I read about this restaurant somewhere online and I decided to take my family there and they didn't disappoint. I didn't know what to expect since I had never heard of this place. But as soon as we walked in we were greeted pleasantly. I decided to order the special they have, which is a whole chicken and 3 large side for $25. The sides I ordered were the rice chaufa, sweet plantains, and the house salad. Now, let me tell you, EVERYTHING was made fresh. From the rice, to the plantains, to the chicken, and even the lettuce and tomatoes was so fresh and authentic that I was a little surprised that it was so good. The chicken was tender and juicy and flavorful. The sweet plantains were soft, hot and sweet. I've been to many restaurants that don't serve their sweet plaintains to this level. Their rice was really, really good. Now, I'm not Peruvian, so I can't say whether their rice chaufa, which is a Peruvian specialty, is truly authentic. But it was great. Their salad dressings and sauces where a burst of culinary magic. My wife loved the salad dressing. I believe they have more than one salad dressing, but we chose the house dressing. All the food came out hot, just like as if I was home and eating a home-cooked meal. But I can't say enough about the chicken. It was a nice size chicken, meaty, and so flavorful and juicy. I didn't feel cheated at all. It was all worth the drive and the blind faith of not knowing what to expect. My wife and I will definitely be frequenting this place a lot more often from here on out. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you're looking for something other...
Read moreI used to LOVE me some Chick Houz! My husband and I frequented regularly. The chicken and steak were flavorful and tender and all the sides were immaculate. However, there has been a noticeable shift in quality in the last year or so.
Undoubtedly they have changed their meat supplier. The chicken is rubbery and chewy- I ordered a breast a couple a weeks ago and no joke, I just ended up giving the rest of the chicken to my dog because I couldn’t stomach that it had that slimy texture on it. I also used to get the steak, but stopped getting that completely about a year ago because it was all of a sudden such low quality. I had one piece and my jaw was sore from all the chewing.
This last time my sides were a mess. I got white rice and there were undercooked wet patches and overcooked patches all together? It was bizarre and gross. Clearly they mixed old and new rice or something. And my veggies were undercooked and covered in way too much oil.
Finally the churros we ordered were tore up! Truly inedible from how overcooked they were. We also got the chocolate cake last time and it was DRYYYYY. So devastating because it used to be the highlight of my meal.
Im so sad they’ve gone so downhill! I say this as someone who literally used to go at minimum twice a month for years.
I’m done with them for now. Their food is not cheap- I was willing to pay for it when it was delicious but after the last 4-5 times of being disappointed I’m not wasting my...
Read moreChick Houz is a new Peruvian inspired rotisserie chicken restaurant and much more. I was so trill to try it since there are not that many rotisserie chicken restaurants in the Houston area. The service was great and clean. They followed all the CDC standards of wearing masks and providing hand sanitizers in many places of the restaurants. The staff was welcoming and friendly trying to explain some of the items besides the rotisserie chicken like the lomo saltado bowl, a lo pobre bowl, the churrasco sandwich or the inca power salad. The names of the food items are super clever specially if you have been in Peru or if you are Peruvian like myself. I decided to try the specialty of the Houz and tried the Pollo a la brasa special and it was spectacular. The chicken was not just tender, but also juicy. All the flavors from a traditional pollo a la brasa from Peru were there. It felt like home, specially because of the spicy sauces you get with it. Also, I asked for the traditional french fries, yuca fries and the houz salad and surely all sides were great as well. Lastly, I was surprise they have a nice selection of desserts like tres leches and churros. Surely, I got them too and were a little piece of sweet heaven. Overall, I surely recommend Chick Houz since we should support local talented restaurants bringing bold flavors to town at...
