Someone recommended East Wall Restaurant to me. So, we decided to give it a try. First, the place was empty, and the order was prepared in a decent amount of time (about 20 minutes). So, the service was prompt. Since we were trying it out for the first time, we ordered staples because if the staple dishes aren't good, then I don't expect much from the specialty dishes. We ordered the house fried rice, orange chicken, pepper steak, eggplant with garlic sauce w/beef, and vegetable and regular egg rolls. The rice had a good flavor, but the rice was very mushy like it was over boiled with too much water. The orange chicken wasn't bad, but didn't wow us. It was just OK. Also, watch out for bones in the meat. I understand that things happen, but there was a very sharp bone in one of the chicken chunks. If I had bitten down at a different angle, it would have punctured underneath my tongue. The pepper steak was bland and had NO FLAVOR, and the meat was slightly chewy. The eggplant dish had a few scraps of beef and was just OK. The vegetable egg roll was very greasy and had an old grease taste. The regular egg roll was just OK and kind of bland. After tip, the total bill was $80. For what we received (the orange chicken was skimpy for the cost and based on flavor, none of the dishes were worth the prices charged), there are much better Chinese restaurants for the money. Two stars because it was $80 for mediocre food. I will pass...
Read moreI was ready to order with a few minutes of getting seated, and at least 5-8 mins passed, when another table was seated. More time passed and I saw our waitress took their order. So I let another waitress take ours. I ordered 2 orders of the pork dumplings, to make sure she understood I asked her to point which ones are they in the picture and sure enough they were the ones I picked out, and the repeated not the shrimp ones. They bring the dumplings out and say shrimp dumplings and I told them no these aren't what I ordered. They take them back and this male staff member comes out yelling "so you didn't order shrimp, what did you order?" I'm so embarrassed which maybe he thought he could intimidate me, and answered "Not shrimp, the pork ones." The waitress comes back and brings the menu n I point to the picture and the name where you can see them on the appetizer part, and she goes oh no shrimp. The original waitress brings out the plates of food and legit keeps passing the food real close to my face to who was sitting next to me. The other food I observe to see if she was going to do the same thing, handles it next to them and places it in front. When she brings another item I had to put my hand in front of my face to block her rude a$$ and she goes over it to keep doing it. F all of them, n this place, the experience was horrible. The food was good but not worth having to...
Read moreEast China Wall was a great dinner out! Service was prompt and attentive, drinks never ran empty. Yet at the same time we weren't bothered by a continual check in. The food didn't come out super fast which gives me the impression that its actually being prepared for us. (some Chinese food places the food comes out before you order it making you wonder?)
The atmosphere was just right. Nicely decorated. And the area was bustling on a Thursday at 8pm. If you can't find parking, there is a garage in the back (Southwest) corner. Lots of people young and old visiting lots of great looking restaurants.
The only negatives would be their menu and web presence. Still a 5 star experience, but I like to go in a bit more prepared than I did. What information they have online seems outdated and extremely minimal. In 2019 its not that hard to have something up. The menu can be a tad hard to navigate for a newbie/non-Chinese reading person. There are randomly placed smallish photos of food, but the photos aren't labeled and I had no clue what dishes they were. I would say 20% of the menu is purely in Chinese, guess those dishes aren't for me? And there are menu items with names that do not help! What is Princess Chicken or Beef with Thousand Cook? A short description goes a long way!
Never the less, we had a great dinner out at East Wall. I highly...
