I've been going to this bar and grill since live music was their showcase up the road on Fuqua . I can remember seeing the national recording artist, Mark May and the Agitators in his earlier career, here on a monthly gig rotation, on the Time Out Stage, where it was the popular place in South Houston to catch him live! And then pulling up to Timeout, early on a Friday, to see Mark loading his own stage equipment; guitars and amps out of his minivan into the old live bar on Fuqua. Well time changes everything and here we are all in the world of personal electronic & digital entertainment i.e. smartphones and Pads, in our urban community recreation areas, for the sake of fun in H Town. That change was enough to send Mark May away packing, with his guitars, back to his native Ohio to make a living. His ponytail is gone too. He sports it shiny on top now for a sophisticated Blues, R and B approach to music as entertainment. I suppose. So what is the draw here at Time-Out 1? Besides the choice to become the modern day blue-collar Sportsbar in our community, Time-Out has expanded considerably as an All American Grill, as well as with their menu. A far cry from the old one pager menu they had in the 1990s. If I remember right, it was posted for the patrons to view, over a kitchen serving window. The Grill is the main draw for me now, other than spending an eve in there as Hurricane Harvey was rolling in. The draw to get out on the evening of 8/26/17 was the McGregor, MayWeather superfight which was cancelled by TimeOut, because of the poor weather conditions I believe. So We ended the night there, watching a Texans and Saints Preseason game. we did order a large 14" meat Pizza. It was a Thin Crust pizza by her choice, not the Hand Tossed one and was good enough I remember that my girlfriend commented excitedly to the server about how good it was. Back to my personal Lunch visit today, a year and some weeks later, after that stormy date night. I have found an appetite for the taste of their Two For Tuesday Wings, ($6.50 for Ten) usually, it is Ten for $10.50. The Buffalo Extra Hot sauce is the fire I need on my palette, with a cold draft beer in a pint glass for $2.00. Order it with the blue cheese dipping sauce. It has the crumbled blue cheese added in it for kick. I suggest at least 4 of those must have savory sauces for an order of twenty wings. You will also get the complimentary...
Read moreCame for some crawfish/margarita and since I was alone, I sat at the bar “like I always do” well today the waitress “Kelly S” came take my order. Minutes later, I see crawfish sitting in the lil window for at least 10/15mins so I asked her, can you please go see if that’s my crawfish ready. She went get it, and just put it in front of me, not one time did she asked if I needed anything else or if I needed another Margarita since the one I had was low but yet she was asking everyone next to me, including the men that was sitting at the table behind me if they needed anything…. She never asked me not onetime if I needed anything… fast forward, I asked one of the other girls if they had a manager on duty tonight and she said no. It was just workers, I replied so they don’t have anyone over yall tonight; she said no. She asked what happened and I told her, I told her that I wasn’t leaving a tip, Kelly replied “I already knew u wasn’t” little do she know is that I tip good for good service but since I didn’t get that. I didn’t leave her nothing ! She also said I was being rude, I said how cause I said I wasn’t leaving a tip… Kelly cashed me out and gave me the ticket and never came back so I got up and asked one of the other girls to check me out since I was ready and Kelly never came back. She gave my receipt to Kelly so I could pay…. But anyway. I love this place but the service I got tonight was horrible, been coming here for years and this the first time I’ve experienced this… This was also my first time seeing Kelly here, so she must be new or she don’t work...
Read moreSo yesterday, I was feeling adventurous and wanted to get a piercing so, of course, I needed some liquid courage. I headed to one of my spots but was invited to head over to the Timeout for their $1.99 crawfish. Now, I'm not usually a fan of crawfish (something about their beady little eyes staring at me), but in the spirit of being adventurous, I headed there and ordered a pound! The crawfish were tiny but well flavored and their garlic butter sauce was the best flavor enhancer.
Well, everything sounds perfect, so why the 3 stars, you ask? Well because although the servers/waitresses were friendly, their visits to our table were few and far in between. I waited about 30 minutes before getting up and placing my order at the bar. And then about 10 minutes later, my friend ordered his drinks at the bar.
Despite the service, I enjoyed my time here. It's a cool spot and I will probably return to further explore my newfound appreciation of...
