Would not recommend Thai House of Hood River Oregon.
I recently visited Thai House in Hood River, Oregon, and I was extremely disappointed with my experience. The food was mediocre at best and lacked any real depth of flavor or authenticity. The Pad Thai was overly sweet with no real flavor other than sweetness, and the noodles were overcooked, making it a mushy mess. The curry lacked spice and had an odd aftertaste that was unappetizing. The Thai Tea was barely tea at all, was not made with the classic Thai recipe- was very watery with no tea flavor. My friend ordered a Hot Tea and was brought a cup of hot water and a tea bag- they charged him $4 for hot water and a tea bag. Overall, the dishes were lacking the complexity and balance of flavors that are characteristic of authentic Thai cuisine.
The service was also very poor. Our server was inattentive and dismissive, leaving us waiting for long periods of time to place our order and receive our food. We had to ask for refills multiple times and our server seemed annoyed by our requests. The owner was very loud when talking about her needing to fire an employee for having a second job!
To make matters worse, the restaurant was not particularly clean. The tables were sticky and there was a strange odor throughout the dining area. It was clear that the restaurant was not well-maintained.
Overall, I would not recommend Thai House in Hood River, Oregon. The food was mediocre, the service was poor, and the overall ambiance was uninviting. There are plenty of other Thai restaurants in the area that offer better food, service,...
Read moreI normally don’t complain and I am not sure if it is the norm or not, but our takeout dinner was very disappointing. I ordered ... Pra-Ram (Peanut Sauce) “Your choice of meat sautéed with steamed cauliflower, broccoli, and green beans topped with peanut sauce” , and a side of brown rice. What I received was just the base ingredients, and a container of peanut sauce. There was absolutely NO seasoning at all of the ingredients, and no sautéing of any kind. I did order it mild on the spice scale, but considering all the reviews that said how spicy reviewers said the food was, I needed to be careful. I did not expect bland, unseasoned, not even garlic or salt or pepper, food. I mean it was like it was just cut up and microwaved! We were grateful that we paid for some extra peanut sauce because without it there was absolutely no flavor...zero, zip, just nothing!!!! Weird...like a baby’s first home meal.
My husband ordered KengDeng and felt that there was also very little effort in the construction of the meal too..like the ingredients were just added together in one container. He ordered spice at 4 which is all that saved his meal. His order of pork summer rolls was bland chicken and unseasoned veggies.
We know everyone has their favorite Thai place...and maybe the food is better in house...but had we wanted to make our own dinner we would have...for over $30 we did not expect to have to come back to our vacation...
Read moreI absolutely love thai food, so I was excited to try one in the city I was visiting. I was absolutely shocked at how good the reviews are for this place and how everything was here. Either they're using fake reviews and/or paying for reviews.
The food was absolutely bland as all could be. My beef in the drunken noodles was overcooked, stringy, and totally flavorless, even dusted lightly with seasoning you could hardly tell. The potstickers were very clearly frozen ones, with hardly any veg, and no seasoning. Everything here seems to be made for the palette of someone who has never actually had thai food before.
Onto drinks. They had no soda available, which was written over the menu in sharpie, no change or update to what they offer officially, just scratched out and written not available. The 'hot tea' which you normally order at a thai place did not come when I ordered it. Instead what came was a cup of hot water, and a bunch of assorted tea bags, expecting me to steep my own like I'm in an elderly diner from the 90s. Their thai iced tea was primarily milk and sugar, and had a very underwhelming use of spice.
The acoustics in the place was very odd, very echoing. I could hear things normally you wouldn't expect to.
The one thing I will say that was good was the waitress that occasionally checked in with us. That is why this is 2 star...
