that they can’t find staff. So after our 10 day stay we went next door to another 3 star hotel, The Monarch that cleans rooms every day if you like just let the front know the day before. Unlimited clean towels and Beach towels galore. So tell me is it Covid-19 or poor management on the part of the Bamboo? A couple of front desk staff were friendly while more then a couple were not pleasant, unhelpful and just didn’t care. It’s a budget hotel and you get what you pay for however you don’t even get that any longer at the Bamboo. With all of these services missing they are still happy to collect their high resort fee and normal rates with no offer of compensation. Shop around there are many other hotels in this category with better management, facilities and services still provided. If not pay a few more dollars over the Bamboo and ensure you have a wonderful Hawaiian stay. After 25 years good bye Bamboo you have lost my friends and I as a customer.

So we stayed our last 3 days here from Dec. 26 - Dec 29th. Our room was 305, it was ok, we were supposed to have 2 double beds but something happened and we only got 1 double bed and a couch. Our view faced out the front of the hotel overlooking the bus stop. This is my second time staying here and sadly the rooms seem to have gone down hill since 2016. The bathroom floor was lifting up, you could clearly see it was the stick on floor pieces as they did not seal very well. The toilet lid was so loose you could lift the whole piece up! I had to use toilet paper and reach underneath to tighten up the lid bolts! Overall it looked clean, but the ceiling and wall paint job was terrible! It could really use some tlc. They only have around 10 to 12 parking spots in their garage below! Sadly it had just flooded before we arrived so we had to park about 4 blocks down and 5 blocks up in a free parking zone for the first night. The last 2 nights we were able to park in the garage and that was sooo much easier! And safer since I had a rental. The staff were nice, the pool and spa were amazing and so relaxing after a long day. We ended up not using the nice kitchen in our room, but it is nice if you wanted to cook breakfast or such. The elevator doors and walls really need to be cleaned! But otherwise it was a nice 2 block walk to the main beach and food every where!

Do your research before booking this accommodation. Overall, while the location is great, the property and amenities left a lot to be desired. Kuhio Avenue is a busy thoroughfare, and the noise starts as early as 6AM daily. Be cautious about the type of room you book. Our booking didn’t include access to standard hotel amenities like daily housekeeping, maintenance support for issues (e.g., safe and toilet problems), or baggage storage upon early arrival despite there being an in-house facility. Reception staff were indifferent anytime we made an enquiry. The property is showing its age, with mould in the bathroom, kitchen, and under the desk in the living room, plus furniture wear and tear like fraying upholstery. Space is limited—there’s not enough room to hang damp towels, and the kitchen is poorly equipped for a self-contained unit (e.g., no dish drying rack, coffee machine with no filters, only one tea towel). The aircon unit was directly above the bed so not ideal to run while we slept, so we opted for fresh air—only to deal with traffic noise and smoke/vape smells drifting in all night. The sofa bed mattresses were very uncomfortable, and the bedroom wardrobe didn’t have doors. While the bedroom was spacious, the bathroom was tiny with minimal benchspace.

Are you looking for a motel experience for the price of a hotel? Well, look no further! First of all, this place is super sketchy. I booked my 4 night stay here 3 months before my trip, the first 4 days I got to Hawaii I stayed at the Marriott resort, should’ve just stayed there my entire trip, but decided to switch it up part of the trip cause Marriott didn’t have a kitchen and this hotel said their rooms had kitchenette. When I booked our room, I booked a 1 queen and 2 side beds room with a kitchenette. Even received confirmation of the room I booked and description. When we arrived and went to our room, there was only one queen bed and a sofa. I went back down to talk to the guy and he said, my confirmation email is saying it’s a 3 beds room but for the price I paid it was a queen bed only and also because I booked through a third party site, they must’ve changed the description... I did called the third party I booked the room and they said all the descriptions they have are copied and paste from the hotels site directly. After a lot of finger pointing and blaming, they told me they can’t get me another room cause they’re all booked and if they did they’ll charge me more. I was tired by this point and asked if I could just get extra blankets and pillows and called it a day, the dude replied back with, there’s a special person that hands that out and they’re gone for the day but he’ll ask for it for the next day, it was only 4pm. I said, fine, do they have a roll away bed I can barrow for the night, he said nope. I asked if we can get more than just the two towels in the room, he said no, and if we wanted beach towels, we can go down to the ABC store... during our 5 days there, we never got any towels, blankets, they didn’t come check up and clean the room. There was no garbage bags. No where to put our trash. The washing machine broke, we couldn’t even do our laundry. We were given 2 extra roll of toilet paper our entire stay there. We paid a $150 resort fee and there was nothing to enjoy so I’m so confused what that was about. They had a small pool in the back but it wasn’t filled up a couple of the days and when it was, there were bugs and leaves all over it. The back area is also opened to the public so again, made no sense why we had to pay a resort fee. Oh, but on our last night, they did came by and drop off 1 new towel lol! We used the same 2 towels all 4 nights and went to buy our own......

Nasty nasty nasty hotel. My boyfriend and I went through hell and back with this place and wasted 3 days of our precious time in Hawaii. If you stay at this hotel (which I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy) please check under your fitted sheet. We found blood stains on our bed. Went to the front desk to complain. Was told that they didn’t have any spare sheets in the entire hotel. We then had to ASK to be switched to a clean room. However, as it turns out, there was not one clean room in the entire building. The receptionist showed us 3 other rooms, all of which had bloody sheets. Absolutely disgusting. We asked to speak to a manager who we were told would not be there for 3 days (Monday). We were so disgusted to have to basically sleep on soiled sheets, my boyfriend and I felt so uneasy and could not relax the entire time we were there. Monday comes and we finally get to talk to the manager Wade. He completely gaslights us, demands to see proof of the dirty rooms, and basically tells us we can leave if we don’t like it. At this point we have noticed black mold spots on the walls, in the shower, and on the lamps. We also saw spray painted p*nises on the walls in the bedroom that were poorly covered up with paint. This place had to have been a crack house. The manager Wade also told us that it’s normal to have mold in hotel rooms and refused to give us the number for corporate. after doing some digging online and calling around we were able to talk to the Castle Corporate office. Luckily they were able to move us to a very nice property in a different location. However we were extremely disappointed to waste multiple days of our trip fighting to get a clean room. Oh, not to mention, the elevator broke about 3 times during the few days we were staying there. There is no public staircase and there are 10 floors. There’s so much more I could say but this is just scratching the surface of what we experienced there. Btw what everyone is saying about the receptionist Cecilia is absolutely true. Horribly rude...
