Waffle House — Restaurant in Huntersville

This is the dirtiest Waffle House ever!!! Their improper sanitary conditions can get patrons sick. I don’t know about other shifts, but this crew was bad. My family and I were driving through states after vaca and decided to stop and get the kids waffles. We went in around 11:30am. They were a bit busy and the restaurant was pretty dirty, but I let it slide cus I thought the waiter would clean up properly after the last customers left so we can sit. There were food under tables and spilled beverage on the floor. Our waiter cleared the tables and wiped it down with a wet towel she took from the kitchen area that was just sitting there. She hardly wiped the tables and then literally threw the towel back to the same area. Later she took the same exact towel and wiped another table without washing or disinfecting it. I was a bit grossed out while we waited for her to finish. I thought she would at least wipe down the chairs and clean up the food that fell on the floor but she didn’t. She called us over and we had to step over the spilled beverage and sit with food below our feet. This franchise should at least have a standard cleaning protocol for staff to follow. Our tables were still sticky and I had to clean it with my own personal wipes. After we ordered our food, I started to look around and to my disgust, you would not believe how dirty the kitchen was. There were food and garbage all over the floor, and dirty counter and stove tops. They just trampled over it back and forth without bothering to pick up or wipe down. There were at least 6 staff members, so no excuse for the dirty conditions. The staff was having their own personal conversations, talking and laughing out loudly over food and drinks in their hands without face coverings. Our waiter even brought us syrup in the filthiest half filled syrup jug, with syrup running down the sides and dirty handles. New customers were seated on the table ahead of us and that spilled drink never mopped up. The bathroom is another subject of concern. Nasty and smelly!!! Our waiter was irritated because we requested to sit in her section. We were a party of 10 and there were more tables available on the right but obviously had to be cleared and cleaned. She refused us and they tried repeatedly to put us on 2 smaller tables that seat 8 and told us to pull up 2 additional chairs but I explained it would be too tight for all of us cus I knew all our plates and glasses would never fit. There was no good aspect of this experience. The eggs I ordered you were not cooked correctly. Over medium by definition means no running White. I also asked to add cheese on the eggs and the eggs were so undercooked if the cheese could actually be picked up off of the eggs. The bacon was burnt and was left on the counter underneath an air vent for solid 10 minutes while the eggs and hash browns cooked. I watched the waitress take her bare hand and unflip a waffle that folded over on itself and then handed to one of my children to eat. This is the same waitress that had not washed her hands in 30 minutes and was handling cash and other customers plats. Cook station was not organized and both grills were disgusting. I was handed the check at the end of the meal waited for about 8 to 10 minutes and then paid the bill. After waiting another 5 minutes or so while my son ate the last of his breakfast the waitress came over and asked me what was wrong with the food. To which I explained it was the worst experience at a waffle House I have ever had. She asked me why I did not inform her earlier and it took every fiber of my being to not tell her maybe if she would have checked on the customers we would have been able to but she was too busy engaged in conversations with her co-workers which was obviously more important. Oh and sitting at the counter the vent above us dripped on us the entire meal. They even had a table closed because one of the vents was dripping on a table. Hopefully some proper coaching will help ensure future visits my other patrons will go smoother than our exper ience. We stopped there one morning on the 29th of December after filling up for gas. We were hungry and had a long drive still ahead of us. We went to use the restrooms and get some food. There were a few customers sitting inside waiting for something, and we went to use the restrooms. There was a sign saying "Out Of Papertowel" near the restrooms. The restrooms weren't the cleanest, but they had toilet tissue.

We went to place our orders and noticed we were the only ones wearing masks. We were still hungry and as we had all gotten vaccinated, we figured it wouldn't hurt to take the risk. We went to order and were informed that they were leaving and we would have to wait for the next shift to come and they were late, but they didn't know when the next shift would arrive. It could be 5 minutes and it could be 30 or an hour. When those workers left, the customers who had been sitting at a table got up and left too. It looked like only 1 worker remained as he watched the rest leave. I'm not sure if others were in the back. We obviously left too and just waited until 11am to go to McDonalds or Wendy's as it was just another 30-40 minutes until then anyway. I can't say anything about the food or the service because we weren't served. I don't know if a less hungry me would have even taken the risk and had a meal there anyway. Judging from the bathrooms, I can't say the place was all that clean anyway. We were just so hungry and were looking for anything that served something...
