Drunken Pho offers a very good Vietnamese dining experience which I would rate at 4.5 stars if Google Maps provided this capability.
Most of the elements of the pho, their principal dish, are tasty, fresh and overall excellent. These include the rice noodles, the tender meat slices, the spongy meatballs, crisp and plentiful bean sprouts, flavorful basil leaves, and moderately spicy jalapeño slices. Unfortunately, the broth is a bit bland for my taste. I had to add more hoisin sauce and sriracha than I usually do with my pho to bring the soup to the flavor and spiciness that I prefer.
The egg rolls were served fresh out of the fryer and were warm, crunchy, non oily and tasty; but I did find the outer crust to be a bit thick and therefore slightly masking the taste of the yummy inside content.
The service was prompt and friendly. We were served about 10 minutes after ordering. Comfortable counter top seating that looks inward on the kitchen and the food preparation provides an enjoyable dining atmosphere.
The location in Bravery Chef Hall off Preston on the southwest side of the intersection of Preston and Travis is a short walk away for downtown workers. However, if you are driving from other parts of Houston, nearby parking is scarce.
The total cost for two bowls of pho, egg-rolls, one Thai tea, one bottle of water, and tip came In around $40. (Oh, I fondly remember the days when a filling bowl of pho could be obtained for $5.). At today’s pricing, this is going to be one of your more reasonably priced options for eating downtown but you may be inclined to reduce your visits to no more than a couple of...
Read moreWe came in with high expectations 2/7/2025. Maybe that's our fault? We were looking for a new pho place and this showed up on our map. We got there and noticed 2 other customers. No one ordered the pho. Didn't think about that until afterwards. One gentleman who took our order was nice. Welcomes us and we sat down. Ordered two pho, Spring roll, and 1 banh mi to share.
We noticed 1 individual handling and cutting meat. Yes she's wearing glove. But she has a bracelet that just dangles all the way out. It rubs unto everything.... uncooked meats she's cutting.... omg... I try to look the other way..... we get our pho... not what I expected at all.... it was just onion water..... no broth. No other flavor but onion and water... now I'm no chef but pho is supposed to have at least other flavors and spices... disgusting. No matter how much sauce or even fish sauce we add... no hope. We then get our spring rolls.. mediocre... the banh mi came and was only decent thing to eat. (Customers there only ordered the sandwich. I see why now...
After all that said and done.... the damage for just usn2 was $61 dollars. Wtf... so ya. We won't be...
Read moreI have ALWAYS liked this place when they were at Railyard but quite honestly, $13 to $16 for a bowl of Pho is out of control. Its just basically unrealistic. Pho was never meant to be expensive; it's street food from Vietnam that sells for 55 to 90 dong in that country ($1.65)
The problem is that Great restaurants, like this one, move into such high rent places that they have to sell a TON of eggs rolls and pho OR price things so Ridiculous to cover their overhead. This pho is Delicious, don't get it wrong; they know what they are doing and how to make it.
If you work downtown and are Stuck there all day and have no other choice but to pay $14 or $15 (pre-tax); or if you over pay for rent at market square garbage (towers), then that is that but for folks like us that used to support them at Railyard and didn't have to find parking and deal with the Wonderful homeless community, that chapter is closed. Great luck to them bc it truly is so Good.
Thanks...
