I chose Granger’s to celebrate my anniversary with my wife on June 18, 2025, hoping to try a new spot in town and create a memorable evening. We had a 7:30pm reservation, and I had left a note asking if they could do something simple—maybe a message on a dessert or basic decorations—to acknowledge the occasion. I even offered to pay if needed and asked for a call to discuss options. Unfortunately, there was no response and nothing prepared when we arrived. It was disheartening, especially since the restaurant wasn’t busy. Most of the tables were empty.
Adding to the disappointment, even though they knew it was our anniversary, we were seated at a table right next to the kitchen entry, tucked in a dim corner. For a nearly empty dining room, this felt careless. First impressions matter—especially for new customers. We requested to be moved to a brighter area with the turquoise seating, which they accommodated, but the initial gesture left a sour note.
Now, to be fair—the food was good. It lived up to the expectations for a restaurant in the $50–$100 per person range. But that’s the baseline; for that price point, excellent food is expected. What wasn’t expected was finding a produce sticker on a sliced apple in my wife's $26 chopped chicken salad. We didn’t make a scene—she was hungry after waiting nearly an hour for our entrées. She simply placed the slice aside and waited for the server to notice and respond.
He didn’t. No apology, no acknowledgment, no effort to alert the kitchen or manager.
When I politely brought it up at the end of the meal, the waiter finally informed the manager. But even then, the manager never came to speak with us or offer a sincere apology. Instead, we received a 25% discount on just the salad. Frankly, it felt dismissive.
This experience was underwhelming, and I won’t be recommending Granger’s. While the food has potential, a truly great restaurant delivers more than flavor—it cares about service, details, and how it makes guests feel. On a night that should’ve felt special, it felt like we were just another table to get through. Sadly, we left feeling let down. Next time, I’ll be going to...
Read moreMan where to begin! I went to this place with my wife after the museum. Randomly seen it on my google maps. I picked it because it was walking distance but nothing could have prepared me for the experience!
The ambience as you walk through the doors, the decor, friendliness and the cleanliness are all very apparent. We were sat and got our drinks, after a chat with our waiter he mentioned that the restaurant was fairly new but that we would definitely be back after we tried the food. We started with some crab hush puppies and wings and that on itself set the bar high for the food. The flavors were explosive and gave a good umami taste! The hush puppies and wings were phenomenal! I then ordered the meatloaf (sounds basic but not here) the flavor as described by the waiter (not sweet like a typical meatloaf, Savory instead) and that it was. The flavors and presentation were worthy of a royal meal. My wife got the Salmon Pasta and man let me tell you something! Those flavors disturbed my palette and awaken my savory glands. A flavor like no other for sure. The choice of sauce is the absolute-best for this dish. It started as her dish and ended as my dish.
Then to top it off we ordered the bread pudding (capirotada) Trust me when i say i have been to many many of the top restaurants in houston and i always try the bread pudding as it is my favorite desert but 90% of the time it disappoints me because of the lack of flavors or because of how dry and weak it is. They serve it with a white bourbon sauce which i would say they do put a bunch around the plate, you really dont need much at all. But the Bread pudding was delicious and exceptional as well. It is very hard to find a restaurant that does the menu right from appetizers to on-tray to deserts but this place is definitely a Gem!
The waiter was definitely right, we definitely will be back. Best meal i have had in a while at a good restaurant and i got the Meatloaf, i would have never thought to have said that with meatloaf.
Give this place a try and i promise you will NOT be disappointed at all! I wish i had taken pictures but i forgot about everything when my food...
Read moreBefore I give this review I'd like to preface it with this - I have eaten at many AMAZING restaurants so my bar is high. Now, the food & service were a solid 3... average for this type of restaurant. It wasn't a memorable menu unfortunately. We were seated at a high table between the bar and kitchen and it was noisy, lots of traffic, and considering the close proximity to both bar & kitchen, you'd think service would be efficient but it was also lacking. The table: I am a short woman. This table came to my neck when standing next to it, seated in the booth side of the table, my feet had nothing to rest on (just dangled) and any glass with a stem blocked the view of the other guests at my table. So here's something that was...odd - I ordered a cocktail that came in a stemmed glass, when I realized how it was impossible to see my friends, I asked if they could pour it into something without a stem (and I explained my request so I didn't seem like a weirdo taking my beautiful cocktail - and it was beautiful - and putting it into something not beautiful). They said sure took it away, and brought it back to me in a short whisky glass - the size difference of the glass was about 6oz so I lost that part of the cocktail leaving me with the soda it was topped with and none of the base that didn't fit into the glass. Bummer. But it gets better...I order another one, so I can have the whole cocktail this time and the server brings me a completely different drink and said this one is much better. LOL It wasn't. So needless to say I paid for two overpriced cocktails that I didn't drink - the first of which was outstanding and I was really disappointed in how that went down and the second I didn't order but was decided for me by the server. Overall not unpleasant, the restaurant is trendy and the food was good but nothing memorable the bar has magic if you get it the way it comes and if you're short, insist on the low tables. We can check Granger's off the list, not enough interest after the first visit to...
