I had high hopes for Senor Burrito, a local burrito shop that I had been excited to try. However, my visit left me feeling extremely disappointed in several aspects. I ordered a burrito bowl and a gordita, looking forward to a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations in various ways.
First and foremost, the portion size of the burrito bowl was disappointingly small. It left me feeling unsatisfied and wishing for more. Additionally, many of the ingredients in the bowl felt dry and lacked the desired freshness. The temperature of the food was also underwhelming, as it was only lukewarm and failed to deliver the comforting warmth I had hoped for.
The quality of the meat in the burrito bowl was another letdown. It had a taste that indicated it had been cooked well in advance, possibly a day or so before. This resulted in a lack of freshness and flavor that I was anticipating. To make matters worse, the staff chose to reheat the already assembled bowl in the microwave, which only further diminished the quality of the dish.
When it came to the gordita, I was unimpressed with its preparation. Instead of the traditional method I was expecting, it seemed as if two tortillas were simply cut in half and hastily filled with an excessive amount of cheese. This approach lacked the authenticity and attention to detail that I value in Mexican cuisine. It felt like a shortcut rather than a carefully crafted dish, ultimately leaving me unsatisfied.
As someone who appreciates traditional Mexican food cooking, my experience at Senor Burrito felt like a missed opportunity. It left me questioning why I didn't simply make a similar meal at home. The lack of fresh ingredients, poor execution, and overall departure from the flavors and techniques that define authentic Mexican cuisine left me thoroughly disappointed.
While Senor Burrito may have been in business for some time, I believe it is important to provide honest feedback to help them improve. I sincerely hope that they take these criticisms constructively and work towards enhancing their offerings. As a supporter of local businesses, I believe in their potential to provide exceptional dining experiences. However, based on my visit, I cannot recommend Senor Burrito to fellow food enthusiasts seeking an authentic taste of...
Read moreI met efrain shortly after he opened. At this unfortunate time in my life, I am currently homeless, so after o enjoyed my enormous burrito which was only five dollars, I asked if he ever needed any extra help to let me know. He said his business was kind of slow, so he had a sign made to advertise his special of the five dollar burrito from three to six. I immediately accepted his offer of fifteen dollars and a free 🌯 for holding his sign from three to six on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. After the first week we saw the effectiveness of this partnership. I continued to do this for him for a couple of months, and couldn't help but be infected by Efrain's positivity, good nature, and his love of his family, as in the evenings his wife and two daughters come into the shop to eat and spend time with him. This small restaurant definitely displayed a sense of home, comfort, and authenticity. Efrain loves what he does, and it is definitely shown through the quality of the food which is made fresh daily using authentic Mexican recipes. Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city (though I may be a bit biased!). Hint: if you come for breakfast, try the pancakes! And the mango margarita for happy hour is made using real mango is absolutely delicious! He has definitely inspired me to be a better person all around, and I pray he continues to be a light and inspiration while filling the bellies of Houston for many...
Read moreThe lunch special (enchiladas) was stale/sour not cheese/sour. Chicken pieces inside were dry and old. Only when I opened the wrap up did I notice that there were so many large unrecognizable charred bitter pieces hidden inside. They had shooed me to my seat so I would not notice the bean paste being applied. Even the rice was old. I had been very hungry. Nobody here speaks a word of English. There were no other customers and the two employees hid in the back. The coffee I ordered did little to wash down my disgust. The next ten days I was sick both from this food and from over eating other food to remove any element of this meal in my system. I went back to inform them about my experience. They had several employees who were all busy serving customers. Nobody understood a word I said. I wish the health inspector would look into this restaurant. People shouldn't say don't order the special or you get what you pay for. I told them and myself that I would not eat any type of Latin American food again. I have eaten similar foods at food trucks and restaurants where my eyes and face has blown up and/or had severe digestive problems and/or dizzy spells and/or felt nauseous and/or had brain fog. I had started to love tacos when I was in the US Army for many different reasons. They were trying to favor and please certain population groups...
