Me, my mom, and my brother decided to come by bbq tonight for a nice dinner out of the house. My mom and I have had a chance to try the food previously at a party and loved it so we made the plan to come by and try some of the other items on their menu. When we got there, the restaurant despite being fairly busy, was able to seat us immediately. we had a relatively small party but there were also larger groups that were able to get seating without much waiting at all. The atmosphere was lively and casual but not hectic which was very welcoming. The restaurant set a tone that it was for everyone whether you are wearing a suit or pulled up in jogger pants and a hoodie like myself. As soon as we were seated, our waiter Hasan welcomed us and offered us cold water as we looked over the menu. The menu was simple but had many great options and by the time Hasan returned with our drinks, we were ready to order. We had ordered their chicken Karahi, beef nalli pulao, chicken reshmi kabab, beef behari kabab and some naan. We were told the negative was also very good but we did not order it as we had eaten some earlier that day, will def give it a try next time. The wait to get our food was pretty average but felt quick because my family was really enjoying each others company. When our food arrived, it was very fresh and was presented very nicely. Below are my personal ratings on the food:
Karahi 9/10 - the Karahi was recommended to us by our server and let me tell you, he certainly did not dissapoint. the Karahi was very good and I highly recommend ordering this. Flavor was great and not one ingredient over powered the dish. Chicken was well cooked and it was not very greasy either. I did think that the portion size was a bit small but nothing crazy and it certainly did not sully the meal as we had plenty of other items.
Beef nalli pulao 7/10 - I want to start off that I’m not the biggest fan of pulao in general but I do like it from time to time. My family wanted to give it a try and I figured it would pair nicely with the Karahi. I really enjoyed the nalli and with the Karahi it was really good. The nalli was great but the beef boti I thought could be a bit more tender. The flavor of the pulao was light and I believe it could be good to enhance it a bit more. The pulao was presented very nicely and the portion was big. The pulao came with some chutney which I think could use more flavor and more heat in the taste.
Chicken reshmi kabab 9.5/10 - I absolutely love Pakistani bbq and this kabab absolutely hit the spot. It was tender but held together very well and was very well seasoned with a nice smoky flavor too.
Beef behari 9/10- again another favorite of mine. The behari was very flavourful and truthfully tasted better here than when I tried it before. The kabab was packed with flavor but everything was very well balanced.
Naan 10/10 - this was honestly some of the best and freshest naan I have ever had in all of Houston. It was crispy and fluffy and just perfectly fresh. The naan alone deserves a visit back!
During our meal, Hasan was very attentive and took care of all of our needs immediately. He was patient and provided honest insight on the dishes. He made sure to check on us every now and then and made sure we had water on our table without us needing to ask. He was quick to provide us with whatever we needed through out our dining experience. The owner, Ahmed also came out to greet us and had a brief but friendly chat with us before our meal came to our table. Overall my family enjoyed our entire experience here. Everything from the food, atmosphere and service was amazing. We certainly cannot wait for our...
Read moreWe recently dined at BBQ Tonight in Katy, Texas, enticed by the presence of Chef Saadat Siddiqi, a renowned culinary figure. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations.
Upon arrival, we were met with an unwelcoming atmosphere, notably due to a staff member who was both arrogant and rude during the seating process. This lack of hospitality was disappointing, especially considering the premium pricing of the establishment.
The Iftar buffet was priced at $35 per person, with no distinction for children—a practice that felt unfair. The Iftar platter presented a mix of fresh and stale snacks, suggesting some items may have been refried. The dinner buffet mirrored this inconsistency; while the biryani was freshly prepared and flavorful, other dishes like the tangri kebab emitted an unpleasant odor, and the beef Bihari lacked any notable taste.
Given the nearly double pricing compared to other popular Desi restaurants that offer both quality food and commendable service, this experience was unsatisfactory. For those seeking authentic and reasonably priced Desi cuisine, the Hillcroft area in Houston, often referred to as the Mahatma Gandhi District, known for its quality offerings and better value.
In conclusion, while Chef Saadat’s reputation drew us to BBQ Tonight, the overall dining experience was marred by subpar service and inconsistent food quality. I hope the management addresses these concerns to enhance future guest...
Read moreThe Bar.B.Q Tonight Houston grand opening week has brought some serious hype, but how are they doing to deliver on that hype? My experience earlier this week suggests they’re doing some quality work! Yes, some of my fave items being sold out at one of my most highly anticipated dining spots in a long time created a bumpy road for our fam as we first settled in for a slightly late dinner on opening night.
But owner Ahmed and his team did a fantastic job taking full accountability, then serving up the best they could with the available items. It was chaotic enough there to stop me from taking proper pics, so apologies for that. But the gola kebab leftovers I took for the following day can give you some indication of what their texture looks like.
Flavor wise, the BBQ was delicious and mainly the chicken tikka marination stole the show. The marinade goes deep into the tikka and it’s cooked well all the way through! The acclaimed gola kebabs were solid too but I’d advise consuming them super fresh to avoid any potential dryness kicking in later as they cool off...ditto for the puri parathas. Mutton Kunna was on point but sells out fast so you’ve got to get there earlier in the day for that.
Due to the sellout situation, we missed out on Karahi items, Nali pulao, and roghni naans so looking forward to trying them out once the early rush slows down by August. Overall, a thumbs up for their very...
