This review is strictly to raise awareness for parents who suspect their child is on the spectrum.
My three-year-old has level 2 autism and was terminated from GHS a few months ago. Although, I didn’t have a formal diagnosis prior to him getting kicked out, I did vocalize my concerns to his caretakers. Aside from being on the spectrum, he also has a speech delay hindering him to communicate effectively.
This often resulted in difficult behavior on his behalf which I knew was a problem for the staff. There were many instances at pickup time where I’d find him strapped onto a high chair. This became a method they followed to get him to stay in place and not bother other children or interrupt the lessons.
For a mother who was aware of his child’s learning and behavioral challenges, seeing how my son was struggling, along with the combination of feeling helpless for not knowing how to help him, on top of receiving 2-3 formal complaints on a weekly basis about his behavior, took an emotional toll on me.
I understand a daycare is a business and there are waitlists, but I just wished GHS would have handled things differently. It truly saddened me to see how his caretakers found my son’s presence an inconvenience to them; using dumb excuses to write him up to eventually kick him out.
At the end of the day, I realize that this wasn’t the best place for my son to excel. Although him getting kicked out was a very painful experience (mostly for me), I do hope you reconsider choosing this place if your child does have a speech delay or...
Read moreWe are so grateful for our time at Greater Heights School and truly miss the amazing staff and teachers who made such a positive impact on our children. Our two kids had the privilege of attending GHS, with our second child experiencing the wonderful new facilities, which are truly top-notch.
Each day, our children were always so happy when we picked them up, and while it was a bit emotional when they transitioned to each new level, they quickly formed strong connections with their new teachers and friends. We loved seeing how much care and effort the teachers put into creating engaging activities like crafts, teaching songs, creating assignments in their workbooks, and themed weeks that the kids thoroughly enjoyed - especially camping week :)
A few additional perks we appreciated at the new location were the opportunity to sign up for Soccer Shots during the school day and the option for daily lunches (at no extra cost). It was also so reassuring that the staff knew our kids by name, and we really valued their 6:30-6 pm drop off/pick up hours on days when we had meetings or other commitments. Finding that flexibility at other places was a challenge, but it was so convenient at GHS.
Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience for our children. The provided a warm and safe place for our children during their formative years, and we will always be grateful for the loving and supportive environment at Greater...
Read moreWe as parents cant thank enough these lovely teachers and directors of GHS. This is just not a day care but it is the second home for kids. Teachers here go above and beyond to give their best possible efforts. They don't do this just for duty sake but they get so emotionally attached to the kids and shower love to them full and open hearted. My daughter has been going to this school since she was 6 months old and she loves the school and the teachers so much that she would not want to leave the fun every evening when i go pick her up. Teachers and directors are so much responsive to all your requests starting from feeding items, change of preferred clothes, dressing up the kid, teaching kids to become bilingual and what not. If there is one reason that we would not want to move anywhere else in Houston, that would be this day care. I wish and hope they start after school care as well so that we will be forever associated with this center. The most important thing you want for a kid is SAFETY and they are the best when it comes to that. We feel so safe and secured to leave our kid here and just not worry about crying or tantrums because you would only see happy babies' face in this center. Trust me! Thank you GHS with your phenomenal service and good luck for many...
