Blown away by the hot chicken sammy. Iām a big fan of nashville hot chicken, and in Houston, thereās a lot of good places to get some (daveās, main chick, urban bird, etc), but not really great. Atcha though? Best spicy chicken sandwich Iāve ever had. The fillet of chicken was made of incredibly juicy dark meat, fried in the style of taiwanese popcorn chicken, and twice the length of the bun. The spiciness was perfect, you could taste and feel the heat, but it wasnāt overwhelming where snot was flooding out your nose or strong enough to make you tear up. Just perfect in that you had a few sniffles and a light burn in the back of your throat. (I donāt find sriracha that spicy for reference). The brioche bun wasnāt heavily buttered, but had a slight toast to where it maintained its structure even when patted, but easily collapsed when squished for a bite. Underneath the top layer of the bun, was a sauce that felt like spicy mayo, but not quite sure, and the full cup of coleslaw underneath was sweet, supplementing the spice perfectly. The fillet was long enough that if you cut it in half, you could have made a whole other sandwich. Contrary to expectations (from other places), it wasnāt too oily, but because of the dark meat, the juiciness and tenderness of the fillet was second to none. Below the fillet were some sweet dill pickles. They were fresh and cut around 1.5x the thickness of common fast food pickles which is great because it still had a ābiteā to it and wasnāt soggy/floppy. The color wasnāt a dull green and more bright yellow-green. This surprised me the most as the sweetness of the pickles stood out even more because of the spiciness from the fillet. Altogether, the first few bites were incredible and I unfortunately finished the whole sandwich in a scant 6 minutes. If you do buy the hot chicken sammy, I highly recommend you dine in. By the end of the burger, the colelsaw and pickles began to lose their structure but the fillet was still crunchy despite the sauce and moisture from the pickles and coleslaw. Overall 9.8/10. Only drawback was the length of the fillet (pros and cons) in that because I didnāt have a bun or coleslaw or pickles to supplement the rest of the fillet, the spice started getting to me when only the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came here for the first time in July and I just revisited yesterday, I have to say I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer from now on. The service for a fast casual hippie-chic Taiwanese restaurant exceeded my expectations! I ordered a Hot Chicken Sammy (Szechuan Style) only and for some reason the Cashier working the shift misheard me and rang me up for Spicy Popcorn Chicken instead. I didn't pay much attention either to the price difference until someone brought my food to me. When I realized it was not the chicken sammy, I immediately returned it to the counter to see whether there was a mix-up. Turns out she hit the wrong button and undercharged me. The owner himself came out to apologize to me in person and told me they are working on making my Hot Chicken Sammy stat and not to worry about paying extra. Needless to say they are very honest with running their business here and I appreciate their efforts to go above and beyond to ensure I had a good dining experience!
The verdict on the HOT/Spicy Szechuan Chicken Sammy is it's mouthwatering good!! I ate a full serving of popcorn chicken beforehand and I was still drooling when they brought out the Sammy! The heat is actually very mild to my palate, for comparison purposes Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich is definitely spicier.
I've also had the salt and pepper fries before and both the popcorn chicken and fries come with a side of Sriracha Mayo.
The drinks are ok but very expensive in my opinion. I've only had the yakult green tea and it's very refreshing on a hot summer day and pairs well with any of the spicy menu items.
Highly recommend trying out the Hot Chicken Sammy more than anything else!!
One star off because the seating area is very limited in capacity and the vibe here is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis little quaint and chill restuarant/snack bar is nestled in the hustle and bustle of the Bellaire district. Unlike any other place in this area, AtCha is special because it slightly strays away from the traditional tea shops that you may find in the same shopping strip. Sure, you can get a matcha vanilla latte, but you can also get some tasty flavored ginger beers that are seriously to die for (Currently sipping mine slowly because it is that good).
So, Food was absolutely delicous! This weekend they had the Birria Beef Noodle soup and it was just right. I can't handle anything too spicy and this was just perfect. I'm glad I got a chance to try it since it was a special for this weekend only. The flavors match up well and it came out fresh and piping hot, garnished with lime juice and cilantro (lucky I don't have the soap gene). 10/10 would recommend. Hopefully they bring this back and make it a staple on their menu.
The other thing that I absolutely love about this place is the decor! It has such a cool vibe and I love it. From the wall art, the light fixtures and the furniture. This is definitely a nice place to take a break, chill with friends or just read a book. The playlist is awesome too. Friendly workers as well and it is very well kept. If you have a chance, step outside the norm and try this place out. I promise you will be glad you did.
The only thing that really sucks about the location of this spot is the parking. There are a TON of businesses in this shopping area including Great Wall supermarket so peak times are terrible. They do have two...
