The reviews were spot on about the food and atmosphere. Hotel staff recommended this as one of the few restaurants in the area that was hotel restaurants. The menu is pretty simple, and I went with the fish and shrimp.. they butterfly the shrimp, and it is throughly battered and fried. Catfish batter with same seasoning and cooked to a crispy outside. A little salty, but that is how I like it. Fries were nothing special and not worth the carbs. As for the interior of the place. I'm not sure how they even pass a food inspection. Tables are so sticky I used a dozen paper towels on it to keep from touching it Booths were so worn that the upholstery was cracked and sticky as well. Music playing I the background is very load that it is hard to have a conversation Air condition duct work not connected and just hanging g over your head. Sign over half the drink machine was out of order. Thank goodness for bottled drinks from the refrigerator. Once and done for me.

I would recommend this location for a lunch time visit. I came by this location as a result of a recommendation from the local hotel. We walked to this location and found the restaurant with a few people already seated inside eating...a good sign since it was lunch time. We immediately located the specials and the menu. A worker at the register spoke with us about the options available. We selected our lunch items and sat at a table to wait for our order number to be called out. We received the food hot and inspected out containers to see which one is our designated meal. I selected the fish with red beans and rice. My spouse selected the chicken and sweet potato fries. Both meals were great and on time. The workers were capable and worked well to get our order out. The line cook was outside on break and inquired if everything was ok. We said yes and we were happy to see the follow up by the worker/owner/interested party.

I had called in a order on 6/6/22 around 7:26 pm, and I had ordered 2 boudian links one with a side and one without. I asked if they can make it crispy like cook it a lil longer .....well when i get there was two young men snickering and laughing. At the time I didn't think nothing of it ...BECAUSE IM ON MY 30MIN LUNCH BREAK , (this would have been my 1st meal of my day that day) .......but when I go to open my boudian link I saw it under cooked I was disgusted. When I got back to work I asked my pregnant friend what hers looked like and it looked just like mines...... and why would yall play with people's food and lives because you don't know what uncooked food can do to a person......and they dont need to be there if they can't honor a simple request they could have at least fully cooked it....I want a refund im bringing it back today

The food quality in this place is "hit and miss"! I normally get the shrimp creole sandwich and fries. The first few times that I went, it was so good and well-prepared, that I was literally sopping whatever juice was left from it. However, the last 4 times I've gone it was just a step above something like what Arby's would do if they attempted to make a shrimp sandwich. The bread was cold and thick as if it was put on the grill for all of 5 seconds; and the shrimp was small, tight, and gummy. And they charged $5 and some change for a CUP of gumbo that had 2 shrimp the size of a Cocoa Puff, 1...........that's right; "1" coin of sausage, and about 7 tops of the cut okra in it. Thank goodness for the shredded chicken throughout.

And maybe, just maybe, I would still be willing to overlook the "sometimey" food quality if the customer service wasn't perpetually so atrocious. Sometimes I half expect to be greeted and treated poorly in a "franchise" establishment (just the way things are nowadays), but I am truly bothered when I "look" like most of the people who work there, and you half-a** ask me "what do I want"....and the very next "lighter-skinned" person that walks in is greeted with a very friendly and welcoming "HELLO" from dang near everyone in the establishment. This has happened more than half the times that I patronize this place. I'm not one to ever look for special treatment, but it would sure be nice to be treated equally with other customers and not treated like I'm the abusive baby daddy or the drunk cousin nobody wants around at the family reunion. But at least THIS TIME, the guy that I see the most whenever I'm in there told me to have a nice day, which was a first. Please take this post and grow from it employers and employees of Gumbo Jeaux's. Because this "repeated" poor service may cause you to lose some customers that could be very loyal.

Regards,

Irritated customer

Update... I pulled up Gumbo Jeaux's website and sent this review to them and received a call from one of the owners shortly after. She was very nice and very concerned with the experience I had and offered to buy me lunch at my convenience. I hope they the can instill this type of customer service attitude in their employees, things like this would then be a non-issue. I've brought the rating up to 3 stars for this. Hopefully I can visit them again and leave a better rating.

I've been eating at this restaurant since it opened and I'm sorry to say today was the last time I will ever go in there. It's been about 6 months since I've eaten there as my job has kept me away. Finally got back to this area and had the chance to go there for a late lunch. I don't recognize any of the employees except who I believe is the head chef at this location now because I remember when he started there so the business may have changed hands. The person that was at the grill was not the one that cooked my meal the last time I ate there. Their blackened catfish use to be great. Light and flaky, the only utensil you needed was a spoon. I wish I had taken a picture of what I received but I was so appalled at what they served me I didn't think about it. The outside of the catfish was so crusty I couldn't even cut it with the plastic knife. I returned it to them and explained what was wrong and the gentleman at the grill proceeded to argue with me. I politely asked for a refund and left.

Had the cook not argued with me, I may have let them remake it and try to redeem themselves but when I send food back and then the employees argue with me that's where I...

My experience was sub-par. When I entered the whole staff greeted me. That was fine. I got ready to order and they were ALL playing, talking loudly and one lady was even cursing. I don't mind having a good time at work but please know when to chill and be professional. I ordered the Catfish Opelousas. It comes with grilled Catfish on a bed of dirty rice topped with etoufee sauce and mixed veggies and fried shrimp for 13.50. For that amount I expect to get a good plate of food. The veggies were a mosh posh of mush. The etoufee sauce was clumps of flour. I asked the cook what was going on with it and he told me the manager must have added flour after he made it yesterday. From the reviews I read before visiting this place I thought the food would be awesome. I was wrong. It was highly seasoned (I love and cook with seasoning). The seasoning was just too much. The dirty rice was ok but taste like something out of a box. Ordered a $3 drink got to the sweet tea and it was out. I asked a lady about some. Eventually she came and brewed it and did not follow up to add sugar in the time I was there. Tried pouring pink lemonade and it came out regular (yellow). All I could do was shake my head at the whole experience. The cashier was rude to multiple customers while I was there. I'm wondering how she still has a job. It might be because she is cute. 🤷‍♀️ In all I think I would visit again but at a different location because everyone can't be wrong about the...
