I stumbled upon Herand’s Kitchen while exploring my neighborhood, and it quickly became a favorite. This hidden gem in East Sunset Heights has a rich story behind it. After decades of dreaming and saving, Herand Tahmasian opened his first Persian-Mediterranean restaurant in California in 2021. In 2024, he relocated to Houston to be closer to his family and reopened his restaurant in the Heights by the end of the year. Herand’s journey is as flavorful as his food. Born in Iran to Armenian parents, married to a Greek wife, and having raised a family in London, his cooking reflects a beautiful blend of cultures. His warm personality makes the experience even better—he’s a friendly, happy man with a jokester’s charm. You can feel his passion not just in the food, but in how he interacts with every guest. The restaurant is tucked in a quiet residential area, with a private parking lot and plenty of street parking. Inside, it’s spacious, spotless, and modern, with sleek black-and-white decor. The open kitchen lets you watch Herand cooking each dish with care, making the atmosphere feel both lively and inviting. [MAIN EATS] +Boneless Chicken (Skewered marinated chicken served with rice, Herand’s salad, bread, onions, herbs, and grilled vegetables) for $22 – This plate is phenomenal. It’s so fresh-tasting, and it’s cooked to perfection. – 5/5 The menu is packed with Persian and Greek flavors inspired by the meals Herand used to cook for his family. From the generous portions to the authentic ingredients, everything here is exceptional. If you’re in the Heights and love Mediterranean food, this place should be at the top of your list! This is my new go-to restaurant.

My daughter and I visited Herand's for lunch, and it was so welcoming. The place is so inviting, and the owner, Herand, is such a sweetheart. First of all, I must comment on the decor. The place is so clean. It reminded me of Greece for some reason. Come to find out, Herand is originally from there. The decor for Christmas is just lovely. Now the food, we really enjoyed our meal. It was freshly prepared as we watched the chef put it all together. We had our fill and plenty to take home and enjoy later. I had the Chicken on the Bone, which is a Cornish game hen plate. It was fresh and delicious. I love the rice and salad! My daughter had a wrap, and it was so big she was only able to eat half. We had beer and some tzaziki with lavash as well. I forgot to get pictures of the menu, but he literally opened less than a month ago, so whatever is posted should be up-to-date. Stop by and support this new small business. You'll be happy you did. Cheers!

This new Persian restaurant is an absolute treasure! Every dish was incredibly delicious and so fresh—you can taste the quality in every bite, especially the beef koobideh, mast musir, hummus, and rice. The owner, who is also the chef, truly knows how to deliver authentic Persian flavors and makes every guest feel right at home. He’s super friendly, personable, and speaks Farsi, adding a warm, personal touch. The interior is spotless and beautifully decorated, creating a cozy yet elegant atmosphere. The customer service was top-notch, and it’s easy to see why there are lines out the door and down the street! The wait is totally worth it. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this spot for an unforgettable meal!

We were really excited to have Herand’s restaurant in the area and stopped by to support local business for lunch. Business seems to be fairly new and they are working to improve. Good taste and value of the dishes were decent. Flavors were there but it didn’t pack the punch that we are used to. We tried the chicken on the bone and expected better bone in pieces like chicken thighs or drumsticks but it was a few pieces of chicken wings. A little disappointed in that, it made us feel like we paid a lot for wings over rice. The flavor, however, was really savory and good so it kinda made up for it. Additionally, we tried the beef chenjeh which is grilled beef chunks. It was flavorful but i would like to try the kafta next time. Veggies were grilled well but you have to peel off the black char on the tomatoes and jalepeno. Rice was not as fluffy and hot when it came out. We asked for butter but since the rice wasn’t warm, the butter didn’t melt. Rice was not seasoned so we were hoping the butter would help. We didn’t finish the rice, surprisingly.

The restaurant didn’t have spoons or plating for children. We had to ask a few times for things they needed to eat with. I guess I’m used to having those things offered at restaurants. I’ll just make a note to bring my own next time. This is possibly a suggestion for their team to offer these things since the neighborhood has a lot of families with young ones. We kindly asked them to set aside their beautiful plates and glassware so our kids wouldn’t potentially break it.

Service was good but seemed like it was a small staff. It was fine with us being the only ones there but as more customers came in, I could see how service may be an issue.

I am hoping they improve, and it looks like they are working on it. Wishing the owner good luck...

Herand’s Kitchen is a delightful Persian-Mediterranean fusion restaurant that has quickly become my favorite dining spot in the Heights! From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, showcasing a beautiful and modern design.

The menu is a treasure trove of flavors, and I can’t recommend enough the Chicken on the Bone Plate. It’s cooked to perfection and made to order, ensuring every bite is flavorful and juicy. The Maast-o-Museer is a must-have; its creamy, tangy goodness perfectly complements the main dishes. The Chicken Salad is refreshingly light and bursting with vibrant ingredients, making it a delightful choice any time of day. And let’s not forget the Chenjeh Kabob Plate - the tender, marinated meat is simply divine!

What I love most about Herand’s Kitchen is the freshness of the food. Every dish is crafted with top-notch quality ingredients, making each meal feel healthy and nourishing. It’s the kind of food you could indulge in daily and still feel great about your choices.

Another bonus? There’s plenty of parking available, which is a huge plus in our busy neighborhood!

If you’re looking for a fantastic dining experience in a beautifully designed setting, Herand’s Kitchen is the place to go. I can’t wait to go back and explore more of their...
