Friendly, local, and delicious cafe and shop full of amazing local goodies.
Came in for a quick breakfast, and in the process picked up some amazing organic teas, baked treats and fresh bread to take home.
Spent a few hours working from my van while parked (hood street parking and relatively level), then decided to grab lunch here too. Tried the soup and their pizza. Soooo good, great portion size and reasonably priced.
Everything tasted homemade and top quality. Their thumbprint cookies with local jam are the bomb. The almond croissant and pear pie I brought home to share with my boyfriend were so good. And the rye bread was the best we’ve tried locally while exploring all around the gorge.
Best of all, the service was quick and friendly. Both servers/cashiers who helped me were awesome. Had a good chat with the gentleman who took my lunch order.
They had a few vegan / plant based options and lots of vegetarian choices to pick from. They were willing to answer questions and check specific ingredients upon request.
I came in during the weekday and the place wasn’t busy. Lots of room to spread and they have cute outside sitting. Looks like not sitting inside at the moment though but I suppose you could drink your coffee...
Read moreThis place has small town management, is overpriced and overrated. I spent a month trying to order some catered food for an event. They know how to ruin your plans. We drove over from Portland to sample their food. The place is adorable, the wait staff were kind, and the food was good. I asked about catering and was given a card. First I got no response to calls or emails, then an apology because things were in flux and being changed…... When I finally started asking questions about each thing I wanted to order, the answers were confusing. I suggested a simple order form to fill out. The prices aren’t published. I wanted to be specific about what I was getting in a pastry tray and sandwich tray. I asked for extra cinnamon rolls and said I didn’t want all sweet breads. It’s now a week before the event and the general manager “Molly” cancelled my order. She said I was condescending when I inquired about the prices and content of pastry tray being too vague. I’m not sure where she learned management, but to cancel a week before a planned event is not only rude and hostile, but basically a horrid business decisions, which led to this angry customer review. Order your event...
Read moreI was driving home to Montana from California, and stopped in Hood River to pick up some breakfast and lunch, and let my dog stretch her legs. I decided to go out of my way to Pine Street Bakery, because I am a baked goods addict. We have a few good bakeries in Missoula, but this one knocked it out of the park. I bought a cardamom knot, ham & cheese croissant, cinnamon roll, and a loaf of 5-grain bread, all for $19. Now, I fancy myself a pretty good sweet bread baker (having devoted the pandemic to perfecting it, and gaining 15 lbs in the process), but the cardamom knot easily exceeded all my attempts. The crumb was amazing--gluten had great development, with a nice stretch. Not too sweet, and wonderful flavor. The bread ALSO had a great crumb, which is unusual for a whole grain bread. Makes amazing toast. I haven't tried the cinnamon bun yet. The only slight disappointment was the ham & cheese croissant. Not bad, but nothing special there.
If I lived in Hood River I would become a blimp. It's definitely worth a stop and a little drive through town to stop here. Best bakery I've experienced in a...
