It took me 6 months to try Fusion after moving to the Heights. I am a taco 'purist' and the menu scared me off with its wild range of options. Chicken tikka tacos? Tuna poke tacos? FALAFEL TACOS??! All on the same men? Ooof!
Well, since I live so close and saw so many good reviews, I caved because I really love shrimp tempura tacos (and El Rey stopped serving them - why?) so that was my first taste of Fusion. And holy moly they were so good! I love the ginger slaw they're topped with (and I don't like ginger) and the corn tortillas were fresh and sturdy, but still delicate.
I've since tried a lot of other items and have become a regular, either dining in or ordering to-go 1x a week on average. The free margarita w/ every $10 on take out orders definitely is a nice perk!
So what's good? Everything I've tried so far. My only tiny disappointment was the brisket in the brisket taco needed a tad more seasoning and/or salt. But the salsa verde it comes with is fantastic!
I love the tuna poke and how the thin, crisp taco shell makes it a lovely vessel. The shrimp tempura with a heaping mound of slaw on top is so good. The grilled red fish with the pile of lovely red cabbage slaw is delicious and makes me feel good after eating it. The queso - the steak nachos and quesadillas... worth the calories.
Great guacamole I don't even need to add lime to. The chips are perfect - thick like totopos. My friend let me try her falafel and I was really surprised they nailed that too!
Everything tastes fresh and while there are several different cuisines represented, the ingredients all 'stay in their own lane' and compliment each other perfectly. The frozen ritas, Watermelon rita and Paloma are excellent.
Service is super fast, the staff are kind, and the restaurant feels clean. I'm making up for the lost 6 months I could have been eating there and only wish I'd...
Read moreAVOID THIS PLACE. There are better places in Norhill/Monti Beach area. Went here to meet friends. The atmosphere is awful. Too loud and a sensory nightmare, plus the menu is way too small to read for those with severe visual impairments, plus the dining room area is too narrow and hard to maneuver when you use a wheelchair. Would never come here again. Wanted to try the food but couldn't see the menu, and it's not available on their website.
Edit #1 Asked verbally about items on the menu. Ordered chips and salsa, and the chips were awful. Worst chips I have ever had. The store brand tortilla chips at the grocery store are so much better than this junk.
Edit 2: The Manager, who refused to identify himself, and a female staff member in a yellow shirt were very rude, claiming I was rude for speaking out against how awful the restaurant and food were, like they couldn't take criticism of how awful they are. I don't sugarcoat and speak the truth, and they couldn't handle it.
The manager offered a refund and quickly rescinded it. He said I was trespassed from the store. He even threatened to call the cops. I left after that. AVOID this place like the plague. The city needs to shut...
Read moreFood was delicious. So why the 3 stars? The cashier was rude. I realize it was a busy night and there was a line, however, when it was my turn, I quickly ordered my two tacos and then I said I wanted queso and if he had a favorite. He cut me off before I could finish asking and said “No, I don’t”. It was his tone of voice that was rude and the fact that he cut me off. I could sense that I annoyed him with that question. I stopped myself from telling him anything and quickly chose whatever. Food came out and it was great. Corn taco was amazing!! It was extremely hard to find seating and parking was complicated. I’d still come back here because it was that good, however, maybe on a less busier night when I can get friendlier and more welcoming service. I won’t be back on a Tuesday night.
The people clearing out plates from the table were actually really friendly. Just not that moody cashier guy. It’s hard to believe he doesn’t know the food that is being sold there and has zero recommendations. If that was my restaurant, I would not tolerate rude...
