Nut allergy friendly: Everything we ordered was A-OK! Note that this review is solely for their 9-10PM Reverse Happy Hour. I don't think I'd come back if it didn't exist. Parking: Valet, neighborhood is hard to find any. We parked near Cherryhurst Park, a five minute walk. We had a 9:15PM reservation for 5, arrived at 9:25PM, and were seated around 9:35PM. Service was overall lovely with a starting complimentary sparkling rose and our water kept topped off even as the restaurant neared closing. The only issue was that the lights kept going out in our section for some reason. That was annoying but not detrimental to the experience as we had candles. It took a solid 10 minutes or so for someone to take our order but once they did, pizzas came out pretty quickly. (About 10 minutes after ordering). In fact, the Pepperoni pizza came even before our drinks did. For five people, we ordered: Pepperoni Pizza (4.5/5): Loaded with freshly cut pepperoni. Great classic take. Kale Pizza (5/5): I love their take on this. The blue cheese overpowers any honey, but compliments the kale very nicely. Cacio e Pepe (4.5/5): Like eating cheese pasta on bread. It blended the flavors very well. Roasted Cauliflower (4/5): Pretty expensive for what it is, but they were delicious and easily shared to where everyone got 3-4 pieces each. My drink (Mezzo) was nice, a good rye cocktail. Their signature cocktails were all quite unique. We all agreed that if they put the Kale on the Pepperoni Pizza it'd be an immediate 5/5. Paid via inKind with no issues. Overall, phenomenal happy hour value, reservation recommended because it was packed on a Saturday night.

Went yesterday (Sunday) right when it opened at 5pm. Our group of 5 girls waited in a short line outside the door 5 minutes before it opened. There were no available reservations till 10pm (popular new spot!) so we took our chances and asked the hostess if she could accommodate our group since we arrived so early. She was kind enough to accommodate us right away, and we got seated in a beautiful booth! Ambience: beautiful decor, quaint, small, cozy, light (without the sun shining in too intensely), pretty succulents and cacti dotted around. When the restaurant filled up, the noise volume became louder but wasn’t difficult to hear each other at all. The kitchen is an open, live fire style with a wood-burning oven and grill. This definitely added to the ambience. Service: attentive, timely, appropriate. Outside of our friendly waitress, we had lots of different employees helping deliver food to our table which was fun to see. Drinks: very Italian influenced. Cocktails: $12 ea. Glasses of wine: $9-12, with most options be $12. I would say these are average-above average prices. Beer options were a bit pricey: $6-14 Food: a lot of options meant for sharing. We tried the Focaccia di Recco (very good, thin warm flatbread stuffed with cheese and thinly sliced Italian sausage), the Papas & Mojo Rojo (round potatoes with a yummy sweet pepper dipping sauce, potatoes would be flavorless without this sauce), and the Misticanza salad (very light). Would definitely come back to try other food options - especially the pizzas! Parking: valet. Also there is plenty of neighborhood parking on nearby streets.

(Approaching VPN authenticity...sorta) Ya know? I kinda had trepidation, reviewing the menu tonight. And I just defaulted to the Farm Salad. Turns out, I really liked it. From the brown butter crunchy breadcrumbs to the watermelon radishes and the vinaigrette. I would order it again. Probably would enjoy having it at the bar. Two of our party ordered pizze. Two kinds. I had a taste. I liked. Texture more Neopolitan VPN. Good flavor profile. I think they are doing the pizzeria quite well here. Photo is after we dived into the food. If you plan for dessert , I would recommend skipping the honey cake, and the espresso chocolate mousse and defaulting to the Basque style cheesecake. A random rumination: people like me, who love to cook, are often content to stay home , trying new recipes. I mean, I can make a perfect salad. I don't need to dine out to have one. So for dining out is a whole, social experience. An opportunity to be with friends over dinner. So when a restaurant is really noisy, well, a key component of dining out, conversation over food, gets thrown out the window. So tonight, I had to lean into our other five table guests in order to hear and participate in the table conversation. I've been to several places this month and have been surprised by the noise level.

