I am currently staying at the Moxy Hotel in downtown Houston for a four-night business trip (February 12-16, 2025). If I could give this hotel zero stars, I would. This has been one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had, and I strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere. Marriott, you need to seriously reconsider your association with this property.
I booked a double-queen room, and while it appeared clean on the surface, a closer look revealed significant issues. Stained sheets were a disturbing discovery, and the bathroom wasn't much better, with hair on the towels and a faucet that feels like it's about to detach. The "view" from my windows is laughable. One window overlooks the interior stairwell, offering a less-than-inspiring glimpse of people exiting the building. The other window offers a measly two-foot sliver of actual exterior view; the rest is blocked by adjacent buildings. The room lacks essential amenities for a business traveler: no closet, no iron, no ironing board, and no work desk. The lighting fixtures on the bed are loose and look like they're about to fall apart. The "decor" consists of unframed posters clipped to the wall – the kind you'd expect to see in a teenager's room, not a business hotel. The loud music blasting from the adjacent bar is a major disturbance. At 11:21 PM on a Thursday, I can clearly hear the lyrics of the songs vibrating through the walls, making it impossible to relax or get any work done. This noise pollution is unacceptable. This hotel offers absolutely no value for money. The condition of the room, the lack of amenities, and the constant noise make it a complete rip-off. My stay at the Moxy Hotel has been a nightmare. The room is poorly maintained, lacks essential amenities, and offers no peace and quiet. The noise from the neighboring bar is a significant issue. I cannot stress enough how strongly I recommend avoiding this hotel. Marriott should be ashamed to have their name associated with such a substandard property. Do yourself a favor and...
Read moreJust my two cents… Let me start with saying that I travel nine months of the year. I do not get to pick where I must stay during my travels as it is set up by the company. With that being said, I like to give an honest and fair review, with the knowledge that I did not spend my own money on the accommodations. Therefore, I have nothing to gain or lose from my opinions. I have stayed a current total of 80 nights with the Marriott Chain. The Moxy Hotel Downton Houston is a unique hotel. The accommodations are basic. I had a Standard King Room on the corner. The beds are decent, nothing amazing. The rooms do not have fridges or microwaves. No closets. Ice must be retrieved from the front desk/bar. (Yes it’s one and the same) There is a microwave in the lobby. The staff are very friendly. I do like the cabinets on each floor that are stocked with essentials to take as you need. The Walls are paper thin. I heard my neighbors having sexual relations for hours. (Good for them, but damn did it keep me awake!) The hotel is located next to several nightclubs and bars. The music from the outside if very loud. Each room comes with sound machines and ear plugs with a note from the hotel saying “To help get a good night’s rest, turn off the sound of the city with these complimentary ear plugs. In addition, please feel free to utilize the white noise machine for added comfort”. The hotel “lobby” also plays very loud music at all times. The area can be a bit sketchy. I witnessed several inappropriate events on the streets during my week long stay. This hotel is not for anyone looking to get a good nights sleep, especially if the outside noise is a factor for you. Not everyone can sleep with white noise or earplugs (Me) so if that is something you can’t get around, I’d look elsewhere. This would be Marriott’s Select brand with the likes of Fairfield Inn, Springhill Suites, and Courtyards. This is NOT the Luxury brand as listed in...
Read moreThere’s so much good to say about this place! This place is a petite venue full of vibrant vibes! Right in downtown with proximity to nice restaurants and bars. Hotel location is APT! There’s just right enough things to do, starting with the neon lights at the entrance to being greeted by Brian the Barista - was delighted to have his world famous The Brian coffee, just perfect at any time of the day! He explained about the history of this building and showed us around. Lobby area, elevators, hallways and room were all clean and neat. It always felt fresh, be it any time of the day. I loved how they have a nice touch of welcoming on the mirrors of elevator and vanity. Was there with 2 other friends of mine and we had such a comfortable stay. Honestly, it was my first time at a Moxy but I must say the people here are GEM! Nelly, the housekeeping manager was sooo lovely, she was super friendly and made sure all our requests were answered in time. Love her, would definitely be back to experience this kind of hospitality. She went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and best! I was back in Houston after a year and she made it feel like home here. They restocked their shelf everyday by the elevator to make sure extra towels were there when required. The rooms were well lit, the gym was good enough and their pretty M lounge was perfect for work. It’s been a while since I have seen such clean rooms, housekeeping was top notch! Thanks to Mirna for all the tidy work. Met the GM by the lobby area, was such a nice gentleman! Overall 10 on 10. Not to forget, Ramon the public area attendant was always seen doing his job dedicatedly with all his efforts in and a ever green smile on his face. Valet was kind enough to help with bags! Preserve these gems! Missed the party by the bar but we will definitely be back the next time we are Houston. Thanks Moxy was this amazing stay!!! Thanks...
