The food quality in this place is "hit and miss"! I normally get the shrimp creole sandwich and fries. The first few times that I went, it was so good and well-prepared, that I was literally sopping whatever juice was left from it. However, the last 4 times I've gone it was just a step above something like what Arby's would do if they attempted to make a shrimp sandwich. The bread was cold and thick as if it was put on the grill for all of 5 seconds; and the shrimp was small, tight, and gummy. And they charged $5 and some change for a CUP of gumbo that had 2 shrimp the size of a Cocoa Puff, 1...........that's right; "1" coin of sausage, and about 7 tops of the cut okra in it. Thank goodness for the shredded chicken throughout.
And maybe, just maybe, I would still be willing to overlook the "sometimey" food quality if the customer service wasn't perpetually so atrocious. Sometimes I half expect to be greeted and treated poorly in a "franchise" establishment (just the way things are nowadays), but I am truly bothered when I "look" like most of the people who work there, and you half-a** ask me "what do I want"....and the very next "lighter-skinned" person that walks in is greeted with a very friendly and welcoming "HELLO" from dang near everyone in the establishment. This has happened more than half the times that I patronize this place. I'm not one to ever look for special treatment, but it would sure be nice to be treated equally with other customers and not treated like I'm the abusive baby daddy or the drunk cousin nobody wants around at the family reunion. But at least THIS TIME, the guy that I see the most whenever I'm in there told me to have a nice day, which was a first. Please take this post and grow from it employers and employees of Gumbo Jeaux's. Because this "repeated" poor service may cause you to lose some customers that could be very loyal.

Irritated customer

She was very nice and very concerned with the experience I had and offered to buy me lunch at my convenience. I hope they the can instill this type of customer service attitude in their employees, things like this would then be a non-issue. I've brought the rating up to 3 stars for this. Hopefully I can visit them again and leave a better rating.
I've been eating at this restaurant since it opened and I'm sorry to say today was the last time I will ever go in there. It's been about 6 months since I've eaten there as my job has kept me away. Finally got back to this area and had the chance to go there for a late lunch. I don't recognize any of the employees except who I believe is the head chef at this location now because I remember when he started there so the business may have changed hands. The person that was at the grill was not the one that cooked my meal the last time I ate there. Their blackened catfish use to be great. Light and flaky, the only utensil you needed was a spoon. I wish I had taken a picture of what I received but I was so appalled at what they served me I didn't think about it. The outside of the catfish was so crusty I couldn't even cut it with the plastic knife. I returned it to them and explained what was wrong and the gentleman at the grill proceeded to argue with me. I politely asked for a refund and left.
Had the cook not argued with me, I may have let them remake it and try to redeem themselves but when I send food back and then the employees argue with me that's where I...
Read moreMy experience was sub-par. When I entered the whole staff greeted me. That was fine. I got ready to order and they were ALL playing, talking loudly and one lady was even cursing. I don't mind having a good time at work but please know when to chill and be professional. I ordered the Catfish Opelousas. It comes with grilled Catfish on a bed of dirty rice topped with etoufee sauce and mixed veggies and fried shrimp for 13.50. For that amount I expect to get a good plate of food. The veggies were a mosh posh of mush. The etoufee sauce was clumps of flour. I asked the cook what was going on with it and he told me the manager must have added flour after he made it yesterday. From the reviews I read before visiting this place I thought the food would be awesome. I was wrong. It was highly seasoned (I love and cook with seasoning). The seasoning was just too much. The dirty rice was ok but taste like something out of a box. Ordered a $3 drink got to the sweet tea and it was out. I asked a lady about some. Eventually she came and brewed it and did not follow up to add sugar in the time I was there. Tried pouring pink lemonade and it came out regular (yellow). All I could do was shake my head at the whole experience. The cashier was rude to multiple customers while I was there. I'm wondering how she still has a job. It might be because she is cute. 🤷♀️ In all I think I would visit again but at a different location because everyone can't be wrong about the...
