I've been eating at this restaurant for so many years since the day it was open the owner of the restaurant is so extremely kind if you become a regular customer sometimes she would give you some free dessert the price is great not too expensive but I do know is one thing especially as a lady she does have two face she will be super friendly to you if you give her a lot of tips but if you give her a little bit or minimum wage she will not wait on you and give you a bad attitude I'm talking about meanness I seen the whole different side of her several times and I don't like to be waited like that we give them a lot of business since the day they been no answer but this one particular waitress is not too nice and rude :-(! But the owner is such a sweetheart she deserve all the business she can have she has a very very kind-hearted person very friendly to and she also work extremely hard where she shouldn't be it should be the waitresses because she pays them but she want to make sure the customers of extremely well taken care of:-)! But the Chinese food is very authentic and great price it's worth every penny of it :-)! I went there on Saturday before Mother's Day Full House there was not but one table left for us to sit I just know these two waitresses and one waiter was ignoring us constantly it took 45 minutes until the server take our orders it was very unnecessary to take that long one young lady was so angry and angry at the waiter I just know if the owner is not there they would take advantage of the whole situation not giving great service :-(! I am waiting for the moment to tell the owner about the situation when I get there in person I want to do it that day but the waitresses in waiter trying to block me from talking to her :-(! Even my parents love this place especially...
Read moreBefore my family moved to Houston, every time we came to Bellaire on the weekends for grocery runs, we'd stop by here for dinner. I have been a frequent customer at this restaurant for many years now. The decor and layout of the restaurant may have changed in the past few years, but the quality and taste of food still remains the same.
Food: There are many preset course meals depending on the number of people to choose from, but if you are considering one of these options, make sure that the "Special Tofu" is on that list. The Special Tofu here has a unique texture that pairs perfectly with rice. The Peking Duck comes in two portions, the typical white bun & duck meat as well as a sauteed dish from the leftover bones. If you decide to dine during lunch, Yuen Ten has an amazing Lunch menu with plenty of affordable options (roughly $5 per dish) that I believe doesn't end until 3PM. My favorite options on the lunch menu that I always order include: Fried Eggplant w/ shrimp inside, Salt&Pepper fried fish, S&P pork chops, and Sauteed green beans w/ minced meat. Usually a bowl of complimentary hot broth soup is served per table after ordering, perfect for warming up on a chilly day.
Service: The waitresses have not changed from all these years, but all are friendly and attentive to your needs. After ordering, food generally comes out fresh from the kitchen within a short amount of time so you don't have to wait forever for your food.
Overall, great restaurant to take the family or friends for quality Chinese food. Prices are not unreasonable and they take most widely accepted credit cards, which is a plus compared to most Chinatown restaurants that...
Read moreI don’t really do reviews, but I am always one to critique places I’ve been to to my friends. For the past year, I’ve done more exploring across Houston for food, and I’ve spent my entire life in Bellaire eating. Honestly, food is a big part of my life, and this restaurant is at the heart of it all.
For over 2 decades, my family had went to Yuan Ten and made memories with each generation from young to old. For me, I’ve seen this restaurant flourish for about 20 years of its nearly 40 years. In spite of some of the best food I’ve had in Houston with other restaurants that are definitely nicer on the interior or nicer in food quality, Yuan Ten still remains my favorite. It can be called nostalgia, it can be called bias, but, to me, it is the best restaurant I’ve ever been in. I’ve known the waiting staff since I was a child; I’ve known the kitchen staff since I was a child; and I’ve known the owners since I was a child, and every day they would give their best to make sure everyone is comfortable, fed, and happy in their restaurant. It’s family friendly, affordable, and homely when you come in.
At the beginning, I said I don’t really do reviews. However, seeing this restaurant appearing to be in decline in recent years and in popularity, I want to try to rekindle that interest here. I really want to help put this back onto most people’s radars and inspire others to help kindle their own Yuan Ten’s. Small, family owned restaurants you could call a home for your stomachs and inspire a sense of family and community. My family loves this place. I love this place. And I hope you love this...
