The place: A bar with books. You might not want to read them, they look like they’re mostly for decor, but if you’ve ever wanted to say, “I went to the library and got a drink,” now’s your chance. The location: It’s on a hill just off the Main Street through downtown Houghton. There’s street parking and a public lot a short bit away. Super easy to access. The fare: Generous selection of tap beers. I love a good local brew, and there are many to sample. Tasting flights too! There are also mixed drinks and alcoholic milkshake type things, so fitting for any alcohol preference. I got a blueberry ale which came with frozen blueberries in it, much to my surprise and delight. The fettuccine Alfredo was delicious and probably arrived with a pound or more of pasta. It’s worth the price because you’re getting two or more meals out of this. Dinners come with a soup or salad! Spousifer got a shrimp po’boy woth onion rings which he generously shared. They were a little dark, but I loved the crispy. The service: We had a server who was fabulous. They seated us swiftly and made jokes with us. They checked in to make sure everything was good and commiserated when we lamented the absence of the Impossible burger. They shared their advice and gave us some insight! They’d been working a multiple-shift day, so I extra appreciated the energy and kindness that kept coming. Next time: We went for the Impossible burger, but they were out. Next time, I’ll call ahead and ask if they’re available or just roll the die again.

Very nice place. Apple harvest salad was great and their specialty soup was good. Not busy at all when we arrived at 530 but it did get busy. Nice views too. Seems they are a little slow. Wait staff or kitchen staff idk which.

As far as I'm concerned, the only reason to visit The Library is "Sushi Tuesday;" a strange tradition in which Sushi is served if it is a Tuesday. It is not the greatest sushi you'll ever have but it is the only sushi you're going to get for about two hundred and fifty miles in any direction. Maybe more. Aside from the sushi, the food is standard American fare which you can get at any other restaurant and it isn't special. The only way in which the food is special is its price. A simple burger will break you unless you're some kind of high roller. If you're one of these newfangled "craft beer" enthusiasts then maybe you'll like the microbrewery feature but I wouldn't claim to know anything about that. I stick to hard liquor. On that note, I'll take the opportunity to mention that their cocktails are reasonably good and certainly not great. The servers are quite friendly and are usually in that nice motherly category which is what you want to see in a waiter. Lots of tourists. Always busy. If you're gonna go, make sure it's on a Tuesday. Just trust me.

Went to the Library for dinner with my fiance on a Friday night. We arrived right around 7:00 pm and the place was moderately busy. Our meal started with an appetizer order of a Ahi Tuna. We requested the order be cooked a specific way. After about a half hour it was finally delivered to our table by one of the cooks. Unfortunately, it was obviously incorrect, so the concern was immediately brought to that same cook's attention in hopes of getting the issue corrected. When the Ahi returned to the table it was still done wrong; basically appearing the same. In the time between the appetizer being sent back for the first AND second time, we had to make another request for our soups. The chicken noodle soup had only about 4 noodles and was made up of primarily broth. Our appetizer made its second trip to our table and though it was slightly improved it still was not as requested. The Tuna was send back for one last attempt and basically became carry-out. Both entrees (grilled chicken salad and steak Philly) were on point, just took some time. At the time of receiving the bill we were also delivered our take-out Ahi Tuna, sadly it was still wrong and now very over cooked. The waiter was able to remove the incorrect order from the bill which was greatly appreciated. The waiter did well, but perhaps there is an issue in the kitchen. In the past we would frequent this pub/restraruant and never had issues with our orders like this especially...

I very much appreciated the offer to call and get a refund that was left as a comment to my review by the owner. I’ve called a few times with no response. And, unfortunately the mailbox is full so I can’t leave a message with my number for a call back.

… I’ve loved The Library for years and would eat here every time I came to town. Because of their disappointing customer service, they’ve lost a loyal customer.

I ordered take out and one of the items was a salad. The salad came dressed and was sitting on a hot meal on my drive back to where I was staying. 20 mins later when I went to eat, the salad was completely soggy and inedible. I called The Library to ask for a refund because I wasn’t able to make a 40min round trip back for a new salad. I was told they could only give me a refund if I came back in person to show my credit card and that they can’t deal with it tonight so I should come back the next day. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he was the manager.

I went in the next day with my card and was told they couldn’t give me a refund because it was the next day and the couldn’t reopen the order on their computer, but they could have provided a refunded the night before over the phone. I asked to speak to a manager again, but was told there’s no manager working and nothing they can do. I was told that the person I spoke to the night before lied about being a manager and being...
