Came at 3 PM to get some French toast. This is a 24/7 joint so I figured this should be a decent time to go. Decided to get the $16 French toast with berries and chicken. This is mainly a take out operation, following the food hall model that is popular right now. I had time though, so I decided to eat in. Food was ready quick, and upon getting back to my table I was disappointed to discover why. The French toast was hard and dry. Clearly made ages ago and just waiting, prepped for an order. The chicken tenders were exactly the same and obviously frozen bagged tenders; my public high school made them better.
The French toast was advertised as having a few different types of berries in a healthy quantity. I was served three miniature strawberries with no other berries in sight.
To cap off a disappointing experience, despite asking if utensils and extras (like butter and syrup) were in the bag, the disinterested attendant said, “Yeah they should be in the bag.” They weren’t. And apparently the only time someone is present at the pickup counter is when a new order is ready, so I had to yell into the back in hopes of getting someone’s attention. I wasn’t successful even though I could see the guy who handed off my order through a window in an adjacent room sitting on his phone. After 5 minutes of hoping another order would prompt someone to come to the counter, I called the number on the google listing and was greeted by a “hello???” from someone who sounded like they were in the car. I swore I had the wrong number. After asking if it was Houston Breakfast Kitchen and getting a “yeah” I explained the situation and he said he would send someone out. A few minutes later I finally got utensils and syrup, and went back to my table to nibble on my now even colder, very...
Read moreLet’s do a breakdown of the breakfast burrito - first the good; It has tons of cheese which I love and the bacon was well-cooked.
For the not-so-good: first, season your eggs. Second, take it easy on the tater tots, they stuffed up the entire burrito and made it dry. There’s already a tortilla wrapped around , all these potatoes made the carb/starch to protein\fat ratio far too high. I recommend opting for refried beans instead - they will bring a more burrito-esque flavor and texture and prevent dryness.
Add avocado. All breakfast burritos should have avocado. Maybe some Tomatoes or salsa as well, something else to bring some acidity and cut the fat.
Burritos, burgers, sandwiches etc are only as good as their wrapper (tortilla/bun/bread). I know it’s time-consuming, but making your own tortillas would really make for an exceptional burrito (don’t tell me these were homemade, I know they weren’t)
If you guys implement these changes I’d happily return....
Read moreNever again. At first, I blamed the delivery platform for the chaos surrounding this morning’s surprise birthday breakfast for my niece—but now I realize the restaurant itself deserves just as much criticism.
I ordered from Houston Breakfast Kitchen (listed as “Houston Breakfast Club” on the platform), and spent over $40 on one of the most disappointing meals I’ve ever received. Not only did the order arrive late and ice cold—clearly the fault of the delivery service—but the food itself was unacceptable in both quality and presentation.
The French toast and ham looked like they were thrown together in a rush, with fruit haphazardly scattered across the plate. The chicken and waffles were even worse—the chicken strips were dry and clearly overcooked.
I’ve already filed a complaint with the delivery service, but I felt compelled to share my experience here as well. I’m not usually one to leave negative reviews, but in this case, I had...
