House of Taipei — Restaurant in Huntersville

We have occasionally eaten here over the last 10 years because it was convenient to our church, but we always leave with the same impression. The food & service are ok, however, some of the staff are not that friendly and rush you through your meal. Unfortunately, it's just what we have come to expect when dining there, but again, it is a convenient place for our whole family to meet for a meal.

However, we went there for Mother's Day lunch after church (5/11/25) and it was the final straw. A very sweet lady took our order. She was very kind and friendly. A different lady (who I believe is the "manager") delivered the food and she was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! She came to the table and called out the order. We had two people that ordered similar dishes, and we were trying to figure out who had what, when she huffed really loud and threw our dishes down on the table and walked away shaking her head. When she returned with the rest of the order, I told her they had one of our dishes wrong, we ordered white rice, they brought out fried rice. She yelled at me with a loud & hateful tone "That is why I asked you what you wanted, that is why I took the time to ask you and make sure it was right." I didn't even get to respond before she walked away, yelling in her native Chinese language. My entire party was stunned at her behavior because she was NOT the one that took our order. Another person took the order, so what she was saying was not even true!

I will NEVER return to this restaurant again. I am sick of their rude behavior!! This same "manager" was constantly screaming at the staff on Christmas Eve when we visited. She is absolutely the worst "manager" I have ever encountered. Several of the reviews state they have new management, but I'm not sure that is correct, because it's all the same people that have been there for years and years.

She is not only hateful & disrespectful to her customers, but also to the staff. They way she speaks to them is horrible and so degrading. When she screams at them in front of customers, they don't do or say anything, they just stand there and take it. I honestly do not know how people work there with her in charge. I always try to order from House of Taipei when I am nearby, because they give an excellent amount of delicious food with a very reasonable price. I like them more than PF Chang's, which is good but very overrated.

Something to note about this place is that they are very quick to serve, which also means they will be very quick to get you out the door. I personally like how quick they are, but I know people who like to sit down and feel rushed by this. Even so, I would recommend you try at least as a takeout option.

My go to choice is the sesame tofu, but about a week ago I went with my girlfriend and we both had a crab rangoon appetizer and she ordered the Peking Duck while I had their "four happiness. Rice comes on the side.

The crab rangoons were fresh, crispy, and delicious.

The duck was perfectly cooked with the right amount of crispy fat, and it came with a kind of thin green scallions, dark oyster sauce I think, and the thin chinese pancakes that you wrap it up into to eat like a burrito.

The Four Happiness was a meat combination plate that included beef, chicken, shrimp, and a fourth meat that I assume is lobster- I hadn't really thought to ask and I don't eat it enough to know, but I'm not picky so it was a good experience with a full plate. They use large shrimps and I believe they have fair portions of all the meats, so accurately named is the four happiness.

I'm not a person that has ever written a bad review for any business only good ones. And I believe a person should be accountable for their review to make it real. I feel a business should always be able to respond to any review and I welcome that with this review. Because of the way our group was talked to by our server I'm going to write my first 1 star review. Because I don't think any customer should lose their hard earned money and time in a business that doesn't care about their customers. The server was very rude from the very beginning. The server was so rude after he returned with our drinks we made the decision as a group of 4 to leave and eat somewhere else. I have eaten at this restaurant lots of time in the past and it's a hour plus drive from our house because the food has always been great. When I first started eating here 8 years ago they were so busy you could hardly get in the door. But I have wondered why in the last few times I have been why there business has been so slow. It now seems to me even with good food if your service falls to a very unprofessional and rude level. Even with good food people will not return if the service is poor, I know our group will never be back.
