You know when you're on vacation and eat at a bakery/Cafe and say, "I wish we had places like this." Well this is that place non Houstonians will say when they visit.
This place is what I've been waiting for, for decades of being here. It's cozy, welcoming, authentic, and absolutely delicious. Every item you see is thoughtfully curated and truly exhibits a vision of local, pure, great ingredients that are showcased how Jane wanted it to be (I'm assuming).
I went on a Monday morning around 10am, it wasn't crowded but had a steady amount of people. I wanted to avoid any rush. The guys at the front, Max and Aaron (on coffee) have such beautiful and kind souls. They helped so graciously with every question and order.
Soon I will not have the leisure to go at this time and still have to join the busy weekend crowds, but I can assure you and remind myself that whatever wait there may be, it is absolutely worth it.
Rooting for this place to be a forever Houston staple.
Items ordered: breakfast sandwich + bacon (definitely getting again, especially on the go) the local hash (lots of onions and flavor) sour milk biscuit (incredibly flaky and perfect) pretzel (comes with a side of mustard, has a firm shell but softer on the inside) half order focaccia (so flavorful, so good) duffin (worth it. Eat it with a warm cup of coffee as you nestle...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy breakfast was alright. The bread was very good. The pickled items were a confusing and annoying addition. The eggs, scrambled, were too āwetā. Eventually the egg runoff mixed with maple runoff, and I had soupy maple eggs. The cheese was good, but odd being served as blocks for a breakfast plate. The salad covered half the eggs, changed their temperature, and is probably party why they were wet eggs. The salad dressingās taste made me shiver, not in a good way. One bite and done.
Their window seating is a joke altogether.
Their use of floor space for seating is very poorly planned. A lot of available space is wasted. The tables are too high for the seats, and too large for just 1-2 people. Clunky furniture crowds the limited space. The music volume is high. Alone itās ok, but any crowd has to raise their voices to speak over itā¦that gets real loud.
The station for water, napkins, and straws is so unnoticeable, I passed it three time before asking where such a station may be.
The place is cute, but it feels like someone put more thought into looks rather than any practical use, hipness over pragmatism.
If they work out their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI noticed this place a couple of weeks ago and oddly enough I decided to try it on a Tuesday (closed). Today, I went into the charming tucked away spot. I order the first thing on the menu, to go. I walked to the park and ENJOYED it! The eggs were scrambled to that perfect middle not hard but not sloppy, the pork sausage isn't too sweet with the maple. They also have a vegetarian/vegan option. The pickled onions and pickles on the side are a treat! (Have to be homemade)š The bread is delicious. The amount of food is abundant. I made a sandwich to snack on later. I mean SANDWICH(!) the micro green salad, pepper jack cheese cubes(?)etc... completed it(after I was full and lethargic.) I've been in the service industry for 24 years. Generally a spot that's only 2 months old has some i's to dot and t's to cross. This place is sweet! Literally in all ways. The location/parking/service/products/"cleanliness, kindliness, and timelyness. Oh I also went in at around 11:30 am. I'll try their coffee Wednesday. Thank you Jane & all the Lions! š¤ā¤ļøāš„ -Eve P.S....
