Don Rey — Restaurant in Houston

Food was alright not exactly hot and was kind of cramped as only one half of the restaurant was open for sitting, host/waitress wasn't the nicest rude attitude and seemed to not want to be there. Been a customer of this location for many years now and I had always been happy to come but in the last couple of years service seems to be going down along with it the quality in which they make their food which I believe if the right staff was hired this restaurant would definitely go back to the way it used to be. Live music and TV is a great way to distract your self while you eat and with complimentary chips and salsa it seems like a promising restaurant however it fails the mark with the actual entrees; took about a good forty minutes to get the food however we sat down right away so no need for a wait list or to have to be sitting around waiting for a table however if this was the case there is only one bench by the door and beign kinda small you'd have to wait at your car. Desserts are offered after you're done so if you have a sweet tooth you'll be pleased to know the pastries are actually really delicious and the Choco-Flan is a must. Sea food seems fresh and they have a wide selection of beer to choose from so no need to go to Galveston for a nice meal as coming here could save you gas and it is definitely more affordable than...

Absolutely repulsive experience. I found two pieces of hair in my food and had to stop eating immediately. To my astonishment, they still charged me for the meal! When I complained, they sent Luis, the manager, who only offered to discount one of my Agua Frescas instead. Adding to the frustration, I had to flag down the waitress just to get a glass of water. This place is a nightmare. Beware – if you decide to come, be prepared for the possibility of finding hair in your food.....As we were walking out, the waitress saw I was writing this and sent over the manager. He came to the table and said "Hey you ate most of the food, so I didn't take it off the bill. I am going to take a picture of your plate and show my owner." Absolutely the worst service I’ve ever experienced. As this was the place of choice for my mother for Mother’s Day. The customer service was by far inexcusable. I spent well over $100 for my order and missing a lot of it on my to go order and instead of refunding what was missing was asked to come back with everything by the Manager Armando. They made a big deal over salsa which I was more than happy to pay $15 extra for which I did. Armado the manager was not empathetic to the situation. It really did not make sense to ruin my Mother’s Day for them not to credit the missing tacos which was no fault of my own and have me drive all the way back to the restaurant to return it all. I understand the place was busy but so was Pappasito’s where I ended up going and was 100% satisfied with their service and food quality. It just doesn’t compare. I will never come to Don Rey again.
