The French Corner Catering — Restaurant in Houston

More times than not lunch meetings greeted me with a bevy of dry bread and bagged chips from The French Corner! For a minute there I thought this place was a box lunch spot with a whirlwind of Tuna Salad, Roast Beef and Ham sandwiches. That was OK though...if it was free it was for me.

Funny thing about the catering menu...although this place was called "The French Corner" there was not a section distinctly French/European in name. There was "Traditional American","Central/South American", and a lumped together "Tropical Island, Asian and Mediterranean" which is not a fusion section, promise.

It was not until I was in the Medical Center area looking for a place to eat that I saw the place. Figured why not? Perhaps my limited experiences with them made me pleasantly surprised. Apart from the usual sandwiches there was a great "Three Salad Lunch" special with 6 different types of salads to choose from. Moving on there were a number of entrees that are rotated out (Which I recognize as similar to the catering menu).

French Corner does put a lot of care into their ingredients. The flavor of the marinates, rubs and other sauces really shows that.

Favorite entrees thus far? They include:

Grilled Chicken with Wild Mushroom Sauce Salmon Pontchartrain Homemade Meatloaf Beef Brisket (I do realize there are better places but here its a safe bet)

Catering? They are really great. Box lunch sandwiches are really well portioned (though I would ask for extra condiments like mayo to moisten the bread). Sit down restaurant? They are fantastic, pleasant and competitively priced. The catering price is slightly inflated compared to the eating in menu (assumption being that this is to compensate for additional catering stuff).

Our company regularly orders catering from this restaurant for meetings. While their customer service is friendly and helpful, there are several recurring issues that make the experience frustrating. Menu Accuracy & Portions: The menu is not always accurate, and breakfast portions tend to be small. When ordering the Deluxe Hearty Continental Breakfast, be aware that the ratio of hot food to pastries is off—you’ll receive fewer hot items than expected. Additionally, some pastries arrive cut in half, which feels like an attempt to stretch portions rather than provide full servings. Pricing: Prices have increased, particularly due to the upcharge on eggs, so it’s something to keep in mind when budgeting for catering. Order Accuracy & Lack of Remedies: There is no clear resolution process when mistakes happen. A major issue occurred with the Caribbean Jerk Chicken. Since jerk chicken often contains bones, I called in advance to confirm if it was boneless. I was assured it would be, yet we received a pan full of bone-in chicken—an inconvenience for a working meeting. The restaurant stated they would update the menu back in November to clarify this, but it still has not been corrected.

While we appreciate the staff’s helpfulness and have continued using their services, it’s frustrating to spend so much money and not feel like we’re getting what we pay for. If the restaurant can address these issues—especially menu accuracy and portion sizes—it would greatly improve the...

After 45 minutes (no exaggeration) of waiting on two breakfast croissants, I had to just pay for the coffees and move on. I had an appointment. We thought two bours would be more than enough time to eat and get to the clinic. We, along with another table of 3, were the only ones waiting for food. The waitress was sweet and apologized. They were working on turkeys for a catering job (The cooks were getting to us we were told) Nice....but what about us, the ones in the restaurant-obviously, my measily few bucks did not matter. Here I sit, 2 hours later, at the clinic, because my doc was called out for an emergency (my luck this entire trip) hungry and now nauseated and with a headache. There was no time when we left to go elsewhere. Disappointed that we were treated this way. The waitress stated she hoped we would give them a try again. This was not my first time here. We chose THIS place out of several choices. I told her, thank you, unfortunately, I will never return. I did leave her tip as she did take care of our water/coffee. You could tell she was embarrassed. Otherwise, I cannot give a real true review on the food...just that we were not important to this place and they were comfortable leaving us...
