Got Robbed – Hotel could careless
Imagine saving for your first trip to Hawaii for your birthday only to have all your belongings stolen from your room and the hotel could care less about it.
August 15th-19th 2025 at the Outrigger Waikiki. This location checked everything off for what I was looking for. Restaurants on site as well as it being off the beach.
Everything went well until the night of the 18th when we went to dinner at 6pm. We were gone approximately 2 hours. After dinner we went walking around enjoying the nighttime weather. Once we got back to our room, I noticed that the back sliding door was wide open. I advised my girlfriend who immediately noticed her luggage, shoes and other belongings were missing. I then noticed that mine were as well. My shoes as well as other items were missing. And when I say they took everything, they took everything. I had my PASSPORT in my luggage as well which was a big concern since how would I get back home. We only had the clothes on our backs left. Now as far as the door goes. I verified it was locked before we left out anywhere. We immediately called the front desk who sent up a couple of security guards and the manager to investigate. We told them the details as well as that we would like to file a police report. The manage said he can run a report to see who accessed the door with a card and would get back to us. We gave a report as they investigated outside of the room. Police and security thought this was someone who most likely worked at the hotel since no one else has access to that part of the hotel. The report and all took about an hour a half before the police left. We did not feel safe after this. It was 2 hours at this point, and we had not heard back from the manager. We decided to go to the check in station to get an update. We let the clerk know what happened. We asked for another room, but he had to get manager approval, so he got up and came back but the manager did not come out. The clerk only said it was approved. Asked for mgr again. The night manager came out and looked at us like it was the first time he had seen us. He asked “may I help you” I couldn’t believe this guy. I then let him know that he advised us he would get back to us regarding the door lock report to which he says, “we ran the report and didn’t see anything suspicious”. So again, that would make sense since the back door was open. We then asked for some consideration as we spent all this money on this room. He had the nerve to tell us “Well I already put you in a new room, what else do you want”. It was very hard to keep my composure as I could not believe he could care less about what we just went through. Next morning we got up and went to talk to another manager. Her name was “Chrystalle Anger” and she seemed a lot more understanding and concerned to what we had experienced. A complete 180 compared to the other manager. Chrystalle let us know that there should be cameras outside and that she would go through all the footage and get to the bottom of things. Chrystalle said she would keep the bill open and not charge anything until she completes her own investigation and assured us again that she would get back to us. I then noticed my credit card was charged on August 20th, 2025. My girlfriend called Chrystelle’s number the 21st and left a message to which she has not answered. After writing reviews on social media one of their team members reached out to my girlfriend and let her know they would be reaching out. It is now August 28th and we have not heard back from anyone. Its not short of disgraceful and pathetic that a company that acts like it has family values could care less about this and not even try to make things right. I hope this helps people’s decision on a place to stay for their first time as well. One last thing I remember is the daytime manager Chrystalle saying that something like this has never happened to which my response is “then why if this has not happened before would you not want to...
Read moreWe had previously eaten at Duke’s and stayed across the street, so we knew the next time we stayed in Waikiki we would stay here for the proximity and location of this hotel to the beach as well as restaurants. The area to pull your car into to unload is kind of small and tight. Props to the valet folks as they are able to stay calm and try to organize the cars and people as much as possible. They try to move quick for everyone involved. They set you up with the valet service if you have a car. It is $45/day with in and out privileges. They unloaded our car and got us set up with bell services. Bell services employees were extremely friendly as well. The lobby is actually on the “second level” so you can take the escalator or elevator up to where the check in is. They were quite busy when we arrived but we didn’t have to wait too long to be helped. The check in employee who helped us seemed a little cold and unemotional which was kind of disappointing as we felt so welcomed at the front, but not during check in. It took a while for him to find us a room that was currently ready. We booked a city view room and our room actually had a tiny view of the ocean if you looked to the side so that was cool! He explained how the elevators worked and how the towel cards work. The elevator buttons are on the outside and you scan your card on the outside of the elevator and it is all automated when you get into the elevator. It is confusing at first, but after a day you understand. The towel cards are used at the pool attendant station to exchange for towels. Upon returning the towels you can exchange for new ones, or exchange for the cards again, you just have to return the cards