Avoid the back tables! I’m from out of town and wanted to treat my mom and sisters to a nice sushi meal. We made reservations for 6:30pm and when we arrived only half the restaurant was occupied. The host was very adamant that we sit in the back; at the last table right next to the bathroom and kitchen! I felt that since I had a baby with us; they wanted us far away although I have a very well behaved child. I didn’t appreciate the excuses the host made about how all the tables up front were booked and pointed at one of the tables saying that there was a party of 6 coming. I don’t think he realized the last table was set for 6 so that didn’t make sense. The food and service are both good but they should have told us over the phone when we made reservations that the back tables were the only ones available. It seemed like everyone else knew and didn’t want the back tables near the kitchen and bathroom neither since you’re sat in a narrow hallway facing two walls with bright white light glaring from the kitchen door nearby; all the while everyone is parading past your table and even accidentally kicking your chairs when passing by. This restaurant offers a nice meal but you’re not able to enjoy it when squeezed in the back hallway. So it’s inhospitable and quite greedy of them to even have tables all the way in the back and I’m writing this review so that you don’t get shafted by sitting at the...
Read moreHashigo Sushi is a little spot tucked into the corner of the Big 5 parking lot. Despite many years of living in the area and visiting the shopping mall I had no clue it was here until other locals mentioned this spot, so keep your eyes peeled so as to not miss the spot. It's definitely a local spot that is a great kept secret!
The atmosphere was a little packed in which was surprising since COVID regulations were not observed at all but that made the visit a little nicer since we weren't bothered about wearing a mask during our visit. We sat at the bar to get a full feel of the chef's specials and environment but next time I will definitely be considering the patio as a romantic option and to avoid the crowd.
The drink options were as expected with the standard variety of beers and sake found at most sushi or Japanese restaurants. We went with the green tea which was surprisingly made from powder but very tasty! For the food options we tried a few of the daily specials and went with some of the classics we always liked. Everything was tasty and flavorful and the best part was the chef telling us the standard ways to eat each item. My favorite must have been the one with gold and caviar for it was aesthetically pleasing and bursting with flavor that was not just fishy!!
Definitely a great experience and I will...
Read moreThis was the first time my husband and I came here. This is a Korean owned Japanese restaurant located on Main Street in the 5 Points plaza with plenty of parking. Here's an overview of our experience:
Ambiance 3/5: Well decorated and modern looking but had an awkward seating arrangement. Didn't feel private enough and tabels seemed too close together. This is most likely due to the weird layout of the restaurant.
Service 2/5: The waitress didn't seem friendly at all. Made me feel uncomfortable. A little slow for not too many people in the restaurant. No water refill :(. Whenever a restaurant has higher prices, customers will expect excellent service.
Food - Rolls 3/5: Pretty overpriced for what we got. The 2 rolls were nothing special, small and a bit mediocre in taste. The Dragon Roll had too much eel sauce making the overall taste too sweet. The Crunchy Roll had way too much Tempura Flakes, seemed kind of unnecessary. I did however like the presentation.
Food - Sushi 5/5: Probably the most impressive thing about our experience. The sushi was fresh, butter soft and not stringy! Loved how they added wasabi on top...
