I stopped for lunch at D'Agnese's Tomato Grill, an Italian restaurant, on First Street in Hudson, Ohio. The restaurant is located on the west side of First Street just west of Darrow Road (aka Main Street). There is limited free on-street parking on First Street. However, there is a free two level public parking garage located immediately behind the stores on the east side of First Street. I parked on the upper level. There are stairs on either end down to street level. I used the public elevator in the middle of the east side of the upper level - located in the block of stores on the west side of First Street - to get down to Street level. The Tomato Grill is a white table cloth with cloth napkins restaurant where you can make reservations on OpenTable. The quality of the food and service is outstanding at a reasonable price point for fine dining. The lunch crowd is dressed casually. A host/hostess greets you and sees you to your table. My waiter, Christopher, is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He provided freshly grated Parmigiano cheese and crushed black pepper to your taste requirements when he serves the meal. He does not hover but frequently checks with you in a timely fashion to ensure you are enjoying your meal or if you need a refill on your beverage. The atmosphere of the restaurant is modern and crisp. The street facing wall consists of large windows allowing plenty of sunlight into the dining area. The food is excellant with a great depth of flavor. The lunch portions are just right. Your appetite is satisfied and you won't go back to work needing a nap - the portions are just right. I truly enjoyed my lunch. I started with a cup of their monthly soup selection, Cheddar Broccoli. YUMMY! The soup came with a bread basket of sliced Italian bread. I had unsweetened ice tea with my meal. My lunch entree, ordered off their regular menu, is the Veal D'Agnese's with a complementary side of your choice of a pasta. I selected Cappellini (aka Angel Hair pasta). The Veal, several pieces, and an Artichoke are lightly breaded with the restaurant's signature Lemon Sauce. I opted to have the Lemon Sauce on my side of Cappellini too. WOW, the entree was delicious. The Lemon Sauce is light and refreshing and not sharp and overpowering. The Artichoke is prepared perfectly with a great depth of flavor to perfectly compliment the Veal. A great tasting lunch! They have a great dessert selection. I passed but will definitely have dessert when I return for dinner with my wife. Almost every table has hand sanitizer available. The staff do not wear face masks in late March 2022. Most patrons, also, did not come in wearing face masks. The staff immediately clear the table after each meal and place a sheet of crisp white paper to cover the white linen table cloth and put down new place settings. The restaurant and the Men's room are kept clean. When you walk in the entrance, there is a bar with seating at the bar and two tables between the bar and the street facing window and a row of two person high top tables across from the bar immediately to your left. To the right of the host/hostess station are many tables for diners. You will enjoy your lunch or dinner at Tomato Grill. A great place to have a date...
Read moreWe had a 6:30 reservation for three at The Tomato Grill (my wife, our baby in a stroller, and myself). I even added a note in the reservation about the stroller to give them a heads-up. When we arrived on time, we were told there was no table available and that it would be about a 20-minute wait. During that wait, we noticed our reservation had somehow been trimmed down to two people.
After about 40 minutes total, we were offered a high-top table right in the main walkway by the bar, restrooms, and kitchen — not exactly stroller-friendly. We declined, and were told they didn’t know when another table would be ready. We were finally seated around 7:10.
My wife spoke with the manager to calmly explain the situation, but the manager was dismissive and condescending. Instead of listening, she talked over my wife, said they were “busy,” and walked away mid-conversation. We understand being busy, but the entire point of a reservation is to have a table ready at the time reserved.
Once seated, we discovered how much they nickel and dime you. My chicken parmesan was $20 — and they wanted an extra $5.50 for pasta to go with it. My wife switched her pasta type and was charged $1 extra. The $9 side salad tasted like bagged lettuce, and they would’ve charged another $1.50 just to split it.
We originally planned to order drinks, an appetizer, and dessert, but by that point, the experience had soured the evening. The server was kind and not at fault, but everything else was a disappointment. We won’t...
Read moreI will never go to Tomato Grill again! I called this afternoon to make a reservation for 8 people at 7pm-3 adults and 5 kids, I informed the young lady there were kids in our party! The hostess told me they could accommodate us and I even got a text to confirm! When I showed up and gave my name, they told me they had no available table for 8, they had a high top for 6, which is not ideal for 8 people with little kids! The manager and hostess both acted like they never received my phone call, and had no clue who took the call! I left dumbfounded, and then came back in to show the text confirmation I had received! I happened to glance at the computer that was facing me and saw my name, with my party number, and 7pm!!! They lied to my face! I asked to speak to the manager, she basically told me I made the hostess cry and would not let me talk! I told her to please just listen to me, since I’m the customer, my voice was calm and understanding! She told me to not speak to her that way and walked away! Absolute disgrace, worst customer service ever! I’ve been a waitress and bar tender and I understand how hard it is, especially now, but don’t lie to face and then walk away! She should’ve tried to make it right! So I will never be back and I will be informing all my friends to not go because of...