Rosie Canonball is known for European comfort food in the heart of Montrose and is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. It was founded by the Goodnight Hospitality group which is behind Montrose Cheese & Wine and MARCH Restaurant. The kitchen is an open concept with live fire and is centered around a wood-burning oven and grill. On the menu, you'll find local vegetables, pastas, pizzas, seafood, and locally-sourced meat. You'll also find an extensive wine list and amazing Italian-influenced cocktails.

The parking situation is a bit tough as there isn't a private parking lot. They do offer tipped valet parking. Although they have limited seating outside, there is a lively atmosphere indoors. I would recommend getting a reservation when coming here as it's usually packed.

As for the menu, it does tend to change slightly over the seasons. I have tried so many cocktails and dishes at Rosie Canonball, it's been hard to keep track of! Luckily, I wrote some notes below:

[COCKTAILS]

+Wonderful Performance (vodka, coconut, pineapple, citrus, and eggwhite) for $14 - This tastes like a piña colada! - 4.5/5 +Rosie's Old Fashioned (bourbon and cardamom-rhubarb) for $14 - 4/5 +Late Monsoon (bourbon, spiced pear, apple, and sparkling wine) for $14 - 4/5 +Space Somm (rums, pedro ximenez sherry, passionfruit, and pineapple) for $14 - 4/5 +Written & Directed By (old tom gin, amaro, oloroso sherry, and italicus) for $14 - 4/5 +Featherweight (dry vermouth, genepy, chartreuse, apricot, and citrus) for $14 - 4/5 +Antilles Hour (rhum agricole, cocchi americano, banana, and absinthe) for $14 - 3.5/5

[MOCKTAILS]

+Safe & Sound (pineapple, citrus, peach, and spices) for $10 - 4.5/5 +All Together (seedlip spice 94, citrus, and passionfruit) for $10 - 4/5 +Rosie Riviera (grapefruit, pomegranate, and soda) for $10 - I wished this had more carbonation in it as it has soda. It also feels like this would be better chilled. - 3/5

[STARTERS & SHARES]

+Focaccia di Recco (Warm flatbread with mortadella & robiola cheese) for $22 - 5/5 +Tuna Crudo (pomegranate agrodolce, citrus, and salsa verde) for $20 - 4.5/5 +Burrata & Fire Roasted Tomato (confit garlic, cuquillo olive gremolata, and baguette) for $20 - 4/5

[VEGETABLES]

+Blistered Bean Salad (pea shoots, shallots, fresno peppers, olives, and candied almonds) for $16 - 4.5/5 +Marinated Beets (burrata, sunflower seed vinaigrette, oleppo honey, and pain de campagne for $18 - 4/5 +Melon & Cucumber Salad (colatura, colabrian chili crisp, and ricotta salato) for $18 - 4/5 +Grilled Romaine (green garlic dressing, boquerones, parmesan, and breadcrumbs) for $16 - 3.5/5

[PIZZA]

+Cacio E Pepe (white souce, formoggi al pepe, and pecorino) for $20 - 5/5 +Fennel Sausage & Peppers (colabrian chile, allium cont. scamorza, and fresnos) for $20 - 4/5 +Caramelized Onion and Bacon/Date Jam (grand cru gruyere, bacon date jam, and arugula) for $24 - 4/5 +Pineapple & Schiacciata (mozzarella, lardo, and hot honey) for $22 - This pizza is really sweet, like a dessert, if you're into that. It's also really soggy. - 3.5/5

[PASTA]

+Gnocchi (cauliflower, truffle, and balsamic) for $36 - 5/5 +Cavatelli Alla Bolognese (lambrusco bolognese and parmigiano reggiano) for $20 - 5/5 +Penne Alla Vodka (creamy tomato sauce, caciotto, mozzarella, and latterio cheeses) for $24 - 5/5 +Fregula with Clams (saffron, fennel, and chili oil) for $28 - 3/5

