So Friday me and my fiancée went in to Chuck’s after a doctors appointment in greystone. I’m very familiar with Charles restaurants he has some of the best around from B’ham to the panhandle of Fl and I’ve talked chuck’s up but the hours just don’t fit Mine and her busy out of town schedules. I was a Birmingham resident along with a Destin vacation house but we no longer live near any of his restaurants (Charles) the owner. They don’t open until 5pm but, me and my fiancé got out of appointment around 350pm and made our way to chucks. We arrived at 4pm not realizing the opening time was 5pm but as we made our way to the door it was unlocked and all staff appeared to be working preparing for their evening. We looked to the left and there was a lady there the hostess that said sorry guys we are closed and want open until 5pm so I was like ok well we would like to reserve a reservation is that possible. So she said most tables was booked but she could get us a later time unless we wanted to wait for the sushi bar or the actual bar and she could seat us there at 5 pm. So I gave her my name and told her we would just goto Grey bar next door and have a drink and wait. So we did just that. 508pm we made our way back to Chuck’s and gave the other hostess our name and she said there wasn’t no such name and now this place is packed with no seats. So I made my way to find the blond hostess that lead us to believe of our 1 hr wait next door and she said sorry sir we had a party called when you left and had to book the sushi bar and the bar until there seated. I said that’s not what you told me she was rude laughed in my face and then when and told another lady the situation and was laughing because I was clearly upset. This has bothered me for 3 days and being now that it’s 5 pm in B’ham all the good restaurants are full and booked up as she lead us on a 1.5 hour lieing tour. Means my fienacee have been to Harbor docks, 5ive, and I have personally eaten here all fantastic food and worth waiting for but to be lied to and then laughed at has just hit home with me. I believe the lady aka hostess has been there for quite some time and was dealing with her new regulars but don’t realize that I was one of them before I moved out of town. My family still eats here 2-3 days a week and this is so disappointing that I had to leave a review something I have not done but maybe a few times in my life. I’m still very angry how unprofessional and embarrassing this lady presented herself and this franshise would be greatly disappointed if they new how she handled us and lied. I reached out to management but never...
Read more2 Stars would be bad. It wasn't bad... it was just ok, especially for the prices!! 2.5 Stars rounded up. Another case of (imho) a restaurant that most in Birmingham would consider to be an amazing dining experience with amazing food that just doesn't live up to that hype for me. For the record, even if there was 0 hype, my review would be the same.
The atmosphere is fine; The sushi bar has a really cool video wall that rotates through various Asian locales. Otherwise, pretty standard dining. Given the reviews provided to us, I would have expected this to be somewhere that came along with an (unspoken) dress code of some kind, but nope... not at all. Our server (hate I don't recall her name) was the best part of this dining experience. She was patient, offered great descriptions and suggestions and even advised against getting the stuffed shrimp to go as it didn't heat well, which we very much appreciated.
Speaking of the stuffed shrimp, it was hands down the best tasting item that was ordered (within the Seafood Platter). Spring rolls (4), fine. Not terrible, not great. The rest of the Seafood Platter, scallops, bronzed fish, rice pilaf, seasonal veggies... all just fine. Again, the stuffed shrimp was really good and flavorful! White chocolate Bread Pudding... you guessed it... just ok. It deserves some vanilla ice cream instead of the whipped cream it's served with, but otherwise pretty standard. Lastly, I'm no bartender, but my Old Fashioned is far better than the one I was served here.
Would I return to get the stuffed shrimp a la carte... an unsure maybe?? Maybe not. It's got at least 4 stars on Yelp, Fb and Google... so recognize that my opinion is in the minority, but it is my...
