Taqueria El Charro — Restaurant in Houston

My first time visiting this family owned restaurant. I wanted a good breakfast taco place to visit. This was the place I chose based off the reviews and plus it isn't far from where I grew up. I ordered breakfast tacos, I was first skeptical about ordering a taco with eggs because I don't eat scramble eggs. But I must say, they won over my palate I ordered 3 tacos: (1) Huevos con Chorizo / Eggs with Potatoes (corn tortilla) , (2) Chorizo with potatoes (corn tortilla). The food is fresh and made to order! The tacos with egg was great especially since I don't eat scrambled eggs. I was asked did I want fresh pico de gallo, that is a plus! Tasty, family-owned hole in the wall. I might have driven by here a thousand times when I was in high school long ago, but never noticed it. Maybe not an ideal first-date type of place, unless you're trying to prove how real you can keep it, but a good option for eating with laid back family, friends or northside co-workers.

My kids' crispy taco shells were freshly made and their beef and chicken fajita was just right. My carne guisada was super tender, and flavorful.

The waitstaff was very considerate and attentive, though it's hard not to notice what people need in a room this small.

I'm giving a 4 because I've usually gotten good food here. I don't know what happened this time. We just got breakfast burritos and beef tacos for the family and it was not good at all. The meat was actually cold! The tortillas for the tacos were definitely store brought with that weird firm texture. The burrito tortillas were the same. Not at all like the pictures in some of these reviews. They even forgot 2 of our tacos and 1 burrito. I've gone here several times and never had such subpar and not fresh food!
