Hi. Hello. It's Me. The Pizza Queen. I am delighted to tell you that. . I am satisfied. I recently stopped eating pizza for my weight loss journey and I haven't eaten pizza since August 5. Today. . is November 16. It's been a long. . time coming. A week ago, I asked my Houston Yelp friends (I'm from Virginia) about where to get the best pizza. A lot of people recommended this place and another. After looking at options, I picked Star.

When you pull up to the parking lot on Norfolk (a city in Virginia by the way), you see a big sign with a pizza star lol. So cool. You also see signs that tell you to lock your vehicles and hide your belongings. I mean, typical.

You walk in and you see where the hostess would be. There is a sign that tells you to wait to be seated because she might be helping someone else. The hostess came within 10 seconds of us being there. We then got to pick our own booth which is nice. All the booths had different pizza paintings, my type of paaaarty.

Our waiter Luis was amazing. From the start he made us feel welcomed. It was our first time and he told us, "well this is REAL pizza". He sold us on different items on the menu such as a great appetizer starter. We ended up getting Baked Goat Cheese ($7.50). This was baked goat cheese served with olive oil, sun dried tomatoes, and french bread. What sold us on getting it was the fact that he said. . we could put it on our pizza. Now, if you haven't tried goat cheese on your pizza, you're not living right. The goat cheese was very good. I had to try not to eat it all and save some for my pizza of course. For my friends appetizer, she ended up getting a small super green salad ($4.25). That consisted of kale, spinach, arugula, carrots, red onions, avocado, orange slices, craisins, walnuts, and feta cheese. She said it was a great mix of flavors.

rubs hands together NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT PART: Heeeey Pizza. My boyfriend and I ended up splitting a medium (14 inch). Half of it was Ben's (ground beef, italian sausage, pepperoni, and ham) and the other half was chicken Alfredo (alfredo sauce, chicken, gorgonzola, mozzarella, mushrooms, onions, fresh basil, and their house mix of mozzarella and provolone. A 14 inch pizza is $15 and worth every inch. The half and half is always a good idea if you don't know what to get.

Luis offered us dessert however, we were stuffed from the awesome food. From our table we could see the window that had all the dessert and well, next time we will get some.

I feel like my experience here helped welcome me back to the Pizza life. . I mean. . I never left, but you know what I mean. I shall be back,

Love. . the...

One of my favorite pizza places - but today on Mothers Day, they missed the mark with their lack of service!! Yes, the pizza is good, and the sandwiches, and even the salads. But the service - not so much! There were three of us and we spent about $50 on 3 entrees. Here’s what happened. First, it took about 45 mins to get our food - but it wasn’t even crowded or full. While we sat there wondering if they even put our order into the kitchen, NOT ONCE did the waitress check back with us to see if we needed anything (like water, an appetizer after so much time has passed, or to assure us that our order was coming!). Then, it gets worse. My favorite pizza arrived - the Joe’s - with the additional topping I ordered and paid for which was feta cheese. However for the extra fee I paid for the feta, they hardly put ANY on the pizza. Barely any feta there. My daughter ordered the Portofino, which evidently is a pizza without marinara or cheese - except for a tiny bit of feta cheese that again you would need reading glasses to find and hardly any that you could taste. Finally the waitress shows up to ask how things are. We told her that my daughter didn’t like the Portofino that she ordered and didn’t see in the description that they leave out the cheese - and asked what could be done. The waitress had no idea so she brought someone who might have been the manager over to our table. He only offered to bring some extra marinara. He was told that my daughter didn’t like the pizza she ordered - it frankly was tasteless and dry with hardly any flavor. I added that they do not put enough feta on any of their pizzas and even my pizza where I was charged extra for the add-on had not nearly enough. What did he do? Offered to bring a side of marinara but did not bring extra feta cheese and did not offer to replace the pizza. He frankly didn’t give a damn. Very disappointing and certainly not what the manager should do in this situation. Terrible! If we eat there again, it certainly won’t be in the restaurant - take out only. Train your people...

Okay, if you're looking for real and honest, here it is. The goat cheese bake was okay, a bit sour then I prefer. It wasn't hot at the bottom, just the top appeared to be baked. Not worth $9. Our deep dish was a bit soggy, and there was hardly any cheese initially, which made it worse. I didn't understand the difference in deep dish and the other pizza, it wasn't totally clear, it just had a high back, and a bunch of toppings literally thrown on top but not in a good way. It wasn't worth the hype for me. Our New York style was crispy? And there was 2 or 3 bubbles, with really dark cheese, my kids were not happy lol! It tasted over cooked tbh. Dry.

I brought up the cheese issues with the deep dish. She tried to say that they couldn't melt it now. She went and checked, came back and took it to add more cheese. When she came back to our table, I mentioned the other pizza, to which she stated it is like that. I flat out asked, is the new york usually crispy? She said yes. Never again. The deep dish came back, it was a lot better but man, I still hate that I spent $61. I could of enjoyed my local spot a lot better... but hey, maybe my review will help you decide if you want to come or not. Just be mindful of the bad reviews, they've got some points I definitely agree with.

The reviews is what won me over, and I feel deceived. Lol I wish our sever would of talked to the manager and had them come, but it did not happen. First...

As always, the pizza this past Saturday was (everyone agreed) absolutely delicious. Individually ordered slices come mostly as works of food art. I've never ordered but was write impressed with the personal pizzas ordered at our table this time as well (group of seven). On another recent visit, my two visiting LA friends (born Houstonians, but now thoroughly Calafornia-ised as far as food, i.e. light) were blown away by the fancier salads on the menu, "best ever". I hadn't had the Joe's Pizza in many, many visits... was so glad we had one this time: deep dish, whole wheat crust - the way to go! Joe's is Star's signature spinach and garlic pizza. You'll be shocked how flaky and delicious the whole wheat crust is! Don't bother with the white (it's fine too, don't worry). I ordered both my slices deep dish and whole wheat crust and totally was the right decision. Only thing I would say is, if you don't like huge wedges of toppings like onion (in particular) and you order them, be sure to ask that they dice the onions, etc. This time I had green bells on my slice, no big deal but along with the nice slender strips of bell pepper, there were also some large wedges. Not so bad as with onion, but I chopped that up myself with the fork. I hadn't specified 'no chunks' when I ordered. Anyway, a small thing.

Star Pizza is as delicious 😋 as the sunset is divine. What makes Star Pizza so excellent is the quality of their food, the prices, and the casualness of the restaurant. Those three things give Star Pizza amazing value. The deep dish pizza is an experience in and of itself. Order a single slice or a pie, the result will be the same. Gastronomy Enlightenment. Star Pizzas deep dish whole wheat crust in particular has the mouthwatering, eye closing, time stopping, nourishing affect second to none. When you take a bite of a deep dish extra sauce, extra cheese, choose your topping, wheat crust pizza you’ll not only want to slap your mama, you’ll want to slap everybody. Trust me. I speak from experience. It’s really that good. But don’t just take my word for it. Read some of the other reviews, you’ll see the experience is consistent. Be warned. After having Star Pizza, you’ll never appreciate any frozen or franchise option again. In fact, Star Pizzas deep dish wheat crust pizza is so good, I bet that if The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tried it, they’d renounce their own New York large hand-tossed thin crust pizza, and vow before Splinter to never eat another slice again. That’s how powerful it is. In summary. Delicious pizza. Reasonable prices. Super casual dining. Bon appétit 😊
