The good reviews on here have to be fake, paid for, or just people who have never left the yoop and havenāt tried Chinese food in different places. Chinese food is my favorite and Iāve tried it in almost every state in the country, this is the worst. JJās Not worth the price or the time going there. 24 dollars for a serving of orange chicken, 5 crab rangoon, 1 sauce, and an Arizona ice tea and thatās not including the fee for the atm across the street because itās cash only. The orange chicken is not what you would ever expect, itās like grilled chicken cut up into tiny pieces in soy sauce with big vegetables, 2 pieces of red peppers, and 3 tiny strips of orange peels. I would rate the crab Rangoon a 5/10 it wasnāt bad but isnāt something I would ever order again. The sauce for the Rangoon is a extra dollar an oz. I asked for sweet and sour sauce for the Rangoon but they gave me whatever sauce they had that was a dollar. I tossed the sauce right out, disgusting. Iāve never not wanted to eat at a Chinese restaurant again before in my life but Iāll never...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe recently moved into the Houghton area and were craving take out Chinese food. A friend suggested JJ's Wok and we gave it a try. We ordered several items so we could sample a variety of JJ's offerings. EVERYTHING was fresh and delicious. They are able to add or subtract ingredients to your liking. Flavor was well adjusted and unique to each dish, i.e., it did not all taste the "same" as many Chinese restaurants dish out.
When you call in an order, they prep the ingredients in advance and finish in the hot wok once you come in for pick up. This takes a few minutes, but you leave with hot food off the wok which has not been sitting in containers getting soggy.
They take cash or check only, so be prepared. The kitchen is small and the fresh prep is time consuming, so do as I did and call in your order well ahead of your preferred pick up time. My last suggestion: the food is well spiced, but if you like extra heat, make sure you order one or more containers of their home made hot chili...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot what it used to be... I used to love going to JJ's...but this time left me sad and hungry.
The condition of the kitchen was scary: bits of food all over the one prep table, dirty rags on the floor, floor tiles broken and dirty, clutter all over the place. I don't remember things looking this bad when JJ worked the wok himself.
This visit there were two very polite and nice ladies working. Unfortunately, they don't have any uniforms (or at least work shirt).
The place was VERY hot inside. Either the A/C wasn't working, not turned on, or not turned down to a comfortable temperature.
Finally, JJ's still does not take Visa/MasterCard, and I often do not carry cash...so we ended up going next door to Rodeo for lunch.
I'll need to see some better reports about the cleanliness and comfort of the place before I return. Also, I'd strongly suggest they take Visa/MasterCard. It's easy with services like PayPal, Square, Intuit GoPay, just...
