Part of the Hyatt and on the same level (3) as it's cheaper cousin (the pool cafe), this is positioned as a "classy" restaurant.
The atmosphere is generally pretty good although my wife hated the chairs saying they were uncomfortable (essentially outdoor furniture). The seating outside is nice when the trade winds are blowing but would be stiflingly hot at others.
There was a wedding going on next door and the staff initially positioned us within a couple of metres of the speaker. They offered a little resistance and sass when we asked to be moved but complied. The music and speeches still remained very loud but it was better. Recommended that you don't visit on a function night.
Disabled access is very good with a nearby lift and wide spacing between tables. Toilets are not on site but are just around the corner.
Prices are quite high, especially given the type and quality of food on offer.
I had the fried chicken, not because I was interested in it but because at $38 it was the lowest priced main and we'd earmarked this night to be a relatively cheap night out. We didn't even get all dressed up. They also had a $40 fish dish and something possibly vegetarian then the remaining mains tended to be $70 and above.
My wife ordered coconut prawns cutlets. We ordered a side of fries. We attempted to order a lemon, lime and bitters but the waiter had never heard of this and asked us what was in it. We tried to explain that the name said it all but in the end we gave up and went for brand name sodas which were served with so much ice that they were watered down before we were finished.
Food quantity was very good. In fact I'd suggest that the serving size was probably double what I would have been comfortable with. We don't need "half a chicken".
Food quality was abysmal. The chicken needed a great deal of strength to cut and to eat. It was mostly very dry and not particularly flavoursome. I felt queasy after having eaten it and still feel that way the following morning. A quick glance around the venue told me that other patrons were in a similar predicament as there wasn't a whole lot of eating going on. When it comes to fried chicken, there's an obvious fast food restaurant that you need to at least be better than to be competitive. This wasn't even close.
My wife's coconut prawns were passable but she would not order them again.
We had expected something special in the fries as the beach cafe/restaurant in the same complex makes brilliant ones. Unfortunately Shor cooks their fries in very old oil. The texture is not very good and the flavour is terrible. There were some flavourless herbs on top and some rubbery cheese on the bottom.
We were quite frankly happy to be out of the place and glad to have made it through the night without major episodes but I still feel queasy.
Shor: you have the atmosphere and the positioning. Put up some screening from the pool area, throw those menus out, hire a good chef and reduce both your portions and your prices.
Until then. This restaurant is not...
Read moreThe food is really really good especially the Burger and the Àina Salad Bowl These are ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The server that waited on me on Sunday night at the Dining Room was excellent ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and empathetic when I told him about how I was made to believe the dining room was closed due to covid. The entertainer “Christian” plays excellent Ukele and takes requests. You have to hear Perfect by Ed Sheeran & Imagine by Beatles on Ukelele by Christian ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Shor and Hyatt staff need to treat everyone one with the same level of respect. Most don’t treat you fairly unfortunately. I didn’t let anything get in the way of my vacation or enjoying the great meals. But this is important report here for Solo and group travelers.
The details : On Thursday 11/25 Thanksgiving Day, when I checked into to the hotel, I was so excited to have dinner at The Shor because they really advertised it all over the place. But when I got to the restaurant one of the waiters told me take out only for lunch and dinner and dining room was closed to public. He said this time several times. I even asked him when I could sit down and eat and he was like oh I don’t know you can sit down anywhere just not the restaurant. I found it odd as he and others seemed to be working so they were waiting on others. So I had to bring the food (The Burger & Salad) to my room n have eat alone on thanksgiving. I an awesome direct view of the Waikiki Beach 🏖 outside my balcony so it worked out well I didn’t let the hotel’s ways mess up my Day 1 Now same thing happened on Sunday Day4 I really wanted to have that salad I went downstairs to 3rd floor and same thing occurred . The bartender said lunch menu till 5pm then dinner menu and take out only for lunch and dinner and they couldn’t find a single take out menu. So come evening I tried calling the Shor restaurant for about an hour to order Then finally went downstairs and found the dining hall open. I explained the situation to Matre D and she wasn’t surprisingly but didn’t quite believe me and brushed it off
Even today I complained to the other bartender there And he didn’t really seem to care Hyatt needs to have people who can communicate clearly to hotel guest and treat...
Read moreDue to COVID (July 2021) buffet was serviced by chefs behind the counter. I wouldn't even pay $5 for the meal, but we ended up eating there anyway since our room was included with breakfast. Fruits and pastries were ok.
Staff at SHOR (breakfast) restaurant definitely needs better training. One of the staff when we checked in for breakfast every morning was very rude (skinny short young guy probably in his 20s). Maybe over worked and desperate in need of a vacation in a paradise (ie: Waikiki beach which is steps away). First day he made my wife go back to our room and get a mask. Very next day we noticed that a 'white' couple who checked in without a mask was offered one. We felt very discriminated. This same person did not respond kindly when we asked to sit closer to the edge of the restaurant (so we can see the Ocean while having breakfast). One chef (who looked like Robert Kiyosaki) behind the main counter seemed to be in a bad mood every day. Once again need better training. What made it somewhat pleasant was the chef named Andy who was behind the fruit/pastry counter. Waiters and waitresses were very nice and polite. Day we left one waitress was so kind and took the time to chat with us and our kids we ended up leaving a $20 cash tip just for her. Wish there were more people like her working at this restaurant.
Bad service (except for the servers) combined with terrible food... avoid breakfast at this place...
