I've been going here since.. 2014 was it? I'm not entirely sure..
I've seen this chain (I guess that doesn't feel to appropriate now) go through MANY different phases over the years. The food itself has stayed relatively consistent; while the portions, method in which they are served, and essentials have radically changed. I remember when they used to sell Coke products.. or when they didn't serve everything in biodegradable platters.
I also remember when they didn't cost as much and that's ultimately why I can't go above 3-Stars for this review. It isn't worth the cost. With the pandemic and their reducing franchise, it feels like a restaurant desperately trying to make one last buck before it ultimately shuts down. It's easy to say "Just find another XYZ RESTAURANT HERE" but Masala Wok is different, it's a hybrid restaurant. It serves both Indian and Southeastern Asian dishes.. Masala.. Wok.. do you get it now? It was rather unique for that premise alone.
The food is solid enough to satisfy. It may not be as bombastic as your local Indian place, or as delectable your local Thai place.. but it has something that hits the "good enough" spot. I love the Butter Chicken simply because it ISN'T over the top flavorful. It has a mellow flavor that compliments rice or naan perfectly. It's the kind of flavor that you don't get tired of after repeat visits. The same applies to their Tikka Masala, it's sweet and savory, it doesn't linger and it isn't heavy - If you're feeling Asian I recommend their Blazing Noodles.
In conclusion - Go here, but maybe not too often. I don't believe the downsizing correlates well with the increase in cost.
If you want traditional Indian/Asian flavors, maybe try somewhere else. That doesn't mean this place isn't any good, that just means it does it's own thing (under the umbrella of saying it's...
Read moreTerrible experience for the second time at this location. doesn't even deserve one star. It's sad because this is the location where I learned about Masala Wok. It's not authentic but it's great to grab a mix of chinese and indian foods during lunch or a quick bite to eat.
I went there on 12/16 for casual dinner. We ordered two items, a chicken tikka masala and a chinese dish. We waited 15 mins for our food and then they got the order wrong, instead of chicken tikka masala, they gave me chicken kabob...I told them they gave me a different dish than what was ordered and it's a $1 extra charge since what I ordered was cheaper. They argued that there was no difference in price when their menu board clearly stated the prices. Anyway, that wasn't the main issue. When the guy took the kabob back, he stood there and ate it. I waited at least 30 mins until they got me my dish. and guess what? Even then, they got the order wrong! They gave me butter chicken instead of the chicken tikka masala. Like I can't tell the difference? At that point, I didn't want to deal with them anymore. I was very upset.
Not only that, they had already added tips on the bill before my signature but what they gave me to sign didn't have the breakdown of the amount due. On top of the $2 they already added, I added $2 tip without knowing the tip was already there. They didn't deserve anything extra.
I am very disappointed by their service and lack of consideration. They served all their new orders before getting the wrong again order to me. Never going there again. If you go there, check each charge before signing and reconfirm your order. They should really hire people serious people about their jobs instead of kids that don't take...
Read moreLast couple of times I have had bad experiences and therefore I am writing this review. I got two items this time the chicken tikka bowl and spinach masala. The restaurant was not aware of the bowl which was suppose to have rice, tikka sauce and mango salsa. I placed the order online but confirmed the order on the phone and they were totally lost on how the item was suppose to be served and told me to order it online. When I got home it was a arugula salad and tikka pieces and that’s it. (FYI really dry chicken) After calling them and arguing with them that they messed up, the manager finally apologized and said there was a communication error between them and corporate and they were not told how the item was suppose to be made. The second item I ordered, the spinach masala with vegetables had no salt what so ever and the vegetables were half raw. I have been getting the item regularly so I am familiar with the taste. I called and spoke to the manager and he took my information and said next time they would give me credit for the items. I live 30 minutes away so by the time I make it back there, I am sure the credit will be forgotten. Very disappointing experience. Last time a month ago, the blazing noodles had so much oil that literally it was drenched. That time the manager said the sauce came like that. Maybe that’s...
