Red Balloon Cafe — Restaurant in Houston

I noticed this restaurant from the beltway. They have a large sign showing serving breakfast, so I was curious. I work in the area so it’s always good to know any good places to eat near my job. Once I entered the restaurant, I noticed that it was very clean. I was greeted by Ms Miriam, very sweet, very friendly and kind. I was interested in the veggie omelette, but was disappointed once I was told they had no spinach. So I decided to get the cheese omelette and I added grilled chicken breast and it was delicious. It came with potatoes that were cooked to perfection with green bell peppers, red bell peppers onions They were delicious with my omelette. I inquired about trying the oatmeal, but was again disappointed when told it would take a long time to cook, 🤔(oatmeal 🥴 ok I guess). I also ordered a single pancake on the side the pancake taste exactly like how I cook mine at home so this was perfect. Overall by my picture as you can see, everything was delicious and very fulfilling & everything was cooked fresh. I definitely will return you guys have a new customer! while waiting on my food to cook. I looked over the menu and saw quite a few things that I would like to try. Exactly four months ago was the first and last visit here… and unfortunately today I was not pleased… my omelette was nothing like last time. It wasn’t good &very disappointing. Funny, I didn’t receive the potatoes that I thought were delicious. today they actually had oatmeal, but as you can see, it was full of water. I just found out it’s new cooks and you can tell. Saw this place off the Sam Houston Tollway and decided we would try it. Arrived and there was 2 other guest. This was our first time so we didn't realize you just order at the counter.

Good:I visited the restroom to wash my hands and the restroom was clean.

I ordered a Garden salad but given a grilled chicken salad $14.95 (I do not eat chicken).

The rest of my party tried the chicken friend steak (2) and 6pc chicken wings.

The chicken wings and fries were good and fresh for $10.95

The chicken fried steak was over breaded and just mediocre for $19.95 and the bread roll was the smallest we have ever seen

The onion rings requested with one of the chicken fried steak orders were good $21.45

Since there were only 6 people (including my party) I did not send the grilled chicken salad back because business looked slow so I just ate fries and onion rings off the plates of my party.

BEWARE!!! Well I should have sent the grilled chicken salad back because I noticed my receipt had an additional fee (Non-cash) for using a credit card. Other places let you know upfront for additional charges for using a credit card.

Overall my party stated the chicken fried steak is not worth the price or the size. The deceptive additional charge for using the credit card and the mediocre chicken fried steak(which they do advertise with signage the best in Houston(NOT!!!) may be the reason there were only 6 people at lunchtime. Best Shrimp Bisque I've EVER had and the Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger was equally delicious! First visited on Tuesday for a late lunch. The chef warmly greeted myself and a gentleman walking in after me. We were generously offered samples of Shrimp Bisque and Poblano Soup, which immediately sold me on the Shrimp Bisque. It looked like a small serving, but it was extremely filling so I ate half for dinner. I'm not a fan of poblano peppers, in general, but I still enjoyed it!

Returned Wednesday for the Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger. The thick patty was cooked to perfection, no pink and not dry. The vegetables looked and tasted fresh. The thick cut fries had just the right amount of Cajun seasoning and were fried perfectly, not soggy, not burnt, just right.

The cafe is brand new, therefore; the menu is not set in stone yet, hence the crossed out items on the photo. The owner mentioned adding salads and a children's menu. Regardless of future updates, this place is a gem!! Looking forward to cooler weather to enjoy the large patio with my...
