Fainmous BBQ — Restaurant in Houston

I finally came, saw, and ate Tennessee style BBQ! My sister and I visited on Friday afternoon, just after the lunch rush, so I'm not sure if what I experienced is a direct result of this, but I have to stay true to my experience.

So, my sister and I were the only two in the restaurant for our entire hour there, aside from to women, one if which was dressed in cook attire, so we assumed she worked there.

My sister ordered a lean, sliced brisket sandwich plate, with green beans, and macaroni and cheese, plus spicy BBQ sauce. I ordered the two meat plate which included lean sliced brisket, pulled chicken, baked beans, green beans, and spicy BBQ sauce. I also ordered a lemonade, which I was told was made in-house.

My sister and I both wanted the Pineapple Tea, but they didn't have any. Boooo!

Note: I usually order sausage with my two meat plates at any BBQ place I visit, but Fainmous only makes pork sausage. Thumbs down for that, even if it's a Tenessee thing! It only allows me to top my review off at three starts. Sorry.

We were both feeling the taste of the brisket with the spicy BBQ sauce. I don't know if it's a plus or minus, but the spicy BBQ sauce was merely sauce with crushed pepper flakes in it. It was defintely different. What I wasn't feeling was the fact that we ordered lean brisket, but I wound up peeling off a good amount of fat and leaving it piled on my plate. I respect how other people feel about fat when it comes to brisket, but I don't like fat on mine. Apparently the person preparing my plate thought that he could change my mind. Go figure! The lemonade was pretty good, too, and it was served in an old school mason jar. Nice touch!

Overall, the food was pretty good. I wasn't blown over by it, but I had a good experience, especially since one of the two other people in the restaurant was the co-owner, Karen Fain - wife of James Fain (hence the name, "Fainmous"), who engaged us in conversation while we ate. She gave us the history behind Tennessee BBQ.

Great BBQ and great people. James and Karen are so friendly. I came in after work. Ordered a bunch of meat by the pound. The Big Guy that works in the back came out and showed me the brisket. He told me the meat was so moist and soft it was not slicing. He asked me if I wanted him to try to cut some other brisket so I could get slices. HECK NO...give me the melt in your mouth brisket. Get in my belly!!! The coleslaw was really good. It was not shredded up like I was used too. Must be the Tennessee style. I put the extra leftover meat into several freezer bags. Next week when I am running out the door for work, I'll grab a frozen meat bag and an apple for my lunch. Lastly, I used Google directions to get here. I was coming from Bellaire. Google directions had me turn in behind Kroger and said "You have arrived at your destination". Fainmous is just South of the Kroger and What-a-Burger tucked in the corner of a strip center. This was my first experience with Fainmous BBQ and I’m so glad I researched and found such a gem. There aren’t enough words to express my satisfaction and gratitude for the impeccable service bestowed upon me and my colleagues.

We are a small team of 8 and I believe that we’re all food connoisseurs, well at least WE think so 😂. I wish I could’ve shared photos of our dishes but by the time I realized it, everyone’s food was gone!

I placed our order online and asked that each team called several times and left messages to make sure I knew that there would be slight changes to our order. She was patient yet diligent and relentless, lol. I was finally able to return her call and she informed me of the subsequent changes which were no big deal.

Our food arrived on time and nice and hot. Needless to say, we were all quite pleased. Even though we didn’t dine in the restaurant, I had to give them what I personally feel they earned…5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!!! Now it’s time to schedule a mom and son lunch date at our new spot 😊.
