Let's break bread. Especially if it's cinnamon raisin!

Free birthday month sweet treat for Loyalty Rewards members
Arriving early at Zankou Chicken next door, I found Zankou's wifi is password-protected. Seeing Boudin SF's wifi is public (with email), I connected & noticed their Loyalty Rewards program. Members receive credit for a free loaf of bread every month & a free sweet treat during their birthday month. Unfortunately being a week after my birthday, the free sweet treat will have to wait till next year. However, of course I'd happily take a free loaf of bread!
Cinnamon raisin bead- Enriched wheat flour, malted barley flour, water, raisins, sugar, butter, yeast, cinnamon, salt, ascorbic acid. Simple, natural, baked fresh everyday - that's what I look for. Nowhere near the ridiculous amount of ingredients in Wonder bread. The bread was sweet, thick & delicious, by itself or with a slathering of cream cheese.
Service was good. Being the first customer, I was virtually in & out. Ample seating, with al fresco tables available. Boudin SF is located at the Five Point Center, on the left of Zankou & across from Panda Express.
Something special always comes out of the ovens at Boudin SF. Their baked fresh everyday bread, made natural in the traditional way, is worthy of cheating on your daily carb count. The perk of having a free monthly loaf is a fantastic enticement for me to make repeat visits, if I happen to be around. I look forward to exploring their lunch & dinner entrees, in addition to more of their...
Read moreI tried the Boudin bakery on Huntington Beach. It was worth the three hour round trip (to be honest, the trip WOULD have been only two hours had not Google Maps sent me all round Robin Hood's barn to get there from Marina del Rey).
I just went for the baked goods -- I picked up two of the twelve back sourdough dinner rolls and one 1.5 pound sourdough round -- and so far, the rolls are ALMOST as good as the Boudin Bakery products in the San Francido Bay area (they were a bit drier and chewier -- still very good, but there was a bit of room for improvement in the batch that I got.
This SLIGHT (and it is SLIGHT) difference between what I know Boudin has done up North, and what I tasted in the first batch of rolls, is the ONLY reason I did not rate them as a 5 for food. The SoCal bakery still warrants many repeat visits (even a three hour round trip is to be preferred to a seven hour one-way trip to San Francisco).
I'll be back for more when thus purchase is eaten. But it will be a while before my hunger for sourdough overcomes my reluctance to spend multiple hours driving SoCal freeways (this is NOT a criticism of Boudin). Say, 1 - 2 weeks.
I will be back...
And I've been back, and a bit of advice--get there as close to opening as you an if you're there for the bakery. The best...
Read moreI work down the street from here and come here often for take out for myself and my coworkers. On Thursday, June 8th, I tried to phone in an order numerous times with no answer. I walked into this establishment at 4:30ish and the place was empty. Literally NO ONE in there. I explained to the lady in front that I tried calling and even showed her that their phones were not working, to no reaction whatsoever from her. Ordered my food and sat and waited. No attempt to look at the phones during that time was made by any staff. I never received a thank you for your order during my whole time there, I actually received the complete opposite; an unfriendly individual that clearly disliked her job and was unbothered that phones were down and the place was empty. When I asked to speak to the manager, she said that was her. I am even more blown way, that the poor service and ungrateful demeanor came from a manager. Congratulations on allliating myself and my coworkers from ordering from your...