[FROM THE FIRE]

+Grilled Redfish (colatura glaze, butter beans, and chive crème fraîche) for $34 - The butter beans were okay, I think this item could have been better with the choice of sides. - 3.5/5

[DESSERT]

+The Honey Cake (burnt honey, dulce de leche whipped cream, and crème fraiche gelato) for $14 - 5/5

Overall, Rosie Canonball is always an amazing experience. Their pastas are handmade in the morning and taste super fresh by night. The pizzas are cooked in their wood-burning oven and are incredible. If you want to have European comfort food in a lively atmosphere in Houston, Rosie Canonball is your best bet. Highly...

I have had the pleasure of eating at Rosie Cannonball only one...but I plan to go back as soon as they are open for seating albeit with social distancing. I've recommended Rosie's to family and friends and those that have taken me up on my recommendation have agreed...interesting wine, appetizer, entree and wine menu, delicious meals finished off with crave inducing desserts! Seating available at the bar, friendly, knowledgeable staff and servers make for a good meal and overall experience.Interior decor hits all the right notes; tastefully appointed without being pretentious, comfortable without being too casual. Exterior is a nice new 2 story building designed with an older inner city, think Brooklyn, appeal. Perfect location in the heart of Montrose, on Westheimer easy to find and ideal drop off or pick up if you Uber, parking options included valet, street, parking lot. Have a glass a wine in the adjoining Montrose Cheese and Wine or window shop in the also adjoined Biscuit or the other small shops, antique stores surrounding the restaurant. In closing...I am especially impressed and grateful for the ownership's, Goodnight Hospitality, generous and thoughtful response to the pandemic crisis which devastated the restaurant business. From all accounts both first hand and through social media and news reports the ownership group put their money where their mouths are and stepped up for their not just their staff across all of businesses but for countless people who make up the heart and soul of Houston's hospitality industry. Their efforts included reduced pay and minimum, if any, furloughs of their staff and continuous donation of food boxes for Hospitality workers impacted by the pandemic. Instead of closing down and waiting it out while folks made their way with limited resources, Goodnight Hospitality coordinated with vendors and local farmers to keep pantry staples available for those hardest hit. Following their efforts on IG, it was encouraging to see the employees working together to prepare and distribute boxes. Thanks to their hard work and wherewithal they've managed to stay afloat by offering curbside and delivery. Kudos to all and can't wait to sit and enjoy another wonderful...

We were excited to try Rosie Cannonball for the first time last night. The food was great. We had the little gems salad, focaccia, blistered green beans, cacio e pepe pizza, supreme pizza, corn pizza and honey cake. All were delicious - the supreme pizza did come out a bit soggy. No complaints about the food at all.

We originally booked a table on the patio since we figured November weather should be nice in Houston but didn't realize a storm was coming. The patio doesn't have any covering, and they were nice enough to quickly move us inside the restaurant (though it was very crowded and with a wait). We were very pleased that they could accommodate us quickly.

Since the restaurant was so packed, the servers were having issues delivering food/drinks since it's such a tight squeeze between the tables. A female server was approaching the table next to us with a tray full of cocktails, and one cocktail falls off her tray and lands right on my right foot and the glass shatters on my sandals. My feet and dress were wet, and my friend sitting next to me was very wet from the spill. My foot hurt a bit but got better. It took a while for the servers to help us - and we had to ask for towels which eventually came. What I am most annoyed about is that none of the staff really checked on us to see if we were ok. And instead, we had to help them out to see where all the glass had shattered with the light from our phones. They didn't offer to pay for cleaning my friend’s clothes or Prada purse. It was as if nothing happened. I found this very odd given how great the service started off. By the end of the dinner my foot was very sticky since I assume it was a sugary cocktail.

Since this came as a shock to us, I didn't get a chance to take pictures of what happened. We left the restaurant very disappointed, not because of the food, but because of...
