Yolox — Restaurant in Houston

Visited here on Friday: 10/18/2024 at 8:30pm, with my friend. I was the first one in the building and was greeted by the greeter who said one word to me before turning her attention to my friend and speaking entirely in Spanish. She essentially ignored me after this. The greeter was asking, (my friend), where we wanted to sit. I suggested a booth, since the bar had a small amount of room for food. After sitting for 10 minutes, we were still not waited on! We decided to go to the bar anyways, thinking we would be served faster. While at the bar, 3 men, were standing staring at us, with blank stares, not offering to assist or ask us how we were. My friend and I flagged one down and decided to order a mixed drink, (can’t remember the name) (Drink is BLUE). As soon as I took one sip I almost gagged! It tasted like burnt plastic! I told the bartender to return. My friend took a sip and stated the same. We both then ordered the NACHOS YOLOX - cost: $15.99. The food was decent. The chips tasted somewhat stale and the cheese was bland. As soon as I placed my order for a new drink and entree, the bartender asks if I want to close my tab. I was thinking; well, I don’t want to order any more drinks, so I said yes. He then shoves a receipt in my face which has the nacho order, new drink, as well as a bottle of water. I’m like looking at him like, I’m not paying until I get my food! Upon payment, I see they charged me a gratuity fee ($6) and another fee ($3) because I used a credit card!! WTF?! Total cost: double shot: Don Julio, Nachos, and 1 bottle water with all the fees added was like $52!!! As far as the atmosphere, I can say was honestly weird. Like the music does not match the venue and was so loud! Music playing was like all 90s: Everything from Grunge, light rock, pop, and techno. Not only that, there were two dudes at the stage randomly stringing a base and it was connected to the speaker making noise. Lastly, they charge you $5 to park in a crap gravel parking lot that might mess up your tires. Normally I enjoy hole in the wall Tex Mex, Mexican restaurants. This place was a big NO. I’ve always been a fan of looking up places on TikTok and then going there. Yolox popped up the first time for a taco Tuesday where they advertised $1 taco. Some friends came from Waller, Tx so we decided to go on a Tuesday, the place was dead so we were the only table there. The service was great because like I said we were the only table there so the guy was really attentive. I ordered 5 tacos al pastor having in mind that it was $1 taco Tuesday. Everyone got their food and it looked awesome and I got my tacos and they were the worst tacos I’ve seen in my life. The tortillas were small, barely had meat, and it tasted poorly. The worst part is that when I got my tab it was $19.00 for those tacos. When I asked he said they weren’t having that promo this night. I’m guessing because it was empty.

The second time I went there was for Despechadas night where they advertise $1 margaritas but what they don’t say on their advertisement is that it’s only until 10:00pm and only for women. The guy brought me one and said that he could offer me one for $1 but that anything after that would be regular price for me. He ended up telling me that they had $3 shots so we had some too. I was there for the food and the experience of that night so we ordered food and the food was great, we had flautas, parrillada, and chicken wings. I decided to invite 2 other friends so they came and I ordered 3 shots for us and the guy said that they were no longer $3 but I was like that’s fine. The same shot they sold me at $3 literary 30 minutes before my friends came they ended up charging it at $13 each. Ended up paying almost $50 for one single beer, and 3 shots.

Over all, atmosphere is cool, the service is cool, but their pricing is super shady. Not to mention that a lot of the things on the menu don’t have prices so that’s not right. I honestly won’t be returning, I’ve had enough with those 2 times that I went that I can get my money’s worth...

SCAMMERS! Found this place on TikTok the video and promotional material is just a bait! I am convinced that any good reviews these people have are from close family and friends.

When we arrived they were taking us to a seat towards the back one of my friends suggested why don’t we just sit at the bar, before we could even answer yes the bar tender was pulling up a chair and said very welcoming “y’all want to sit at the bar?” We of course said yes let’s do it!

We start ordering drinks, their video on TikTok said every Thursday $1 margaritas! Wow what a deal! He immediately said do you want a large or small? I said I’ll take a large I mean if your promo is $1 margaritas your large can’t be more then $10. Immediately after bringing our Margaritas and a whisky shot the “training” bartender asked for a card to open a tab…

CAVEAT EMPTOR

We stayed not even an hour we were just in for a quick drink an appetizer after a long flight so we asked for the bill. Mind you we had 3 Margaritas a whisky shot and a Queso with horrible chip tortillas! The check was $85

Margaritas $15.50 each! The large is regular Queso $6.99 ( worst queso and chips ever) Whisky $14

And they added a15% gratuity for sitting at the bar! Which they never mentioned!

Also they are very weird! They constantly record and have signs everywhere saying that once you enter their establishment you are subjected to being recorded and used on their promotional videos!

When they charged us my friend paid in cash the ridiculous amount for the trash we consumed. But then I get a notification on phone saying they charged my card $47!!!!

So not only did they charge $85 they also charged a holding fee of $47 forrrrr whaaat?

Worst place/people ever...
