This place is definitely a vibe. It’s in the Northline area which has changed so much over the years. This bar has tons of outdoor patio space and parking. I got there right before they opened so I was able to get a parking spot in the free lot. One of my friends parked on the side street. Because Houston has had consecutive 100 degree days, my friends and I did not sit on the patio, but we did comment that once it cools off, we’d come back to utilize the large patio space. Monkey’s Tail has a variety of great drinks for happy hour and the food selection for happy hour is pretty expansive. The happy hour food is perfect for sharing. My friends and I started the evening with shots and then we ordered cocktails. All of the cocktails were mixed very well and did not skimp on the alcohol. There wasn’t one drink I tasted that wasn’t good. My friends said the same. To order food or drinks, you do have to go to the bar. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. The music in this place was the best. If you like Houston rap music and R&B, you’ll like the selection here. My friends and I were vibing to songs we hadn’t heard in years. One word of caution, if your bring children here, the music is not the clean version. Not sure if it’s normally the case, but there were lots of younger children in the establishment when we were there. Monkey’s Tail is on our list to repeat very soon.

Great craftmanship and uniqueness! After a few visits I can tell this place will be legendary. The ambience is relaxing, welcoming, interesting, and fun. The overall feel is a perfect balance between Mexican and foreign cultures with American styles; a perfect representation of the Houstonian culture. The food options are short but with all you really need in a Bar. The burgers are very tasty and the fries plentiful and fresh. The patio has comfortable seating and the pool table is a great touch. Not too many TV’s but that means it won’t be crowded by annoying drunk sport fans and that’s a plus. The wide window of operating times makes it easy to enjoy the bar at any time. Now to what matters, the drinks: the menu is easy to go through and to understand. Fun names and unique touches makes you want to keep it the whole night. The craftmanship level of every bartender is unbelievable. Please look at them when you order your drinks; they have all the tools imaginable and do precise movements to keep the original taste on every glass. I’ve tried the Just Wait A Bish, Three Milks, Old Fashion, Airmail-ish, among others, all feel like a new adventure, even the known cocktails! Overall a great place to hang out and enjoy good quality drinks and food without breaking the bank. Cheers!

Great drinks, great food, AND great service?! What more could you want?! They have a brunch menu, plenty of patio space, and it’s dog-friendly. There are plenty of spots for cute photo ops and IG worthy content. The staff is bilingual and speaks Spanish. The drinks and food reflect the Mexican theme and cuisine of the bar/restaurant. It’s super chill here. No one rushes you to leave or upsells you on food and drinks. The corn tortilla for the birria taco was a little stale (you could tell because the edges of the tortilla were hard) but I really had no complaints and ate it all anyway because it was so good. They give you a hefty size of carne on top of scrambled eggs and refried beans. I would have never thought of this combo myself so I was happy to try something new. We also ordered chips and queso. They were really delicious. It came with bell peppers and onions in it which I appreciated because it gave the queso flavor. My friend and I had Cactus Coolers to drink — prickly pear soda with tequila. It was light and refreshing. We also had some shots of Mexican Candy that tasted exactly like the name. They have a fully stocked bar, plenty of cocktails, and beer if that’s more your thing. I think this may be my new fave brunch spot in Houston!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome Monkey's Tail to the 'Nawfside' Houston. As parts of Houston slowly being gentrified, the demand for craft cocktail chill spot are there and Monkey's Tail supplied to that demand. Monkey's Tail has been only opened for about 4 weeks (at the time of this review) and it's already getting regulars of all ages and races in this predominately Mexican neighborhood.

The entrance may look inconspicuous but the interior definitely will give you a different vibe. Inside certainly reminds me of both Johnny's Gold Brick and The Flat, the clean dive-y look of a bar and lounge combined with slightly dimmed lighting for an more intimate feel. There's a pool table along with cigarette dispenser for those who need a smoke out on the patio. The bar is well stocked with even more spirits hidden behind the front row of bottles.

Monkey's Tail have frozen cocktail, draft cocktail, original concoction they came up with, beer, wine, and of course non-alcoholic drinks too. Now the food menu looks promising because my friends and I ate beforehand but we did get the chips and queso and the queso is definitely delicious. They also do break-even bottle, meaning Monkey's Tail will pretty much sell the bottle at cost so you can try a pour of rare spirit they are doing without paying a premium for the pour.

The service there is top notch as Leslie took care of me and my friends well. Especially when I ordered No... Pos Ta Cabron, an usually pre-made cocktail that's served in the pouch (as seen in many pictures on here) but they were out, so Leslie personally made one for me. Obviously the fresh one tasted good, and I hope if I come back and get one pre-made, it will just be as good. The other drink I got is 3 Milks, their version of boozy 'tres leches' cake. It's also served in a mini glass milk bottle and it's like a drinking boozy dessert. A friend of mine got the How Do You Like Them Apples? - one of the draft cocktail, and the nitro in it really helps to bring out the apple spiced cider flavor.

The music isn't loud and great mix of Spanish and English songs, I didn't get a chance to play the pool table there but given how new the place is, I think the table should still be in good shape. I am definitely coming back to Monkey's Tail whenever I come see my friends who live...
