Sparkles Burger & Daiquri — Restaurant in Houston

First time ever coming to this local spot. I have not even had a chance to try the food because the customer service was horrible upon entering. Walked into the restaurant and was not even acknowledged even though she was at the counter. We got the menu and as I walked down to the young lady to speak and try and ask a question was greeted with such disdain. I overlooked it and proceeded to give her my order. After paying for the order I looked at the receipt and again told her that the fries should have been large because they would be split between two people. Her response was “I read your order back to you and you didn’t say anything than”. I repeated I told you I needed a large fry because they were being split. I than yelled to the cook to make it a large while mumbling under her breath. “I told you it’s not a problem, but you should have said something when I read the order back!” I looked at my husband who said all she said was the burgers and fries and we both agreed she did not say a size. She decided that today was the day she wanted to go back and forth with a customer. I politely told her please just get my food together. We are not about to do this today. I just need my food. You don’t know what type of day anyone may have had. The young lady that was the cook with the eyes and gave us the food was very friendly. 07/27/2023. We decided this is not a place we want to partake in. It was to support a Black Owned Business, but with attitudes and having a distaste placed in your mouth, I am ok not patronizing with them again. Doesn't matter if you are near or far. You must try Sparkle. Sparkle is not a fancy restaurant so don't go expecting glitz and glam. Lol. Sparkle's is your laid back hole in the wall burger joint. They of course keep it clean and the lights low. Just how I like to enjoy a meal. There is places to eat inside or you are more than welcome to get your food to go but good luck on that to go option. One sniff of that container you're going to be upset you didn't stay to eat.

It is counter service. You place your order and then your food is made. So do not go rushing. They make each order once it is placed. Of course you can call ahead and hope it's ready or close to ready when you get there but do not rush perfection.

Now to the food! The food! The food! The burger is really hard to get down. And not because it tastes bad, but because it's a mega all beef never frozen burger patty. Yes you read that correctly. If you're feeling really risky, like my child, order the double meat and see if you can finish it. He got down to two bites and had to call it quits. And that was after forcing more than five bites over his limit. Fries are actually fresh cut Idaho potatoes. I think they are Idaho. Heck I'm not sure. Just order them. Seriously!

They do have daiquiris. I sadly did not get one so can not speak on how good they are but they definitely looked good.

The wait was crazy: 45 minutes for 3 burgers with fries/tots. I literally had begun to assume they'd accidentally given my order to someone else. Staff was very friendly. It just took way too long.

Wait, did you look up Sparkles as a hang-out spot? Not likely. Did you look it up on a quest for fast food? Probably not. You were looking for a dad-gummed burger! And let me tell you something: This dad-gummed burger was something else!

I wish I'd thought to take a photo of this thing. I guess I was just so enamored with it, so transported by it... Thick, richly colored, charred beef, glistening with juiciness. Sparkles isn't charging you $7 or $8 for a ⅓ pounder, my friend. I don't know how fat this beauty was, but it was substantial.

Gourmet burgers are kind of a thing, it seems. But I feel like all those joints end up doing is charge you too much for the glam while delivering a good burger (hey, Hopdoddy). Maybe even a great one on a rare occasion. Sparkles is after something different, something grander. Their burger is not ugly, by any means (here's looking at you, Five Guys), but they're not wasting too much time trying to make it schmancy. They're clearly putting all that time and care into making it fricking delicious. And can I tell you?