upon check out. The room is quite spacious and has tons of storage which I appreciate. Others have mentioned that the rooms are in need of an upgrade, really just the carpet and doors need to be upgraded, the furniture and the rest of the bathroom was perfectly fine. You get reusable water bottles and a tote bag as part of your resort fee. Be sure to check the website to see what is included in your resort fee such as wifi and other discounts. They have cultural activities every day in the lobby. The schedule is posted in the lobby as well as online. They have a large variety of activities which are nice if you have the time. I only had the time to do the bamboo stamping activity. You make a bookmark with acrylic paint and bamboo stampers while also learning about the native culture of Hawaii. We used the bag as a beach tote although most shops require reusable shopping bags so you can use it for that as well. They have water bottle filling stations in the lobby level as well as the lower level where you access the beach. The two restaurants at the hotel, Duke’s and Hula grill, are both fantastic and both were constantly busy no matter the time of day when we walked by. They have fresh fish and ocean views. Our room was made up every day by housekeeping. They were so friendly and said aloha every time we passed them. They replenished everything in the room every time which was nice and generous. They even vacuumed once during the week as well. The pool seemed a little small for the size of the resort, but they also have more lounger chairs in the level below the pool by the beach to chill in as well. They also have a server going around here too if you need to order food or drinks, the servers were very friendly and not pushy at all. There is a laundry area here, Pai’s deli, some shops, and an acai bowl place here at the hotel as well. The blue note comedy club is here and although we never had time to go in, there was always a line to get in which is a good sign. Overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and appreciated the fact that it is located on the beach and in close walking distance to many main points and...
Read moreI’m actually staying at the “resort” now. I’m less than impressed. Some highlights first. The valets (only way to park, which is no big deal) have been extremely nice and really seem like they want to be helpful. The location is quintessential Waikiki Beach if that is what you are looking for. Busy city beach. My son and I prefer more natural beaches on Maui and Kauai, but my daughter and wife like this one so that’s really just preference. With that said, this place puts you right in the action. At check in the clerk was a pretty nice guy. He was offering us an upgrade from partial ocean to ocean front for a reasonable price, but we weren’t planning to spend much time in the room so we passed. He then offered to move us so we could be higher and closer to the water at the same rate which was nice to do. Unfortunately, the room the gave us wreaked of cigarette smoke. At first I wanted to just let it slide, but it was bad enough that we decided to move again. The new room is on the south south side of the building which would be fine other than they are doing some sort of construction so this morning as we were having coffee on the balcony, it was like we were enjoying it with 40 dudes doing work on the building next to us. Not really the outrigger’s fault, but sucks nonetheless. It’s worth noting that rooms are really outdated and could use a refresh. We went downstairs to talk with the Person at the activities desk. She seemed nice enough at first, but was less than helpful once we said we weren’t interested in the helicopter tour. We tried to get suggestions, but she really just pressed the helicopter. We asked her about Pearl Harbor, and she assured us we would not want to do without tickets to see the USS AZ memorial, and the best way would be for us to buy an expensive ride and their “special” tickets. More on that in a moment. We asked about snorkeling and scuba as we had found one we were interested in. She pulled up the same exact tour and offered it to us for $50 more per person than we could just do on our phone sitting in front of her. So we walked out and just booked it ourselves. Then we drove to Pearl Harbor and got on standby. Looked at the museum and watched a film in the theater, went and looked at the submarine, and guess what? Got a text that they were ready for us to go to the memorial. Total cost? $7 for parking. Anyway, the activities desk is a grift, and they don’t offer anything the web browser on you phone doesn’t. I’d be less inclined to complain about it if she hadn’t become so dismissive the second we said we weren’t interested in paying for a helicopter ride. We came back and went out to the beach which you access via a tiny pool with beach chairs stacked so densely it’s hard to walk. However, that exit was closed for a private dinner so we had to walk out through outdoor dining area of Dukes. Anyway, swam in the ocean until sunset then came back to go to the pool, and that entry was still closed. So we are now dragging our beach stuff covered in sand through the outdoor dining area and profusely apologizing to diners on our way by. We are paying a resort fee by the day just to be here. And we are paying that to use their tiny pool and do an embarrassing death march past diners on the way back from the beach. We haven’t even been here half our stay which I would change if I could, so who knows, maybe it gets better. I’m not optimistic though. I’d give this place a 1 star but as I said the valet and the front desk people have been really pleasant. But pick...
