The Copper Poppy in Houghton, Michigan, is one of those places where you can easily lose track of time in the best way possible. I genuinely spent around three hours there, and I could have stayed even longer because it was so much fun exploring everything they had. The store is packed with a huge variety of items, from knick-knacks to toys, decorations, games, and different kinds of snacks and food. Everywhere you turn, thereâs something new and interesting to look at, and it feels like a mini adventure as you walk through the aisles. The best part is that all the items are actually amazing quality, so itâs not just random clutter but genuinely cool and practical things that make you want to pick up a few items to take home. I found myself excited to dig through the different sections, and it felt like a treasure hunt where youâre guaranteed to find something you love. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming, making it a comfortable place to browse for as long as you like without feeling rushed or pressured. The staff was kind and helpful, ready to answer questions or help you find something specific without hovering, which I always appreciate when browsing. I will definitely be going back to The Copper Poppy many, many times in the future, as itâs the kind of store that you could visit repeatedly and still find new treasures every time. Itâs a perfect spot for anyone who loves exploring unique shops with quality items and a welcoming vibe. If youâre in Houghton, you should absolutely stop by The Copper Poppy, but make sure you have a few hours to spare because youâre going to...
Read moreI had a deeply disturbing and cruel experience at this store. While walking by, I saw a group of agitated people trying to kill a bat by beating it with a broom. Besides the illegality of this, as bats are protected, the sheer animal cruelty left me horrified.
When I asked the store owner to stop, she callously told me that if I wanted her to stop, I should take the bat away. I agreed, but as I moved to pick up the bat, she struck it again with the broom. I had to put myself between the lady and the bat to protect it. I know that you should never pick up a bat with your hands, as their wings are very vulnerable, not to mention the risk of rabies. Despite the potential risk to the bat's fragile body, I felt it was necessary to intervene.
What was most haunting about the entire situation was the behavior of the store owner and the group of people. They seemed to find the whole incident amusing and appeared to get gratification from us trying to protect the bat, showing a complete lack of empathy.
I have never felt compelled to write a Google review before, but this experience was so distressing. We also called the Wildlife Services...
Read moreI purchased a wardrobe here that was damaged, with the damage hidden against a wall, and up charged which I didn't realize until I had it home. They were unwilling to remedy the situation in any way. I was excited about this business moving in, and have been left disappointed. It was about $50 more expensive than if we had purchased it new, all around a disappointing venture. As you can see in the image they admit that some of the damage was there when it left, although they are denying it, and when called to ask they also admitted to it. The fact they are now denying it furthers the fact they aren't a good...
