Porta Rossa — Restaurant in Hudson

My wife and I, first time there for a 4:30 PM reservation. The good: seated very quickly even though there were hardly anyone there. I had the lamb pasta, my wife had a steak. Both were very, very good. Food came out fairly quickly once we ordered. It was hot and well seasoned. Portions were good and we both took some home. Really no significant complaints here, for a higher end restaurant.

The Bad: after we were seated, our waitress didn't come to our table for almost 10 minutes. We asked for water and a cocktail for each of us. Another 10 minutes went by and we received our cocktails, but still no water. Another few minutes and finally got water. Keep in mind there were hardly anyone in the restaurant at this point. We actually considered leaving and going to somewhere else. This is absolutely unacceptable. We should have had water the moment we sat down. To add, the waitress seemed indifferent towards us, as if we were poor (which we are), but still no excuse. As we were finishing our meal, another couple sat in the table next to us, and our waitress came almost immediately and sat next to them like they were all best friends. Clearly the waitress passed judgement on us for whatever reason.

Will we go back, likely not. We get way better service at Downtown 140 and the food is just as good, if not better. As they say, first impressions...

This is the second time we have visited this wonderful restaurant and we must say that the food each time was prepared to perfection!! ...and the service provided by Jimmy D was superb ...we started out with a wonderful Apple and Spice Coctail ...on to the delicious soup of the day and salad and then, on to the glorious Lamb Rack and PERFECT Veal Parm with the perfectly enhanced Foraccia with Whipped Ricotta, Honey and Olive Tapenade ...finishing with a simply wonderful Bombolini and French Press Coffee! ...YUMMMM... ...Wow!!! ...everything was simply glorious ...and we were even complimented by the restaurant with the incredible dessert for Barbie's birthday! The ONLY negative was the incredible noise level in the relatively full restaurant that took away much of the ambience we were seeking. Our constructive suggestion is that much more sound deadening material needs to be installed to permit a more serene dining experience. All in all ...a truly WONDERFUL dining adventure! ...thank you! ...we will be returning soon! ...

Porta Rossa is another charming culinary touch to Hudson’s already stellar line up of restaurants. The vibe is high end and intimate, and the food is flavorful and delicious. I went with girlfriends not too long after they opened and everything was lovely, start to finish. The focaccia bread and chopped salad are must have starters. Most recently, we had to cancel our anniversary dinner reservations, and totally understood that they didn’t really do take out. However, the very sweet hostess called us back and said her manager would love to accomadate us given our disappointing predicament. I had the vegetable lasange, we shared some gnocchi and my husband had the ribeye. Five stars for service and food! I can’t wait to...
