Horrible food, and even worse ways of preparing the food. They leave their meat to defrost on the floor in open containers over night, with only plastic partly covering the containers. They batter their meat on dirty trash cans (with trash and trash bag still in trash can, not tied up) in large bowls large enough to fit inside the trash can with the lip of the bowl hanging over the edge of the trash can. Wasting food? Oh never that, while battering the meats, if a piece of meat falls onto the floor that everybody has been stepping on all day, it does not get wasted, the manager makes you pick it up and throw right back into the bowl, which again, is on on top of a trash can. Also keep in mind this place is not the cleanest either, the building has roaches and although i never saw one, i'm sure they have rats. Many times the plastic on the containers that had been left out over night to defrost the next morning had pieces bit off in the corners and small holes in it to where the meat was very more exposed then it had been being partly covered the previous evening. The idea of anybody eating food from this place knots up my stomach. They under pay their kitchen employees as well, under minimum wage, because in the managers words " they simply can't afford to pay their employees minimum wage." I wish the health department or news would run in there one day and expose the sick, disgusting ways about the " restaurant" and shut them down. I don't see how anybody could serve that kind of food to people, let alone sell it. If anybody has ever gotten sick from this place or has had a bad taste in their mouth, there's your reason why. It's sad when you walk in and see all the pictures on the wall of customers over the past 20 years who have dined in and eaten there, and have no clue what's goes on behind closed doors in...

I've been coming here since I was a very, very tiny person.

There are currently 2 locations, one here and one at the Blalock location H-Mart. I would assume that this location is better since it is the original and some loss of quality is to be expected with expansion.

Originally the restaurant was in bad need of a face lift; it's located in a not too well off part of town and isn't a delight to look at by any means. On the inside, since its renovation several years ago, the place has been well kept and is welcoming.

This restaurant offers chinese-korean foods including jjajjangmyeon, tangsuyuk, jjampong, and more. Out of similar restaurants I've tried in Houston, this one takes the cake. There is no competition.

Jjampong This is the dish to get if you're going the korean/chinese menu route. It's perfectly seasoned and full of delicious meats and seafoods.

Jjajangmyeon Better than most of the same dish I've tried anywhere else in Houston but honestly kind of bland. The sauce needs a bit more salt, or msg or oomph. Something.

Tansuyuk These were over-fried on my visit. Almost to the point of being burnt. Unnecessarily crispy. Sauce is lovely though.

Service is quick but not especially friendly - although this is to be expected. They start you off with some korean side dishes including kimchi and onions to dip in a black sauce - weird but oddly tasty. The finish with some very nice slices of orange and fortune cookies. Sometimes when you come here there are sketchy people in the parking lot (ex. people who park not in a parking space but right in front of the door and never come in but just stare) but I've never had anything happen or heard of...

I asked the delivery driver what was the difference between the regular plate and the chefs special because it was like $10 extra dollars for the chef special. He informed me that the chefs special is more food. So I orders the chefs special. Now let me say I’ve ordered from here before I got a regular plate. They gave me a black plastic bowl with the meat I ordered and a side of rice. This time I ordered the chef special under the assumption that it was much more cause it’s like $10 extra. And that was certainly not the case. When I got my food it was the same black bowl with way less chicken and a side of rice. So I called the store to see if maybe they made a mistake on my order. The lady that works at the front informed me that tyriaki chicken is only chef special which I confirmed yes that’s what I got but my problem is that you advertise that it’s more food for more money. But it’s the same portion size container. And tbh they gave me less food than last time where I paid way less. She wasn’t helpful with my questions and kept speaking over me at that point when I was trying to explain to her my problem. I accepted that they just serve the same portion for different prices. I will not eat here anymore but hopefully this review helps others when they are looking for a decent place to eat. Food is not that great either the chicken is really dry and thin, and not flavorful it doesn’t taste grilled it taste like it was boiled in water. The rice is not flavorful at all either. The lo mien is really good. I would recommend that they give you a lot of noodles but there regular and chefs special plates are the same size nothing different just the price...

Are you looking for great Chinese food in Houston? Try Shan Hu Chinese Restaurant another longtime family favorite and today I understood why! Earlier in the day we dropped by to pickup several kung pao chicken lunches to go! Since it’s my fave dish I returned to see what the big deal was. Wow - my dish was savory, aromatic, perfectly spiced; the chicken and veggies were fresh and tasty! It’s a spicy dish but I added their awesome hot oil which took it to another 🔥 level! The lunch special includes the tastiest egg roll, soup of the day which was hot and sour and your choice of fried or white rice. My family member ordered the sweet and sour chicken which is also a favorite. They serve generous and beautiful portions on nice dishes at good prices. I also liked the iced tea. I can’t recall the last time I enjoyed a Chinese food meal so much. I highly recommend these good people! Btw they are closed on Mondays. #chinesefood #kungpaochicken #houstonfoodie #sweetandsourchicken #houstonfoodie #chinesecuisine #houston #foodie #htown #foodiesofinstagram #foodblogger #shanhuchineserestaurant #houstonrestaurants

Greatest culinary experience in houston, I firmly belive this is the single greatest chinese restaurant ever. The waiter was a very kind man and the menu was huge, food was made in under 10 minutes. And it was in massive portions, incredible. Every bite was heaven. And the prices were unreal, in the lunch menu it was only 11.99 for a huge plate of 30 different beef/chicken/shrimp dishes. And all coming with soup, egg roll, fried noodle chips, and amazing fried rice included. I will cherish this memory of great food and hospitality forever.
