This place is a fabulous restaurant, with great comfort food that feeds your soul. The ambience elegantly takes you back to the home’s historic charm with current tasteful colors, wallpaper, lighting, and decorations.
You can feel the historic atmosphere settling in walking to the second floor, and I love how the water is served in these cute rock-forward glassware.
We came here for brunch, making reservations for four, and thankful we did. This is a very popular place, as it should be, with the atmospheric vibes it gives. In addition to some brunch cocktails, our table shared the fried green tomatoes, which were perfect with just the right flavorings and seasonings. Our main courses composed of either the fried catfish or the chicken fried steak. My very dear friend, who is almost 89, enjoyed the fried catfish, indicating it as one of the best fried catfish she has had. She has not been eating a lot, and the generous portion she was served surprisingly was almost finished when she was done eating. She ate 4/5 of this meal, and it brought me so much joy seeing her eat and enjoy it. The chicken fried steak is breaded perfectly, almost giving a “light” residual taste, compared to how heavy a chicken fried steak can make one feel.
I wanted to give this place 5/5; however, I did notice some room for improvement.
The main thing was our seating, and although I looked online at photos, did not realize the reservations I made would land us to the second floor. Sadly, when we were guided up the stairs, and my friend almost fell, we were told all the other tables below were “reserved” (as we had also made reservations). My friend has ongoing radiculopathy and sciatica she has endured for a few weeks now, and this was a challenge for her, and could have been a liability should she had fallen after sharing this concern with the hostess seating us. Although we also made reservations, I should have been aware, and encourage those with ambulation difficulties to reserve tables on the first floor, as they do not accommodate for ADA restrictions.
My other recommendation for other patrons is to ask for additional gravy with your chicken fried steak, as it is delicious and creamy, yet not nearly as generously served as other restaurants we frequent. Lastly, the hash under the chicken fried steak was room temperature to questionably cool. We ordered a side and did not touch it for the same reasons, and thankful this was removed from our bill.
Overall the meal was delightful and we enjoyed staying our full 90 minutes (your host/ess will share with you as...
Read moreThree girlfriends and I visited this place on this past Sunday for brunch. We walked in between 10:00 and 10:15 am and didn’t have to wait long for a table. Our server was named Rose. Rose was very professional, kind, patient, and knowledgeable.
We ordered a carafe of mango peach mimosa for the table and I also ordered a French 75. The mimosa was good because they gave us the bottle and the juice separately. This made it so each of us could pour whatever ratio of juice and champagne we wanted. The French 75 was a average. It wasn’t the best French 75, but it was passable.
I am notorious for not liking oxtails. I never ate them as a child when my grandmother cooked them the country style and I never ate them as an adult the Caribbean style. The brunch menu had two dishes that I really love: omelette and tamale. The only thing was that the tamale and omelette both had oxtails. I decided to choose the oxtail omelette and I am so glad o did. The omelette was the perfect size. Not too big or overstuffed and not too small. The egg was perfectly cooked, the oxtail meat was so tender and juicy, and the oxtail juice or rue the omelette was sitting in was extremely tasty. Because of this dish, I got over my dislike of oxtails! If the oxtail tamales are still on the brunch menu when I return, I will definitely get them or the omelette.
In addition to the omelette , I ordered a side of breakfast potatoes because the brunch entrees do not come with sides.
The potatoes were good. I was expecting them to be crunchy, but they were not crunchy. I shared the side with the table and it was enough for each of us. My girlfriends liked the potatoes a lot. They tore those potatoes up!
There was a steady stream of people coming in and out while we were there. Each table gets a 90 minute limit. The music was not overly loud and there was a television at the bar showing Sunday sports.
The only reason I took a star off for atmosphere was because I had to do street parking. The parking was free. The lot across the street that used to be vacant, is now a new construction project and the lot directly behind Lucille’s is being used for their valet. From the number of cars I saw on the street and the lack of cars I saw in the valet, most people are choosing not to...

Let’s talk about the Oxtail Omelette. Oh. My. Goodness. This wasn’t just an omelette—it was a rich, tender embrace of perfectly braised oxtail folded into a pillowy egg masterpiece. Each bite was a symphony of savory decadence that made me close my eyes and forget the world existed outside of that plate.
Then came the Chili Biscuits, which I’m convinced are the biscuits angels snack on. Flaky, buttery layers kissed with a smoky, spicy chili that balanced heat and comfort so perfectly I couldn’t stop myself from going back for more. Honestly, I could write a novel just about these biscuits alone.
And the Fried Chicken with Croissant French Toast? Talk about a showstopper. The chicken was golden perfection—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with a seasoning that danced on my tongue like it was born to do so. Pair that with the Croissant French Toast, which was buttery, flaky, and kissed with just the right amount of sweetness, and you’ve got a dish that’s equal parts indulgence and genius.
The Monster Fried Green Tomatoes lived up to their name—not just in size but in flavor. Crunchy on the outside, tender and tangy on the inside, these were the tomatoes of my dreams. And just when I thought it couldn’t get better, the fresh Pineapple Juice arrived like a tropical vacation in a glass—vividly sweet, refreshingly pure, and a perfect palate cleanser.
Lucille’s isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a love letter to Southern cuisine. Every plate feels intentional, every flavor feels cared for, and the atmosphere buzzes with a sense of joy and belonging. If you haven’t been, do yourself a favor—drop everything and get there. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a happy heart, and an experience you’ll want to relive...
