02.16.2025 UPDATE!!!!! After a few emails to discuss my review, we decided to stick with Crumby for our cake and cupcake order—and we’re so happy we did! The design and colors were absolutely spot-on, and the flavors were delicious. The frosting was perfectly balanced—not too sweet, but just sweet enough. Some of our guests even went back for seconds! The cake layers were moist and flavorful, and we couldn’t stop nibbling on it. Highly recommend Crumby for any special occasion

UPDATE: Bake shop has reached out, I will update review as we move along with process, I have high hopes so cross fingers!!!

Not Sure What to Think?!

I’m really trying to support local mom-and-pop businesses, but I’m conflicted about this one.

Every Friday, after my grandbaby’s "gym gym day," we visit a wonderful food establishment nearby. Recently, we noticed a cute little bakery had opened up and, after trying a few treats we enjoyed, we decided to order from them for the baby’s birthday.

On 02/24/2025, I visited the bakery and spoke with an employee about ordering a cake and cupcakes for 02/15/2025—about two weeks away. She assured me that was plenty of time and instructed me to submit a request online for a quote.

On 02/27/2025, I followed through and submitted my request—yet I never heard back.

By 02/31/2025, I went back in person, decorations and sprinkles in hand, ready to finalize details. That’s when I was told, "Oh, sorry no one got back to you, but with it being only two weeks away and right after Valentine’s Day, we’re not sure we can do it." On top of that, I was met with a string of excuses as to why no one responded in the first place.

Even so, I remained patient and asked them to please confirm by 02/02/2025 whether they could fulfill the order so I could make other arrangements if needed. I left my name, number, and email—yet received nothing. Not a single word.

Is it just me, or does this seem unacceptable? This is a new business trying to establish itself, yet they failed to communicate with a potential long-term customer. Even if they couldn’t fulfill the order, a simple "no" would have sufficed so I could move on.

The order wasn’t complicated—just a small cake and 2-3 dozen cupcakes. We already had the toppers, sprinkles, and color scheme picked out. So, what was the issue? Was it my color that was the problem, or just plain poor communication?

Disappointed and undecided on whether I’d give them...

I ordered custom cupcakes with fondant toppers for my son's 3rd birthday. The day of the birthday party, I received a text in the morning indicating if I could pick up the cupcakes a little later than my designated scheduled time because the owner had an employee out sick all week. Unfortunately, there was no flexibility in timing because the party started at 3:30p. Then, I received a text message at 2:45pm that my custom cupcakes would not be completed in time and that I would be receiving a refund and normal cupcakes. When I came to pick up the cupcakes, the owner did not even come out to apologize to me in person.

I am just astounded at how unprofessional this whole exchange transpired. I understand unexpected circumstances occur but the right thing to do would be to give customers a heads up several days prior to the scheduled date, so that other arrangements can be made (if the owner knew scheduling would be tight with an employee out all week). To tell me less than an hour before my party start time that my order could not be completed as ordered is inexcusable. Furthermore, one text message is not enough to make me feel better about the situation. I expect a phone call, an apology in person...anything that would make this feel genuine and personal. Luckily, my son won't know any better but what if my child specifically asked for this at an older age or I ordered a custom cake?? Deplorable customer service, especially being that this bake shop just opened. I will never order from here again nor will I recommend this bake shop to my friends. Manage your time better, don't overbook custom orders, and allot for unexpected occurrences. Even though I received a refund, I was just shocked that the owner did not reach out more to alleviate this unfortunate transaction. Such a...

The jalapeño cheddar scone here is hands down the best scone I’ve ever had. I try to get a scone at every bakery I visit and nothing comes close to Crumby’s scones. It’s super buttery, crumbly, and not in the least bit dry. The smokiness of the jalapeños really comes through and adds SO much flavor, and the scone itself is baked until it’s a golden brown which leaves such a satisfying crispy bite at the end. Also the strawberry cupcake is phenomenal - you can definitely taste the freshness of the strawberry and I CANNOT stop eating these. Also don’t skip out on the frangipane mixed berry hand pie if you like almond! Literally explodes with almond flavor and the berry adds a great balance. Super cute bakery with some...

The BEST bakery in Houston. We’ve tried almost everything on the menu. It’s all delicious. Her cookies strike a perfect balance of gooey center and crispy edges. The almost croissant cookie is my personal favorite. The cupcakes and muffins are moist and pack a flavorful punch (try the lemon!). She uses Swiss meringue buttercream on all her cakes and cupcakes, so the frosting is silky and not too sweet. The bakery offers the same general things week to week but introduces new and fun items every so often. We have never ordered a custom cake, but they look absolutely flawless. It’s a cute place to take your kids or meet a friend for a cup of coffee. Highly recommend!

When I learned that The Crumby Bakeshop opened a store front, I knew this was going to be my new go-to spot. I bring my son here often, and there are always new treats to try. Our favorites are the strawberry cupcake, iced oatmeal cookie, and pandan and coconut cookie, but really, everything is great. I also love the iced caramel latte! I also did a custom cupcake order for my son's birthday party. I emailed back and forth with the owner my ideas, which was honestly just a random collection of pictures. She took that and created these cute spooky masterpieces. They were beautiful, delicious, and everyone loved them.
