I've seen the truck on the corner of Almeda and OST for a while now and finally decided to give it a try. There wasn't much of a line outside so it didn't take long for me to place my order of the Chicken over Rice (Chicken shawarma over basmati rice, served with pickles and garlic sauce - $8.50). The wait was about 20 minutes and I was a bit surprised at how long it was taking. Come to find out, they're constantly taking and fulfilling phone orders as well. At least I know for next time that I can place an order ahead of time. I was wondering where all the people were coming from and just picking up orders. Despite the wait, my food was delicious when I finally got my order. The chicken was grilled perfectly and the garlic sauce over the rice, pickles, and tomatoes was very flavorful. Also, for $8.50 it's a serving portion that you can easily split between 2 people, unless you're REALLY hungry. So if you decide to swing by, either be ready for a wait if it's during lunch/dinner time, or call ahead. I do prefer this truck over the competition across...

Food handling practice is very unsanitary! Won't be eating here ever again. I ordered the Chicken Arabi. The actual food is mediocre. I suggest trying Gyro King on Almeda and OST or for an even more authentic taste Shawarma King near 59 S and Hillcroft. I ordered my food and the guy started preparing my order. During that time another customer came in and picked up an order. He paid using cash which consisted of several small bills. The employee handled the money with his gloves on. Then immediately went back to handling the food WITHOUT changing the gloves. Just started grabbing fries, knives, wraps etc. He handled my food with these dirty gloves on and proceeded to give it to me. I asked him to prepare my food again and he asked me why. I told him and he started to prepare my order again. Handed it to me and said "Are you happy now?". As though I was wrong for wanting my food prepared, at the very least, cleanly. Lucky I don't call DSHS on this...

I had a very unpleasant experience while picking up a delivery order. I urgently needed to use the restroom — something clearly allowed and expected per policy for drivers. Because of the urgency, I went straight to the restroom before speaking to staff, fully intending to check in immediately afterward.

When I came out, I was met with hostility from a staff member who seemed more concerned about his ego than showing basic human decency. He was visibly upset that I hadn’t “acknowledged” him before using the restroom and admitted he felt disrespected — despite the fact that I was polite and explained the situation calmly.

This kind of attitude toward delivery drivers is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. We’re not second-class citizens — we’re here to do a job, and being treated with hostility for a basic, urgent human need is not something I take lightly. I won’t be in a rush to return or recommend...

I didn’t place the order by phone; just walked up. My order was taken quickly and patiently. Once done, the food was presented hot and plentiful. The lamb/beef wrap was longer than I expected, and the fries were hot and more than I expected. Both tasted fresh and delicious! Good food. Good service. Visited the location on Alameda a few weeks after the first food truck visit. Ordered the keto wrap. I usually pace my meat consumption so that I still have meat at the end of the meal. It’s remarkably difficult to do because most places serve very kettle meat. That’s not the case here. Plenty of protein. More importantly, everything was fresh and delicious. Good service. Great food.

Abu Omar Halal, a Middle Eastern restaurant, has its pros and cons. One of the positives is that they stay open late, which can be convenient for those late-night cravings. However, there are a couple of drawbacks. The price-to-value ratio might not be in their favor, which can make dining there a bit costly for what you get. Additionally, it's unfortunate to hear that the staff doesn't seem to be happy working there, as this can affect the overall dining experience. In summary, Abu Omar Halal offers the convenience of late-night dining, but the pricing and staff demeanor could be areas for improvement to make it a more enjoyable experience for customers.

I love the one on Westheimer best, their meat is seasoned perfectly and supper tender. Also when I ask for my Shawarma NOT to be cut up they dont cut it up. The truck on Almedia while it has equaly great service and flavor they habitually under season their meat, the lamb is chewy and the chicken a bit dry and they keep cutting my sandwich even know I always ask them not to. So I will keep going back and hope they get all the problems worked out. My favorites are the Beef Shawarma and the chicken lamb bowl . Be sure to get hot sauce, tahini and garlic sauce to drizzle over your bowl and or sandwich.
